Work On The PREACHER Script Begins In Earnest

Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg have been developing the Preacher series since July, but now, the duo have revealed that they've begun work on the script in earnest [via Twitter]. Said Goldberg, "UPDATE: We have started writing a script. We met with Garth [Ennis]. He gave us great notes. PREACHER!!!!!!!” It's good to know that Garth Ennis will be involved with the project, in some capacity. Given the graphic nature of the comic book series,it's likely that some of the subject matter will need to be diluted to air on AMC. And who better to help decide what needs to be pulled back and what absolutely needs to stay than the person who wrote the comic?

With Garth's blessing, my next biggest question is whether or not Rogen, Goldberg and fellow executive producer James Weaver have had preliminary talks with any actors for the roles?  Preacher features a very dynamic group of characters and I certainly don't envy the Casting Director on this one.

Merging with a bizarre spiritual force called Genesis, Texan Preacher Jesse Custer becomes completely disillusioned with the beliefs that he had dedicated his entire life to. Now possessing the power of "the word," an ability to make people do whatever he utters, Custer begins a violent and riotous journey across the country. Joined by his gun-toting girlfriend Tulip and the hard drinking Irish vampire Cassidy, the Preacher loses faith in both man and God as he witnesses dark atrocities and improbable calamities during his exploration of America.

Everything Garth Ennis touches turns to gold. If he's involved then there's a lot of potential.

So.. "Arrow", "The Flash", "Constantine", "Gotham", "iZombie" and now "Preacher" and "Supergirl"?

I'm totally here for that.

Keep up the good work, DC.

I usually give projects the benefit of the doubt until I see footage but I have zero faith in this after Green Hornet. I think Seth Rogen is an alright guy and some of his movies are pretty funny but nothing he's done leads me to believe this is going to turn out well.

Regarding an impending comic-related movie:
Not since the announced production of The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen have I felt such trepidation. Never has the divide between such a well respected, venerated work AND the potential misrepresentation and debasement of said work, been so huge.
I am worried.
What KINGPEN266 said . . . and then some.

I never really understood Preacher. When the first graphic novel for this came out I walked into my local comic shop and asked Bryan, my then local dealer for a comic with a good story. He pointed out this, Green Lantern and Justice league..both the Justice League and Green Lantern comics I was happy with but the Preacher never stood for anything more than parody cause reasons. Yes, I get the forced egregiously heavy handed symbolism, I just never thought it was clever or interesting, I thought it was stupid. The general premise is interesting, but the execution and everything including the Killer of Saints just struck me as kind of meh. It was different than most other basic material out there at the time for certain, but that didn't make it good to me. Anyway, just my few cents, not really interested in this but I hope it gets made well because competition can lead to excellence.

@bladnite78, I would recommend giving Preacher another shot and read the 2nd graphic novel. Ennis fleshes out Jesse's character alot in the 2nd book. I think it's my fav of the series. The 1st book introduces alot of characters and plot threads but it really picks up in book 2.
