When rumours surfaced in February 2010 that Christopher Nolan would be "Godfathering" the Superman franchise, a lot of people said that the reports were ludicrous. Holla, 1 week later and it is confirmed and he openly spoke about how it came to pass. Fans world-wide rejoiced with a massive grin on their face for weeks on end, I still wear my grin to this day and have hissy fits about how AWESOME it will be. But are we missing the point here?

Chris Nolan is "Godfather", not director. A lot of news sites believe he will direct which is wrong, he is the Exec. Producer along with his wife, Emma Thomas. Good friend David S. Goyer wrote the story along with Chris and his brother Jonathan Nolan will write the screenplay. This all sounds very rosey. But who will direct? The release date is heavily rumoured to be December 21, 2012. (Coincidentally the day the world will end) So with just over a 2 and a half years to get the script ready, get the actors and get a director, it seems a bit rushed. Well it would be because of the legal battle of Warners struggling to keep hold of the franchise. So... who will direct the action flick and would they want to be Chris Nolan's goat puppy, doing as they are told or will they want to break away from his stewardship and do the film how they want? Only Time will tell. Lets vote for who we want as the next director. Previously, James McTiegue was linked with the Director's chair when the reboot was first announced in August 2008 and he did a few interviews on the matter. Then when Chris Nolan was announced as Exec. Producer, a lot of stories surfaced that it was because his younger brother and Scripting Super-Hero Jonathan Nolan would be taking his Directing Duck with "The Man of Steel". Who do you want as Director?

I'm not worried. As long as it's a crossover movie I'm sure I'll love it--even if it's worse than Superman Returns or the Quest for Peace.

There should be a "none of the above" category in that poll. Mind you, I don't really have any choices to offer up myself, I just don't like any of those directors for Superman. They should let me direct it. I probably know more about Superman than all of those guys put together. Or better yet, the execs at WB should administer a Superman trivia test to all of those guys and whoever gets the highest score gets the job.

@Tea: I thought that Nolan changed his mind from "no crossover" to "maybe a crossover." Plus with the Green Lantern coming out with that Dr. Nick Furry woman, DC is kinda looking to replicate Marvel's plans. Right?

Zach Snyder or JJ Abrahams...if you combine Zach Snyder's penchant for visuals and fight choreography or Abrahams talent for exposition coupled with his use of physical and cgi special effects with Goyer's writing, either one could be a good choice for a well balanced Superman...Matthew Vaughn would be good too, but he's better used for ensemble casts...he'd be good for a JLA or other group movie...

and for all that's holy do NOT...I repeat do NOT let Bay, Burton, or McG within 1000 MILES of anything Superman related...Bay will make Lois and Lana sluts, Burton will cast Cage as Superman, and McG will freeze-frame everything...

Superman will once more establish dominance and destroy Marvel. I cannot wait for Batman 3 and Green Lantern!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

@Matches
...problem is, that the execs at Warner's don't know shit about Superman either...that's why we've been getting shit movies...with the Reeve movies, it's been documented that they almost butt raped the franchise by screwing Donner at every corner...then there was Superman 3 and 4...now they're just handing over the reigns to people like Singer who say "this is how it should be"...hell, I love Nolan, but it's the same with him...he said "I have a vision...this is how Batman should be", and the execs went "Uh Huh, here's a couple mil (with glazed looks and drooling mouths). The reason Marvel is kicking ass is because the execs ARE Marvel...they'll give the reins to directors, but they know when to pull them back and when to let the creative juices flow (ala Favreau, Leterrier, and Branagh who all kept (or will keep) to the mythos, but bring their own creative tendencies to the table...

I'm not worried about this at all. Since SuperMan Returns, the franchise needs a little fixing.

So, what are your reasons we should be panicking? The fact that there isn't a director yet for a movie that is well over 2 years away is nothing to panic over. I think a lot of other director's names will come up over the rest of this year.

You sure do love doing polls Nicholsy!

@Matches - knowing everything Superman should not be the only prerequisite for directing the Man of Steel. But it helps ...

@Angelus - hahahahaha!!!! You sound like some of my friends who are hard core DC fans. You can't stand how Marvel has their shit together and it leaves that bitter taste in your mouth huh? I don't get it. I love both companies and though I tend to like Marvel comics and more recently their movies, I want them both to succeed and I really hope Green Lantern and all future DC movies are great, so that they can take a page out of what Marvel has been doing and finally give us our JLA movie! Btw, Marvel called, and they told me to tell you SUCK IT!!!!

@Faust1973 - I agree with every single thing you just said and would like to know if you would be interested in directing the next Superman movie.

p.s. I vote for JJ Abrahams, but Zach Snyder would be my 2nd choice.

Last time I heard Nolan's Batman is the only hero within that world. As he will decide with the same as Superman the only hero withn that world. He never showed any interest with crossover's showing any superheroe's clashing with his ideas. Green Lantern was franchise was more optimistis about visiting other hero's mythos.
[frick] Nolan! He has bored me.

There probably waiting on that date so the world ends so they won't have to pony up the Superman movie so everybody wins.

The director that I would LOVE to helm the Superman Franchise is Ridley Scott...He's proven he can do other worlds, other eras, action, AND drama...I think he's the best director out there for Superman...

I don't mind the Ridley Scott choice, but if he even uses Russell FCUKING Crowe's name anywhere near this movie...He gets his nuts stomped.

@JORELLCOOLJ
...oddly enough, I think if Ridley Scott WERE to bring in Crowe, I think he could do a decent Jor-El...I personally think he would have been able to pull off Superman when he was younger...LA Confidential looks with Gladiator body would have done it...don't know about Clark, but Superman, yeah...

We're not panicking because there's nothing to panic about. All we know about the story is that it supposedly features Brainiac and Lex Luthor.......which is awesomesauce.

JJ Abrams (LOL @ Abrahams) would be ideal to direct for me, but he'll probably be busy with Trek 2. Vaughn would be interesting.

@grog...
Kevin Smith has already said that he sucks at directing action...it would be a nerdgasm for him, but he recognizes that he wouldn't bring to the table what is needed for a good comic book movie...that's why he bowed out of Green Hornet...if he felt that he would be over his head with THAT, Superman would really send him over the edge...

Tim Burton = ...Wait---wait, what?
James McTiegue = Decent choice, I dunno....
Johnny Nolan = As long as he understands that it's Superman and not Batman, sure.
Peter Jackson = *whistle* cool choice. Does he even like superman?
Matthew Vaughaun = Big risk, I really don't know.
Bryan Singer = *HUrk* Sorry, I just threw up a little in my mouth. But maybe if he doesn't make the same mistakes he made last time.
JJ Abrams = ...He better not pull another "He Killed Spock's Mom!" moment.
Michael Bay = (Hank Hill voice) NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOH!
Mike Newell = WHAT?...What are you smoking????
McG = He did Terminator Salvation?... Huh, that might work...I wouldn't bet on him, though.
Guy Ritchie = Because he did Sherlock Holmes...I would give him a chance.
Zach Snyder = ....He did Watchmen...Mr. "Dr. Manhattan crotch-shots" himself...and you idiots want him to direct Superman?

How about we shorten this list some, people?
