THE BOYS Star Jensen Ackles Reveals New Details About "Curmudgeon, Bigoted Asshole" Soldier Boy

Supernatural alum Jensen Ackles will play Soldier Boy in season 3 of The Boys, and the actor has now revealed some surprising details about this version of the "hero" and how he's introduced in the series.

With Supernatural now in his rearview mirror, Jensen Ackles is moving on to different roles, including Soldier Boy in The Boys season 3. There's a huge amount of excitement to see what both the actor and character bring to Amazon's hit series, and Ackles dropped a few new details during a recent conversation with Michael Rosenbaum on his Inside Of You podcast (via CBR).

Describing the character as a "jackass," the actor added: "He's a grandpa. He's from the '40s. He fought in World War II, and he's just this curmudgeon, bigoted asshole. He doesn't age, so he's this 40-year-old superhero who's really 80 years old or 90 years old."

That sounds a lot like the Ultimate version of Captain America, and Ackles would go on to reveal where we find Soldier Boy when his arc in The Boys begins.

"There's just so much material there," he said of getting to explore this character on screen. "He's [got] a taste for people who were of his era. They find me and I've been essentially in captivity for a while. And so, when they do, I'm bearded and I look like [I'm from the movie] Cast Away, but then they clean me up and I get my superhero outfit back on and I go to town."

Soldier Boy has previously been described as "Homelander before Homelander" by showrunner Eric Kripke, so anyone hoping The Boys is about to get a real hero will likely be disappointed. There were two versions of the character in the comic books, and we're guessing the plan is to pull from both of them (but probably not have him get intimate with Homelander in a quest to join The Seven).

The Boys season 3 is set to premiere on June 3.

Smallville's messed me up so bad that I can never read about Jensen Ackles without immediately thinking about Justin Hartley

Hmmm I think all of it it's just misdirection.

He's portrayed as an asshole but Homelander is a genocidal super human.

There's a difference between being an asshole and being Homelander.

Also, Homelander before Homelander? Which version of Homelander? The one before losing his shit ot the one that went full villain?

You guys already know how I feel about this show so I won't get into it here. But I will say this:

"the plan is to pull from both of those (but probably not have him get intimate with Homelander in a quest to join The Seven)."

At least if he turned out to be an aggressive power bottom that intimidates the hell outta Homelander because of his sexual voraciousness it would make the whole "asshole supe" thing a little more bearable. Only because there'd at least be something more to him than just being an "asshole supe". (Seriously, how many "asshole supes" can there be in one show before it all becomes just one note?)

Ultimate Captain America was just no nonsense

I hope he's not just another racist like Stormfront. Let's take a different angle with this one. Hoping they do a take on the closeted gay version from the comics. Have him trying to get with Homelander who rejects him but then slowly starts taking advantage of him until it spirals into something more sinister. That would be logical with the last time we saw HL saying 'I can do anything' and him sleeping with SB not because he's necessarily attracted to him but simply just because he can and then ends up in a deeper hole than expected.

Excuse the pun.
