On the name Superman

“It’s not really reluctance. It’s us…for me anyway, I wanted to give the right reverence to the word. Superman has a concept, and it can’t just be the thing that happens immediately. It’s got to be earned.”

“And I thought it would be cool to have Lois be in a weird way the one that invents the idea. Because like where doe Superman come from? Who coined that phrase? How does that happen? So Lois sort of starts the idea and then…”

The Good: Character, Most of the performances, Special effects
The Bad: Plot progression is painfully predictable.
The Basics: A complete reboot of Superman, Man Of Steel presents a more angsty version of Clark Kent and Kal-El and a bigger threat to Earth in his first real adventure.

Despite the issues where Man Of Steel is plotted like a familiar super hero origin story, the film feels fresher than most and is not only solidly entertaining, it makes a decent commentary on the human and alien here on Earth.

8/10

Man of Steel is an upcoming 2013 superhero film directed by Zack Snyder, produced by Christopher Nolan, and scripted by David S. Goyer. Based on the DC Comics character Superman, the film will be a reboot of the Superman film series, portraying the character's origin story. The film stars Henry Cavill in the title role, with Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Michael Shannon as General Zod, Diane Lane as Martha Kent, Kevin Costner as Jonathan Kent, Laurence Fishburne as Perry White and Russell Crowe as Jor-El. Man of Steel will launch a shared fictional universe of DC Comics characters on film.

Clark Kent is a journalist who was adopted as a child by Jonathan and Martha Kent after he was transported to Earth from the dying planet of Krypton. Raised with the values of his adoptive parents, he feels alienated because of his unique super powers and struggles to find his own place in life. When the world is attacked, he becomes the hero named Superman to protect Earth and its people.

Cool. One thing I do like that ive seen from the trailers is the cinematography. Some great looking angles. With the exception of the mid air punching battle. Sorry it looked a little lame to me.

Damn the spoilers for this always suck. This isn't even spoilerish sorry...

when I hear "spoiler" I'd like to think of a confirmed cameo...or specific fight scene in detail.

This is just about Superman's name and how Snyder views it.

Finally a review written with some semblance of intelligence and objectivity. Solid write-up by Swarts, and yet another quote by Snyder I don't care for. The guy needs to learn how to articulate; he sounds terrible for any of several reasons when he gives interviews.

Anyway, that's the first review I've read that has given me a good impression of the film, and after all of the fanboy/studio exec nonsense we've seen up to now, it's quite a relief.

This sounds like it will reach the heights of the Avengers, but with a bit more intelligence but it sounds like it has the same problem as the Avengers, predictable as [frick]. But thats fine, I can forgive that, its sort of expected in franchises that are only starting out. It just means that Snyder (and Whedon) will have to up their game and make a more in depth sequel that will look deeper at the relationships of the characters in the movie and provide a more intelligent, in-depth plot.

Still, just makes me more excited for Man Of Steel, its gonna be awesome

So he gives it an 8/10 because its an origin story? (Duh! It's the first movie in a cbm reboot; he also gave Batman Begins an 8/10 so that makes since for him) but he didn't say anything negative except that you'd think the GL's would show up with such a huge interplanetary threat. That I agree with if this was a sequel and they had been established to audiences otherwise that's horse crap. This movie will be just as good as we've thought if your read this review compared to other movies he's reviewed.

He gave iron man 2 a 9/10 which makes him lose a lot of credibility in my book and he seems to be particularly hard on monies in general giving both casino royals and Skyfall a 6 and 6.5 respectively which is crazy considering how those are two of the best 007 films ever.

To further my point he only gave avengers a 8.5 and iron man 1 a 7.5.

To that I say ppppsssshhhh man of steel is gonna be fricking awesome!

So says SINESTRO!

ok not complaining, but Snyder, you didn't come up with the idea that Lois gave Superman his name, its been part of the mythos since before he was born in comics, movies and tv shows.....
JayJayCAW
JayJayCAW - 5/29/2013, 6:35 AM
the only bad in the review is the plot progression being obvious.....I can live with that :)
TheDARKestKNIGHT
TheDARKestKNIGHT - 5/29/2013, 6:38 AM
^^^ but even with saying the plot is "obvious" it's freaking Superman, the most iconic super hero ever. Who doesn't know his origin story for the most part!? All the writers did was throw in the Zod/invasion element and bam.
RalphieWiggum88
RalphieWiggum88 - 5/29/2013, 6:49 AM
He also gave X-Men Origins Wolverine a 7/10

Movies like Man of Steel, The Avengers, etc get knocked for that and I never understand or agree with it. The first movie should always be about just establishing the character or in the Avengers case, the team. It should be simple at the start.
