STAR WARS: THE RISE OF SKYWALKER TV Spot Teases The End Of The Skywalker Saga

It doesn't contain any new footage, but this phenomenal TV spot for Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker does make it clear that "The Story Ends" as we near the conclusion of the Skywalker Saga. Check it out.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker concludes a story that began way back in 1977, and to say that expectations are high for J.J. Abrams to deliver a satisfying ending would be a massive understatement.

At least one more trailer for the movie should head our way before December rolls around, and in the meantime, we have a new TV spot. It doesn't contain any new footage, but it is absolutely epic and well worth a watch. If this doesn't get you excited to see the movie, nothing will

It's going to be very interesting to find out how Disney and Lucasfilm choose to market The Rise of Skywalker in the coming months, especially when so much of the plot is shrouded in secrecy (however, if you look in the right places online, you will find what people are claiming to be detailed story breakdowns).

Check out this first TV spot below, and stay tuned for more on this one as we have it.

Friends Reunited

Dfvvrh5b o

Rian Johnson split the heroes up in The Last Jedi (Rey and Poe Dameron didn't even meet until pretty much the final scene), but J.J. Abrams is bringing them back together for this adventure.

That's something fans will definitely appreciate, but there is a noteworthy omission here: R2-D2!

Now, it could just be that he and BB-8 are hidden in the background somewhere, but we've seen very little of him in The Rise of Skywalker up until now and there could be a reason for that.

The Resistance Fleet

1xhutsaz o

The Resistance was left reeling after The First Order's attack in The Last Jedi, but it appears as if they've managed to regroup...with some classic ships!

As you can see, we have A-Wings, B-Wings, X-Wings, and Y-Wings, and even what appear to be some CR-90 Corvettes, the same class of ship as the Tantive IV which opened A New Hope. Interestingly, there's even a YT Freighter that isn't the Millennium Falcon, so it appears as if our heroes have been searching high and low in order to create a formidable fleet.

The Empire's Backup Plan?

Ielqgbmh o

These are Imperial Star Destroyers from the original Star Wars trilogy, and recent novels and video games have revealed that The Emperor had some sort of contingency plan that would be acted on upon his death. The question is, why have these ships been kept hidden and who's inside them?

Some fans have noticed that there are red decals on the Star Destroyers, so perhaps these are Palpatine's Sith Troopers? They may have been waiting for the right moment to strike and while we don't know what that is, it's possible that The First Order may just be an offshoot of the real Empire...

C-3PO Turns To The Dark Side

Rgtg0jvc o

Or not. C-3PO may appear to have turned evil here, but there's probably a very good explanation for this. In leaked promo art, we've seen the beloved droid wielding Chewbacca's Bowcaster, a sign that he's going to be a little more proactive in The Rise of Skywalker

If you've read the Darth Vader comic book series, you'll know that the assassin protocol droid Triple Zero has red eyes, so this is probably akin to an "instant kill" mode that will allow Threepio to bypass his programming and start taking out some Stormtroopers!

A Powerful New Weapon

Nthcnc4p o

The Starkiller Base may have been destroyed in The Force Awakens, but it seems as if The First Order (or The Emperor) has been hard at work constructing a new super weapon.

This looks a lot like the sort of blast you might expect to come from the Death Star, but don't be surprised if these powerful looking, possibly Kyber-based blasts are actually emanating from one of those Star Destroyers. If that's the case, the Resistance will find themselves outgunned in a big way.

Rey's Training

Wkffncwz o

Rey appears to be training in the same jungle environment where Leia could be seen earlier in the trailer, and she's using a training remote similar to the one we saw on the Millennium Falcon in The Force Awakens which Luke used way back in A New Hope.

She's clearly rebuilt the lightsaber which was destroyed in The Last Jedi, and this is probably just an establishing sequence of some sort.

The Emperor's Narration

Jnswaefz o

Yes, that is indeed The Emperor's voice you hear in this trailer, and he says, "Your journey...nears its end."

The question is, whose journey is he referring to? That's clearly newly recorded dialogue, and while it might have been used solely for this trailer, it's interesting to wonder how those comments might factor into the plot. Is he talking to Kylo Ren or Rey? We'll just have to wait and see...

