In this recent interview with MTV News, Robert Kirkman talks a little more about the game:

Things are moving along, Kirkman told MTV News of the project's current status. It's very early on in the process, but I'm looking at story points and I think they're going to make some announcements on that stuff very soon, and hopefully have some screenshots pretty quickly.

Kirkman, is the executive producer on the AMC television series and creator of the comic book, says that the game will have a similar relationship to the the comic book source material, following the general narrative but diverging here and there.

With the episodic nature of how they make the game, they can make a level and release a level, then make another level and release that level, so the game should come out in pretty rapid succession because of that, Kirkman said of the release schedule for each episode of The Walking Dead game.

Asked if the players would play as the series main character, Rick Grimes, a mix of all the survivors, or entirely new characters, Kirkman said that he could "neither confirm nor deny" whose perspective you'll play from in the game.

You'll be playing as characters from 'The Walking Dead' for sure, and different levels you'll play as different people, so we'll see, he teased.

Yeah, I don't think we can avoid [making it graphic] with something like this, he said when asked about if the game, like the television series, would have a similarly bloody, intense exploration of life after the zombie apocalypse. I would expect that kind of stuff.

no zombie game yet, has had the zombie apocalypse feel at all!!!
from dead rising to call of duty zombie, not one zombie game lets you explore a world that is not confined inside of some linear area.

now... in my opinion....

a solid zombie survivor game must be a large open world map on the lines of grand theft auto with only slight variance in anything other than the standard living dead everywhere. no mutated bursting zombies or giant nightmarish creatures... just loads and loads of walking dead everywhere.

imagine a mod for gta4 where instead of civilians walking around everywhere... they are all living dead.

rooftops and building to barricade yourself in with.

hordes moving like packs of wolves.

throw in 4 to 8 player coop ability and you have the most solid zombie survival game ever, and dont forget the work benches for improvised melee weapons, the occasional gun shop, and the ever neccessary grocery store.

not one zombie game worth a damn has been large enough in scope for my taste.
