John Cusack Talks Preacher...Sort Of

MTV asked the actor about those his comments from last year about starring in Sam Mendes's Preacher adaptation...

I don't know if you remember a story from last year in which Cusack spoke about a certain CBM that he would be interested in starring in. It certainly SOUNDED like he was talking about Preacher...

"Are there any [comic book movies] you've seen floating around in Hollywood that you'd like to see made?"

"Yeah, I can, there was one or two that I heard of that sounded really cool. One of them was about, I think... it's a vampire and a killer, and they're on the road, and it's this really strange story. I thought that sounded pretty cool. Also some of the obscure ones, I don't know if there are any more superheroes left."

"That sounds a little bit like Preacher?"

"I think it might have been Preacher."

"You should get involved with that!"

"I'm trying to. I heard about that one, I like that."

"Who would you want to play?"

"I'd say either the vampire or the priest. One of those two guys."

"So just the two best characters in the comic?"

"Why not?"

Well, either it wasn't Preacher or Mr Cusack has some serious memory problems, because when MTV asked him for an update, he had no idea what they were talking about!

"What's that?" responded Cusack when MTV asked whether he was indeed interested in an adaptation of the Preacher comic book series.

After they explained the premise of the series and recalled his comments from last year about it, Cusack still seemed completely unaware of the book.

"I didn't know about that one, but maybe I'll have to go after it now," he laughed.

So still no solid news I'm afraid. Aside from Mendes sating that he will get around to the film at some point, Cusack's comments have literally been the only other thing mentioned regarding Preacher thus far. I don't think too many fans will be disappointed that Cusack isn't actually going to be playing Jesse Custer..and certainly not Cassidy! He is a great actor but he wouldn't seem like a good fit for those characters..that being said, there are a lot worse!

Preacher is still listed as being under development under Sam Mendes for Colombia pictures. Last we heard John August was half way through a script, and Mendes was optimistic..at one point even talking about 2 or 3 movies. Lets hope we hear some more about it very soon.

Hell no - Marsters FAKE English accent is bad enough, there's no way he could pull off a scouse accent. Oh and he's a short arse ham

I actually liked Constantine but I agree that it should have been more faithful to the comic. La Buff as Chaz was the biggest liberty..and killing him even bigger. Reeves didn't look..or sound anything like JC, but he did nail the essence of the character ..for the most part anyway. If they reboot, my pic is Clive Owen hands down.

For Preacher..ummm, here is a fan cast i did ages ago..I would prob replace Butler seeing as he now appears to be a chick flick staple.

Sounds more like he's ducking the question. Maybe they are getting things going and he is getting around the questions. I don't know, I think he lacks the intensity of Preacher. I enjoy all his movies.

I like your Preacher cast Ror along with the new Owen pic.

Ah I still like him..although I thought he sucked in Law Abiding Citizen to be honest. He just annoys me..every time I go to the flicks I see his air brushed mug on another poster for some glossy pile of rom-com shite.

@ ror Did you ever see him in the Ugly Truth?lol Doubt it but he looked drunk out of his mind in that movie. Red bloodshot/tired eyes. It was so hard to look at him.

Nah, must have missed that one! hah, I do like Ms Heigl though..but [frick] her too until she decides to be an actress again. I think Butler is such a poon hound that he loves making those rom com's for the female adulation.

Oh gawd....Katherine heigl....she needs to fade away into obscurity. She really started believing her own hype.
@ t2....omg...it was so sad to see. He looked so awful. I kept thinking...where is the make up team?

i'm not too familiar with preacher myself, but i loved constantine, still havent checked out hellblazer either, but the movie i really enjoyed. i could see cusack playing the guy onthe left, but another whom would besuited well for the role judging from that pic, it looks a lot like jeffrey donovan from burn notice, and maybe his co-star bruce campbell from the show as well for the guy on the right? anyways, i realize not knowing much into this, that a lot of people who are into the series might find this an absolutely horrible casting, that being said, no offense whatsoever with this post, just putting my possible take out there on this.. the past year and a half is my first time into the comic world and it's hard to believe before all the big ones all i owned in the past when i was young was a harbinger comic, still don't quite understand it after all these years, but now i like most of em..

Cusack's a has-been and phone in artist, as much as I like him, his early work anyway. 2012 great effects, shite acting.

For Preacher, man someone amazing is needed.

imnotwearinghockeypants - think Jackman's gonna be busy for a while.

Butler is a Bruce Willis - same guy every time. Pretty sure Rorshach is right about his poon houndedness and rom coms. I find it sort of funny, but hey who can blame him - that's not a bad job. Enjoyed the story of Law Abiding Citizen - performances were so so.

Keanu did good in Constantine imo - one of his two or three good roles. I love the movie, and would love to see a sequel.

And on Clive Owen - the guy's one of the best actors of this generation who could probably pull off any role you give him, provided he looks similar in anyway whatsoever. But lately I think he's become a rom com poon hound himself.
Ugh

Everyone@ I wouldn't write Butler quite yet, I'm looking forward to one of his upcoming movies called "Machine-Gun Preacher." True story about a drugged out biker turned priest/missionary who go's down to Africa gets irate about child soldiers being taken from his flock and gets them back.

I have a hard time believing Preacher. Could work as a movie. It really needs to be HBO or Showtime. I don't think anyone wants to deal with the amount of hell they'll get from the Bible thumpers. Preacher is exactly the type of story those bible belt baptist would feast on. Protest, etc... Either way I would see it but it needs to be a weekly show.

Meh.

Ror - Hahah you said Keanu "nail the essence of the character" Thanks for qualifying that with "for the most part" but I'm still not gonna let that slide ^_^

...and btw, it should be Guy Pierce for JC. Accept no substitues. Take it away, Chef.
