Director, Frank Darabont will write and direct the upcoming pilot episode of the AMC adaptation of the Image Comics graphic novel series The Walking Dead, which was created by Robert Kirkman. He is then expected to serve as an executive producer on the show.



"Andy is so good in this. He has a fantastic ability to intrigue the viewer," Darabont told MTV News. "It's that Gary Cooper thing. You wonder what's going on. You want to know what he's thinking. He holds back just enough to draw you in — that's a very rare knack for an actor. You put this guy on a horse and he really does look like Gary Cooper. It's great."

"I always kind of knew it, but it really came home as we've been shooting the last few days — it really does turn into a Western at times. You see Lincoln riding into the dusty streets of the town here, only it happens to be Atlanta with these skyscrapers, and it's a very cool mix of visual elements. There's a little John Ford meets 'I Am Legend' thing going on here."

LEE: I completely agree! Six episodes is ridiculous! The biggest problem with UK TV series' is that they only run for six episodes. The thing I love most about shows like House, to name one example, is that they run for 22/24 episodes a season! I'm really looking forward to this but six measly episodes is a huge let down...12 or 13 would be better! Oh well, maybe it'll be a case of quality over quantity!

I think if they bumped it up to 12 episodes it would be fine, 12 hours of any comic is enough to tell a well developed and thrilling story. If they work with something like AMC, HBO, Showtime, or FX they can get away with upping the violence, language, and the like now that the FCC can't regulate cable the way it used to.
