AMC Renews The Walking Dead For A Second Season!

After rumors of a second season even before the release of the first one, it is now official. The Walking Dead will be getting a Second Season!

Deadline is reporting after a record breaking 2 episodes The Walking Dead will indeed be returning for a second season. Here is what president of AMC Charlie Collider and Sharon Tal Yguado, SVP Scripted Programming had to say about the renewal

“The ‘Dead’ has spread!” said Charlie Collier, President, AMC.“No other cable series has ever attracted as many Adults 18-49 as ‘The Walking Dead.’ This reaffirms viewers’ hunger for premium television on basic cable. We are so proud to be bringing back ‘The Walking Dead’ again, across the globe.”

“I wish all programming decisions were no brainers like this one,” said Sharon Tal Yguado, SVP Scripted Programming. “‘The Walking Dead’ is a TV masterpiece on so many levels. We want at least 10 seasons, if not more. Kudos to AMC!”

The Walking Dead has scored ratings only two episodes into its 6 episode first season so a second season should come as no surprise. With a an ongoing comic series by Robert Kirkman as its basis, the show could easily have at least a few more seasons worth of story telling, but how awesome does ten sound?

You can catch The Walking Dead Sundays at 10 on AMC.

One of the best shows to Premier in A LONG TIME!! This show is very good, right up there with Breaking Bad. Could even challenge it if it continues to progess. So many great stories that can be told with this premise.

get off the smallville dic k.

every cb show gets off the ground running, let's see how long it last.

one has been done in the past so there's a lot of stuff to compare to. this is the first time this style based on a cb has been presented so naturally it's going to get off on a high.

Well I will say it is very rare that I have time or the drive to watch a show on television regularly but this one has me hooked. In only two episodes it has offered the potential to so many confrontations and plotlines that I am already wondering what's going to happen between certain characters. This is doubled by the fact that I'm hoping they will cover events not yet explained in between the main character's absence and current.
The special effects are great and handled fantastically. It goes beyond just a zombie action series and I can already tell they'll be digging into the mentalities and traumas that survivors would endure in a zombie apocalypse setting.

WorldsGreatestdetective @ 100% agree, 6 episodes is a damn shame!

Hopefully season two we'll get 22 episodes! ; D

Okay, thinking too big, 12 episodes lol! ; P

Still if the ratings are still sky high, they'd be stupid not to do 22!

LOVED the first two episodes! My ONLY complaint..and it's a small one..is the actress who plays Lori is pretty wooden and her character on the tv series is a bit more of a slut than the character in the comic series. Otherwise...perfection!

Attention to detail; he climbed under a British Chieftain tank and climbed in through an escape hatch (Which Chieftain doesnt have) of an American M60..............still can't fathom why they would do that. Why not just use an M60 as there are plenty of them around. A British Chieftain crewed by an American soldier on the streets of Atlanta, attention to detail chaps, attention to detail.

10 seasons is easy when you only have 6 epsiodes a year. Heck I heard season 2 will have 13, that's still easier than the normal 22. Not complaining though cause it's a great show so I'll take as many as I can get assuming the quality stays high

@preacher-i agree she also plays Sarah Tancredi in the series PRISON BREAK...she's a good actress i can say but her facial expression is too stiff...

@superdog-according to my professor back years ago a season is made up normally by 13 episodes and sometimes they make 20 or more episodes to make closure of a season because it can't be compacted in 13 eps...and sometimes the season is being extended by the distributor or tv station. i hope we could get 20 more in TWD

i'm so into TWD hoping for all the character/actors good health especially the characters that will appear in the entire series...i don't want this series ending up like what happended to Spartacus...waiting for this month's issue too...wonder how many issues will Kirkman do..

Wonderful news!

Hopefully the next season will come quickly!
And we'll get more episodes. This is so down
to earth authentic-feeling for a really out
there premise and there are a ton of ideas
that can be explored with this story!

Can't wait for the next season!

Darabount and bunch are outdoing themselves!

@jimpeachey That is unbelievable that you noticed that, also where are all these tanks you speak of? haha

What I would like to see is this show with the Zombies more like the 28 weeks later ones. As long as their slow and stupid like these ones then really if you get killed/bitten by one then that's just you not payin attention. The 28 Weeks ones are just so much more intense and makes it way more real.

Checkmate - 11/8/2010, 9:07 PM
@continuezero I'd rather they keep the slow zombies, like they originally were in films.
I also don't think we need this show being compared to 28 Days/Weeks later IMO, it's already been criticised about the coma opening.
continuezero
continuezero - 11/8/2010, 9:42 PM
@Dane I think the comparasin between that I make is with respect to the zombies alone, I realise they are two different mediums and entities. I'm not comparing the two frnachises, just the Zombies. They do share the same genre. I just prefer a more aggresive zombie IMPO. When I see these types of zombies, all I can think of is Simon Pegg running around with a cricket bat and all of a sudden they're not so menacing. But I can respect the slow moving zombies from a tradition standpoint.
parascythe
parascythe - 11/8/2010, 10:09 PM
i dont know if you guys had read the comics but just to condition you it is reallt not about the zombies..it's all about the characters..what people do to survive in their most desperate moments...

zombies in TWD are more likely the background of the story and one of the most effective plot presenting such emotions and sanity. i guess someday you'll see that it's not about how slow the zombies are in this tv series not until they encounter the SPOILER"Herd"...

The comic is awesome (controversial, visceral, erotic, suspenseful, human, etc.). However, IMHO the show is overrated, formulaic, and the acting (with the exception of "Rick") is stiff. Also, the special effects are passable but not great. In fact, many of the "walking" zombies are kind of goofy and their makeup is nothing we haven't seen before. For real quality, check out Z. Snyder's 2004 "Dawn of the Dead" remake.

We're 2 episodes in and this series hasn't shown us anything unique or groundbreaking as far as the "zombie" genre goes. Also, Darabont seems to have "borrowed" scenes and ideas from more superior "zombie" flicks. In a nutshell, something's missing...it's kind of like the taste of a sugar-free cookie.

I had high hopes for this show and still hope it improves but so far it's arguably a 6 out of 10. Fingers crossed.

"This show is very good, to bad its only 6 episodes a season."

Maybe you should do a little detective work before you make those comments. (see what i did there? :) They said a while back that the only the first season is 6 episodes because they didn't know if it would be successful. Next season will be a regular sized season...unless they change their minds.
