Michael Rosenbaum "Open" to Returning to Smallville -- Sort Of

In an interview with SerieAstenTv, Michael Rosenbaum claims he's open to the idea of returning to Smallville...sort of. It's hard to decipher exactly what he means, actually.

Says Rosenbaum, "You know... that's a tough question. I don't know. We've tried to work things out. I don't know if they're going to work out. Maybe they will, maybe they won't. I never say no to anything. I don't know. I'm open. It just has to work out right, it has to be right. So if it happens - I miss the guys, I love the crew, the cast. I had a great time. I was there for seven years, a lot of people don't realize. I was there seven years. I thought I was finished, but who knows? You never know."

Uh.... what did he say?

Maybe it's his way of saying, "They want me back, I don't want to come back, but I don't want to come across like a putz"? I'm just reading between the hems and the haws.

They've got to bring him back especially after the lacklustre way things finished between him and Clark in season 7! The show hasn't been anywhere near as good since Rosenbaum left and I for one would love to see things finish with a confrontation between Superman (that's right, Welling actually in the costume) and Luthor facing off even if it's only verbally. :)

Its a CRIME IF we don't get him back as LEX... he actually sort of promised he'd do a last season episode or two in the past!

Hopefully he has to keep stum and he will appear in the last episode at least... even if its a 3 minute cameo...

Its a MUST!

Oh yeah, talking Superman TV shows ... check out a SUPERMAN CASTING, no its not for the new movie lol!

I don't get it.Did him and the big wigs have a falling out or something? He keeps saying,"We've tried to work things out".Does he harbor some kind of animosity because they made him shave his head bald all those years. If he doesn't come back, that's like a slap in the face to all of Smallville & his fans.He has to remember that his fans put him where he is.When I first watched Urban Legend & Cursed back in the day,I didn't know who he was.But then after watching Smallville for the past 6 years & then catching those movies on TV here & there,I said to myself,"Holy shat that's Rosenbaum".So he needs to come back because I don't think it can end without him. It's not like he's doing anything else right now,or the past 3 years in that fact.Seeing him in at least more than 5 episodes would be nice too. They could show a backstory of where he's been and what happened after the explosion that supposedly killed him,and how he's been healed. They could go 2 ways with it,the clones have all of his memories of Clark & who he really is.Or they can have the real Lex losing his memory of Clark totally after the explosion,so that he doesn't know his secret identity when he becomes Superman. And by the way,I would like to remind all the haters that when Smallville started it wasn't supposed to be a "Superman" show.It has and always been his journey to become Superman. They could just end it without him ever putting the suit on at all.If he would have worn the suit in the first season it would have been like watching Lois and Clark or any Superman movie.I myself haven't read a comic book in 20 years, but have always been a fan of the superhero genre since I was little, and I'm 33 now.Smallville I know doesn't fall in line with the comics. But that's what I like, people that have a different "TAKE" on stuff. You can't do the same thing over and over and over, what would be the point?Good find Ed.But Rosie keeps skating around the question.Either that,or he is just trying to fool us and surprise the hell out of the fans by showing up on the show.Maybe?

I think Rosenbaum is awesome as Lex, but in this interview, he sounds like a MUTHAF-CKIN IDIOT!

However, it sounds like they're some back story that I don't know about.

If this is about hair cuts. In the comics, Lex had cloned himself and had hair. That's all they have to do for Smallville.

But by time Lex's storyline ends, the show should have his hair falling out. That way, no haircuts are necessary.

Not to be rude, but what he is really saying is that if the money is right I will come back. That has been the issue the whole time, he wanted more money and WB/CW/ and DC didn't want to give it to him. He deserves it so give it to him already!!!

GOD DAMMIT MICHAEL STOP RAPING OUR MINDS AND JUST COME BACK!!! SMALLVILLE NEEDS YOU!! God we need our proper portrayal of Lex Luthor back!!!!! You are the epitome of Lex dammit come back!!!

If he comes back...shit I'll continue watching again on a regular basis...he always made the show more interesting. The dynamic between him and Lionel and damn even just solo episodes with just Lex...and heck even when he's just there for a few minutes it always gets interesting. Please god bring Michael back!!!

HarrisonBergeron
HarrisonBergeron - 10/7/2010, 9:23 AM
He is probably already back. Everything on Smallville gets spoiled months before it happens maybe in the tenth, and final, season they are going to try and actually have a big surprise for fans whether they like it or not(people who cling to spoilers).

If he says no comment, we all know that he is back, if he says that the producers are the problem CW will be bombarded with mail from fans, this way has the best work:chance-of-success ratio.
LP4
LP4 - 10/7/2010, 9:37 AM
@WakeUp and HarrisonBergeron- I hope you're both right because Smallville just isn't the same without him. If it's a money issue, then please just pay the man! The kind of performances he has given on the show are worthy of a fatty paycheck in my opinion, i mean damn he gave Lex Luthor so much more depth and emotion and really showed the transformation from good to evil FLAWLESSLY.

I wish him and Lana would both return, then we get a little reunion with Tom, Michael and Krisitin in the final season!
DudeOfSteel16
DudeOfSteel16 - 10/7/2010, 11:00 AM
Smallville needs two things to happen in the series finale for it to end on a high note:
1) Lex Luthor- not some damn clone, but the real Lex, Michael Rosenbaum for the whole episode
2) Clark wearing the suit and not just for ten freakin seconds but for the whole episode

they can work out those things MIKE was somewhat referring too and bring him back!!

I agree with the two points "BigChief16" brought up. No more of the gay cloning...just excuses and cheap ways to bring in Lex without really bringing him back. Michael is the ONE TRUE LEX LUTHOR for the show...it's a slap in the face to bring in this cloning CRAP instead of our epic Lex Luthor.

And yeah, Tom has the suit...he just needs to [frick]EN WEAR IT ALREADY [frick]!!!

He is saying "I WANT MORE MONEY".
EdGross
EdGross - 10/7/2010, 8:03 PM
I think it's more than just wanting more money. He says at one point, "I did it for seven years. People forget I was there for seven years." To me that seems to say, "I've done it enough; I don't want to play it anymore."

As far as the whole cloning thing -- the producers recently brought up a valid point. Superman's enemy is Lex Luthor. If they can't get Michael back, they may need to have the character and will have to work around Rosenbaum's willingness to do it. I certainly wouldn't lay all of this at the feet of the producers and or network. My feeling is that Rosenbaum simply doesn't want to do it. Seven years, as far as he's concerned, is enough.

Seven years IS a long time...damn

@blight- hahaha! Yeah i can imagine that as a Chirstopher Walken voice too actually, LOL good point

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WT2RAmO83dM

Confirmed- He got sick of shaving his damn head for seven years and got tired of working in another country everyday and making the commutes. This sounds similar to John Shea (Lex from Lois and Clark) he left after the 1st season cause of the commute from New York to L.A every single day.

I hope Rosenbaum can still come back for at least ONE episode...one final trip to Canada shouldn't kill him and heck they can give him a damn bald cap! lol
HarrisonBergeron
HarrisonBergeron - 10/7/2010, 10:41 PM
I don't think that the hair issue is a big one, the comics had a Lex clone with long hair, there is no reason that Smallville could not do the same if they had to. I would be more than happy to have a Michael back with long red hair.
