BILLIONS Actor Jeffery DeMunn Looks Back At His Time On THE WALKING DEAD And His Decision To Kill Off Dale

As The Walking Dead progresses, it's easy to forget some of the characters that left us in earlier seasons. In a recent interview, Jeffery DeMunn spoke about his time on the show, and his abrupt exit.

Dale is a character on The Walking Dead that has a special place in a lot of people's hearts. If he's not hitting you with one of his classic "Dale Faces," he was trying to get the group to remember their humanity during their short stint at Hershel's Farm.

Actor Jeffery DeMunn played Dale for the first two seasons on the hit AMC show, and sat down to recall his time on the show and his relationship with the series' original showrunner, Frank Darabont, with Cleveland.com. "I immediately took to Frank and liked him and trusted him," DeMunn said of Darabont. "And I think he trusted me."

DeMunn continued to reflect on his relationship with Darabont, which led to him being cast in The Walking Dead. "I was doing a play down in Texas and Frank called and said, 'Hey, you want to come to Atlanta and kill zombies?' I didn't have to think about it. It was Frank. I knew it was going to be quality," he recalled. "The writing in the beginning was just amazing, as was that original cast. You can't talk about 'The Walking Dead' without talking about the extreme heat. I was always grateful for Dale's hat, by the way. It was serious heat and we were working all day. The heat had a way of uniting us all, cast and crew. You kept an eye on your friends under those conditions."

With Darabont being unceremoniously fired half way through the production of the second season, DeMunn knew that his time on the show needed to come to an end. He explained that Dale's death was his decision, and that he was, "furious about how Frank was pushed out of the show. I spent a week not being able to take a full breath. And then I realized, 'Oh, I can quit.' So I called them and said, 'It's a zombie show. Kill me. I don't want to do this anymore.' It was an immense relief to me."

DeMunn is currently starring in the Showtime series Billions. The Walking Dead, meanwhile, still keeps chugging along and has already been renewed for a ninth season on AMC.

Man, this makes me miss seasons 1 and 2. Dale was always hilarious.

This show went all downhill after this:

It was a terrible decision to kill Andrea off so early.

@L0RDbuckethead - Andrea is the coolest character in the comics. She is the worst on the show. Not bad acting, just an awful character. They killed her just when I started to not hate her quite so much.

@SummersEssex - TOTALLY agree.

I mean, they basically gave what was left of Andrea's butchered story on the show to the Sasha character, and then proceeded to kill her off, without even touching on some of Andrea's coolest moments from the comics. I just don't get it.

@L0RDbuckethead - but what a death for Sasha, right?

@SummersEssex - I mean I guess... but not my favorite of the series, that's for sure.

Dale was honestly my favorite character. When they killed him, I just couldn't emotionally invest in anything that happened after.

So, in that last episode, how have the Hilltop not managed to finish Negan's entire convoy, when they stupidly rolled up through the gate? The way the whole thing played out was absolutely stupid.

@Killuminatic - my confusion is how did everyone turn into zombies from zombie blood? I mean idk how many times these guys must have injested zombie blood splattered on there face.

A 9th season? Where could they possibly go next with this crap? A long drawn out whisperers arc? No thank you

Season's 1 & 2 are the BEST... Season 3 had some good moments that I really re-watch if for that, but it's all downhill after season 3 for me

Seasons 1 and 2 are good because there's less episodes.. Now it's all stretched out beyond interests just to stuff in more commercials.

Season 1 is the only season worth buying on Blu-Ray, I still cant understand how a show that makes as much money as TWD can have such terrible special effects it's really mind numbingly atrocious. Shane has moved on and become the Punisher so they need to cast Glen in a Marvel netflix show as well as some sort of side character thats very likeable.
