The Shadow (1994) - Alec Baldwin stars with Penelope Ann Miller as the legendary crime-fighting superhero in "The wittiest action-adventure since Indiana Jones!" (NBC News). Donning his sweeping black cape and disguise, The Shadow takes on his most dangerous nemesis yet: the last descendant of the great Genghis Khan whose weapon of choice is an atomic bomb. Nice to look back and think that this was the early start to the Superhero Movie Craze! This movie in my opinion was great, I saw this at the movies with my buddies and we all loved it. Great for it's time!!!

I love that movie. Never understood why people hated it. But most people, who don't know any better, say it's a Batman rip-off, instead of acknowledging that this character came before Batman and how inspired it was for its time.
Guess it's the same with John Carter of Mars and Star Wars.

The Shadow & The Phantom were fun pulpy films.
Not to be taken seriously but just for watching a throwback adventure.

The Shadow film while far from perfect, had great potential; Baldwin strongly resembled Howard Chaykin's version of Lamont Cranston/Kent Allard (the Shadow's true identity). The period setting was faithful and the cast was solid. Like the Phantom and some others, the film is unnecessarily maligned. Few films are perfect as evidenced by many of today's superhero flicks. Fans trash these older films because they think only the Nolan-verse is valid storytelling (we must be gritty, dark and grounded). If the ever have the balls to remake the Shadow, Sasha Roiz from Grimm would make an excellent choice. Of course, modern director's will never cast an actor that looks like the character, especially an unknown, (with a few exceptions) as long as they get a big box office name.

The Shadow and The Golden Child were two of my absolute favorite films during my childhood. Oddly enough both featured that same weird/cool dagger.

Now lets make a new Shadow movie. If only the entire movie could have lived up to the opening scene. The chasing after the bomb scene made me cringe. It had its good moments. Baldwin looked good as the Shadow, especially when they change his nose. That was kind of weird how his Cranston nose looked like his, but it changed more to the classic look of the Shadow when he was in costume. There was too much Cranston and not enough Shadow as well. Peter Boyle made a great Shrevvie.
