The Clash of the Generation: Batman vs. Superman! Who Would Win?

For decades and decades, comic book fans from across the globe have been debating who would win in an all-out brawl between the two heroes: Batman vs. Superman! Could this editorial introduce this argument to it's conclusion? Read on to find out!

Batman and Superman have to be the two of the most iconic comic book characters alongside with some of the Marvel characters. Batman and Superman for many years have been the building blocks for DC Comics ever since the two comics known as Action Comics #1 and Detective Comics #27 hit the shelves in the late 1930s, with the Caped Crusader debuting after the Man of Steel. The two have been the best team-up (sorry, Robin) in comics since peanut butter and jelly. These two characters also show trust towards one another, even exchanging their weaknesses with one another. But this article isn’t about sharing or any other Secret Santa exchange, it’s about who would win a brawl between the greatest icons of the DC Comics mythology: Batman vs. Superman.

This argument has been argued for over decades of who would win a fight between the two. Throughout the span of comics, Batman and Superman have clashed in comics such as Superman: Red Son and The Dark Knight Falls. When taking a look at our fighters, they both have different techniques. Batman is more of a tactician alongside the foundation of gadgets, while Superman is all brawl and might. Batman is a human, Superman is a Kryptonian, yet the two still stand a close-match against each other… at least that’s what it seems like. Let’s go a bit in depth with this battle.

Superman is a very kind-hearted fellow, which is a vital disadvantage when fighting against opponents because of his strong sense of morality and ethics for all living things, except for robots or drones. Batman on the other hand will keep kicking the shit out of you and will stop at nothing until you’re down, but not dead. So they’re both not fans of killing others, fine with me. They both have their principles, and they both have their advantages and disadvantages, but between a fight against Superman and Batman, the hungriest fighter would be Superman.

Now you’re probably wondering how the hell Superman would beat Batman, since in Superman: Red Son, Batman nearly defeated him and in The Dark Knight Falls, Batman DID defeat him. But when examining over the DC Comics mythology, Superman actually would win in a fight between Batman, not only basing it off of prior knowledge, but off of the knowledge of comics.
You’re also wondering how Batman would lose against a fight to Superman, if Batman has a ring of kryptonite. That ring Superman gave him probably has the littlest piece of kryptonite, and that would never stand a chance against Superman. Many of you are forgetting Superman is one of the most over-powered comic characters in history. Superman is basically used to fighting villains wielding kryptonite. Superman has fought Lex Luthor, Metallo, Kryptonite Man, and Titano, a giant gorilla with kryptonite vision for Christ’s sake! If the majority of these guys are super-powered beings, what makes you think Superman cannot take down Batman?

Many of you are also forgetting your sense of logic towards the situation. Many of you think Kryptonite is as common as the coal Santa puts in the stockings of bad children. Kryptonite is a rare substance and can barely even be found, that’s why Batman has such small amounts of it. Many of you think Batman has tons of Kryptonite, he doesn’t. Even in The Dark Knight Falls, Batman had a scarce amount of Kryptonite to use on Superman and he used with by forging a Kryptonite arrow. A Kryptonite arrow wouldn’t take out Superman; you’d know that if you were to see all the crap Superman has gone through in comics.

Superman has freaking flown through a Red Sun, surrounded by millions of Kryptonite, has survived a volcanic eruption, and has heated the entire Earth with his heat vision. If Batman were to take out a Kryptonite ring, Superman would most likely step away as far as he can, used his microscopic vision to see from far distances, and would’ve zapped the ring with his heat vision. Batman has had his back broken by Bane, a human with venom. What makes you think Batman will not get devastated by Superman?

editorial worth reading but it's a bit miscalculated, being batman is in a superior standing if he was to take the fight to an unknowing superman it's basically over...however...if superman wasn't playing around bats would be a skeleton, so that's why the question has never been answered, there's no clear winner in the first place....but most likely it'd come down to who wants it more (batman)

Batman refuses to kill, Superman will not kill again(Zod), as BRICK stated above 'it'd come down to who wants it more'.

Why is this a debate? There are thousands of ways Superman could kill Batman without breaking a sweat. There is only one way Batman could hurt Superman. This is no contest unless writers promote Batman to be more than just a mortal.

Batman can hold him back for a while with red sun rays, and he is a master tactician, so he will play on Clark's kindness, but in the end, Batman loses to the all powerful being.

The only advantage Batman has over Superman is that Superman will hold back. Batman is willing to hurt Superman but Superman will not hurt Bats. If Superman were under mind control, Batman would get wrecked.

Well, its obvious that if Superman wanted to kill Batman, he would do just that but Batman won't go down without a fight. But the thing is, Superman wont kill him and Batman knows this so he will use this to his advantage.

Basically, Superman could kill Batman but Batman could defeat Superman.

I give it to Supes BUT it won't be the walk in the park that most ppl think. Batman is a cerebral strategist; far too intelligent to be anybody's light work. If Clark underestimates the Detective he will lose.

Hell, i still remember that DCAU movie (forgive my 420 memory( where Bats had all of the JL members weaknesses for a contingency plan in case they turned to the dark side. He is not for play...

If they make a clear winner there going be fan backlash no matter what happen. Batman fans be anger if sup wins sups fans be anger if batman wins. I think studio going force batman to win because he more popular hero at moment. superman seem logical choice win but I just want to see a fun movie.

Who's saying Superman in all his battles never learned how to be a tactical. batman in no way is going against a novice. We play Supes like he doesn't know how to fight to give Batman an edge. It's a pretty dumb argument. Let's take Superman on his worst day and Bats on his Best, who would win? That just dumb. Let's take Superman and Batman at their best because that's how we like to see our heroes. Play it out that way Superman wins.

no one would win. neither want to kill. if they did, and bats had kryptonite, he would be dead before he could reveal that he had it. this debate is friggin retarded.

in fact the ONLY way you make JL or batman/superman interesting is always by incapacitating superman first, and have the rest of the group/batman save him. So sadly in a JL movie, superman will most likely be out of the fight most of the film.

The idea that you have to very different characters with very different ways of approaching superheroics, yet they are still the best of friends is something that puts their friendship above all else.

Superman should win but Batman is on another level in the mind. Usually that's where it counts Batman by a little. Supes brash alone would get him far but Bats would have something ready for everything Supes brings to the table.

There is no argument. Superman wins every time.

The only way Batman can win is if Superman doesn't know he's coming and the only way that can happen is if Superman doesn't know that Batman even exists.

So before Bruce Wayne ever puts on the cowl and cape, he discovers that Superman is Clark Kent. He invites Clark to interview him, spikes his drink with dormant nanites and leaves them in his system. Then 20 years later when Batman has to fight Superman, he activates the nanites which do what red sun radiation and kryptonite does and starts absorbing the yellow sun energy in his cells before poisoning them. Superman falls down dead. Batman wins.

A scenario like that is the only chance Batman has. Superman has super hearing and super vision which means that Batman can never sneak up on Superman. In the fight in Dark Knight Returns, you have to conveniently forget all the things that Superman can do. In truth, Superman would know that Green Arrow is in Crime Alley with a kryptonite arrow because Superman is a smart guy. He'd have scanned the whole area beforehand.

In the unlikely scenario that Batman does manage to get close enough to use kryptonite, Superman is faster than a speeding bullet. He could get out of range of the kryptonite in an instant, well before the evil green rock has a chance to take effect. Heck, Superman doesn't even have to face Batman. He can just pick him off from the air with heat vision if he wants to.

In a fight, Superman wins.