An Epic Lightsaber Duel

Qjpssyvo o

Chances are that this is a piece of the Death Star that Kylo Ren and Rey are battling on, as we saw in the first trailer that the remains of the space station had crashed into the ocean on this mysterious alien planet. This looks like an incredible battle and is a nice contrast to the fiery final fight in Revenge of the Sith.

There are a lot of conflicting theories about how the relationship between these two will play out in The Rise of Skywalker, but this most definitely doesn't look like Ren is training his "apprentice."

Rey Turns To The Dark Side?

17tt0ot8 o

The obvious explanation to this moment in the trailer is that this is just a Force Vision, or possibly even just a glimpse at what might have been had Rey made the decision to join Kylo Ren.

But isn't that just a tad too obvious? After all, fans are going to be annoyed if it's blatant misdirection, and it's entirely possible that Rey is turned (albeit briefly) or that she pretends to be in order to take down The Emperor. Interestingly, lightsabers like this were used by the Jedi Temple Guards in The Clone Wars, and her blades are as unstable as Kylo's.

Darth Vader's breathing can also be heard at this point, so make of that what you will...

In these two weeks we should get soon the full and final trailer. Afterwards it will be nonstop marketing. Bring it.

@NinnesMBC - Two weeks is the most optimistic scenario.

TLJ's 2nd trailer dropped on October 10th.

TFA's 2nd trailer, however, didn't drop until October 25th.

"End of the saga"

Where have I heard that before?

Just get this movie over and done with. The last of the three Skywalker Saga trilogies was ill-conceived ab initio and will, thankfully, be forgotten as time rolls by. Bring on the Mandolorian + Obi Wan TV shows.

We get it Disney, you're super excited that you ruined, killed and are about to bury beloved characters. They should have left the alone and gone their own way from the start instead of destroying the Skywalker legacy.

@inkniron - They should have had the new characters be secondary until the final minutes of the trilogy, but Disney just couldn't wait to push a female protagonist of all the established characters. And on top of that, the female protagonist was written horribly along with wide swats of the story.

I have more anticipation to see if Mike Zeroh got anything right from his 5 daily videos he drops! Hahah! That bastard is the only reason I am anywhere remotely excited due to a couple 'set leaks' and Ezra Bridger and Ahsoka Tano. I know he is going to let me down, but its the only thing keeping me 'excited'.

"If this doesn't get you excited to see the movie, nothing will"

Nothing will. It's more curiosity than anything that will put my ass in the seat. I wanna see if JJ can pull off any margin of wrapping up this lackluster trilogy. But I am not excited. I also wanna see if they go full Endgame and time-travel through the old sacred movies. People may walk out if that happens.

@BigMikeReviews - Exactly. The Hero's Journey ends with the son redeeming the father - not some rando bullshit with the uncle and the grandson staring at the father's old hat.

I don't know how these new films will age in relation to the rest of the 'saga', but whenever I see these something just doesn't feel right about it. It literally feels 'tacked on' and like things rightfully ended chronologically after Return of the Jedi.

Say what you will about the prequels but I really cared about Obi-Wan, Padme and yes even Anakin. I don't feel we've gotten the mileage they were expecting to get with these characters at all. The closest one to achieving anything like that is Kylo and even then, it doesn't really compare to the icons.

What purpose does Finn serve as a character? To teach a lesson that you shouldn't run away? That's who he is entirely as a person? Just when I thought they were going to seal that and have him sacrifice himself to save the rebellion, Rose crashed into his ship so she could kiss him as their friends get attacked with a death star laser. Aside from that, he's been injured by Kylo, Rose, been captured, and killed Captain Phasma, who I thought was already dead.

He likes Poe as a friend, he likes Rey as a friend, and it looks like he ended up with a newly introduced character. Where is there left for his story to go? It's just, remember how hyped we all were when John Boyega was announced for Force Awakens. The mystery leading up to that movie was much more interesting than the stuff we've been getting since it came out in my honest opinion.

@Reeds2Much - 8th if you count the animated Clone Wars movie.
You'd almost start to think there's no pleasing this fanbase

Am I the only one that would be satisfied down to the cellular level if Rey went dark, killed everyone and the bad guys won?
