THE BOYS Showrunner Confirms That "Girls Get It Done" Scene Was A Direct Dig At AVENGERS: ENDGAME

Confirming online speculation surrounding the "girls get it done" moment from The Boys Season 2, showrunner Eric Kripke has made it very clear that the scene was a direct parody of Avengers: Endgame...

Early on in Season 2 of Amazon's The Boys, Stormfront, Starlight and Queen Maeve pose for an incredibly cheesy "girls get it done" shot while filming Justice League parody "Dawn of The Seven." If you thought this might be a little dig at the highly divisive "girl power" moment from Avengers Endgame's final battle, you'd have been spot on!

During an interview with THR, showrunner Eric Kripke said that while he is a fan of the MCU, he wanted The Boys to highlight some of the shortcomings of the superhero genre, in general, and felt that such a contrived moment was practically begging to be parodied.

"A lot of that came from our executive producer, Rebecca Sonneshine, who came in after the weekend Endgame opened," he explained. "She was just furious. I saw it, too, and I was like, "That was the dumbest, most contrived—" And she’s like, "Don’t get me started." She found it condescending and I agreed. So that just created for us a target, a satirical target. When there’s something really ridiculous in either superhero or celebrity or Hollywood culture, we’ll immediately go after it. It’s an easy shot."

Of course, the recent finale gave us a real girls get it done moment when Starlight, Maeve and Kimiko teamed up to kick the crap out of Stormfront.

What do you guys make of Kripke's comments? Let us know in the usual place, and be sure to check out our recap of the the Season 2 finale of The Boys HERE.

@tmp3

Watched about half of it this morning! Was really loving it.

Really excited to finish it tonight. Might just reset it completely.

@tmp3 - Hopefully checking it out tonight!

Watched One Night in Miami on Wednesday, amazing movie. Kingsley Ben Adir and Eli Goree were both just fantastic, and Aldis Hodge is gonna hit it big with this year he's had and with being Hawkman!

@DannRamm113 - Ben Adir was the MVP imo. So [frick]ing good.
Hodge was great too, bad-ass casting for Hawkman

They should've played No Doubt's "Just a Girl" to really drive the point home.

@BlackBeltJones - What made me laugh was all the "you [frick]ing bitch!" going on during the fight.
Choreography could have been more cinematic, though.

@BlackBeltJones - I love Endgame. Like that movie brings tears to my eyes and even I agree The boys girls scene was 10x better than that pandering A-force scene in Endgame. It should have been Captain Marvel holding the gauntlet and Thor, Iron Man, and Cap landing by her to hold off Thanos.

Great season but the plot armor in the finale got on my nerves. Stormfront had no problem wiping out an entire building of innocent people, but when the boys challenge her, she just zaps them when she could have easily turned them to mush. I almost always let it slide but that was just ridiculous.

@THEDARKKNIGHT1939 - She was overpowered by 3 Supes and roasted by a kid with Homelander's powers. There's no armor abut it.

@THEDARKKNIGHT1939 - has to be noted tho that most of the people in the high rise were black, Stormfront being a racist Nazi showed from her actions taken there wasn't any regard for their well being.

THEDARKKNIGHT1939 - 10/16/2020, 11:05 AM
@NewAtrocitus3 - There were many moments when she wasn't overpowered and had the opportunity.

She could have killed the boys when they are all just standing in front of her talking and Kimiko is laughing.
0:14 - She could have killed the boys after she knocked out Starlight and they are running away, but she just blows up the cars instead.
0:49 - She could have killed the boys after she took down Kimiko and they are shooting her with useless pistols, but she just pushes them away.
2:08 - She could have killed Butcher but instead just shocks him and tosses him to the side.

@aievilgenius - She wants the world to be ruled by Supers. She doesn't like anyone that is normal. Why wouldn't she want to kill the people who are actively trying to kill her? And even if she had no intention of killing them, then what exactly are the stakes?
NewAtrocitus3
NewAtrocitus3 - 10/16/2020, 11:12 AM
@THEDARKKNIGHT1939 - It's called "having a breakdown": she was outed as an actual Nazi, she's not right in the head in the first place, she's a narrow-minded sadist, after all, and add to that the fact that she's as condescending and underestimating of people as Homelander, and there you go... no plot armor anywhere.
THEDARKKNIGHT1939
THEDARKKNIGHT1939 - 10/16/2020, 11:20 AM
@NewAtrocitus3 - If she's having a breakdown, then why wouldn't she just kill them all?
MyCoolYoung
MyCoolYoung - 10/16/2020, 12:24 PM
@THEDARKKNIGHT1939 - I saw that as well. When she zapped them back and they fell or while they were running for the guns. She didn't fear any supe that was there because they couldn't match her strength so her not coming in hot didn't make a lot of sense

@THEDARKKNIGHT1939 -

2:36

"I like to watch the Light go out..."

That's why she didn't do it. She wanted to watch them die and do it personally.

That's part of her character. She didn't want to wipe them out in one swoop. They'd revealed her identity as a Nazi. She wanted to personally kill them one by one. So she focussed on incapacitating them before she was finally in a position to do the deed.

There is no plot armour, it's just how her character reacts. And perhaps its plot armour but its not inconsistent with her character so....

Yea. Perfectly acceptable that she held off on killing them with her powers. Just so she could break their necks.

I thought it was a really funny take down. The issue wasn’t the concept it was the execution being so ham-fisted in that scene, and The Boys mined it for two great jokes
NewAtrocitus3
NewAtrocitus3 - 10/16/2020, 10:41 AM
@tmp3 - When I saw that Endgame scene, the first thing I had was that it wouldn't have been that clunky if they just kept passing around that gauntlet among them just as the guys did it before. The whole performance felt hollow and unnecessary.
