Earlier this year, it looked like Lauran Cohan wouldn't be returning for the upcoming ninth season of The Walking Dead because AMC was refusing to pay the actress the same as her male co-stars. While negotiations were ongoing, she signed up to star in ABC pilot Whiskey Cavalier and that's since been picked up to series. As a result, she's now going to have to split her time between the two shows.

Now, in what could be a sign that she's going to be wrapping up her commitments to the zombie drama, it's been confirmed that Maggie is only set to appear in six of season nine's first eight episodes. It is, of course, common for those in The Walking Dead to skip an episode or two here and there but TV Line notes that it's currently unclear whether or not she'll appear in the second half of the season. 

Her future in the AMC series likely hinges on whether or not Whiskey Cavalier takes off but don't be too surprised if Maggie is the next character we have to say goodbye to after the shocking death of Carl in season eight. That's no doubt going to alienate a lot more viewers but the show's days of breaking ratings records appear to be behind it regardless. What do you hope comes next for this character?

Didn't even finish the last half of S8 after the Carl reveal that he'd die. It's sad, really, to see this show falter as much as it has. I have kept with it for so long, as all my friends thought I was crazy. But alas, I'm off the TWD ship. How is Fear TWD? Any good? Worth checking it out? ;)

@VicSage - I stopped watching TWD before the Negan story arc.

I started watching FTWD and I enjoy it. The first season and some of the second are at times tough to watch. But there are a few things that it has going for it:

1) So far, each season is vastly better than the previous one.

2) You get to see the outbreak from the start.

3) The character's encounter people, groups and locations that are very much south-western N. America. So it is a refreshing change of scenery.

4) The seasons are short, so there is little filler and you don't spend as much of your time watching it.

If this show was 20-some episodes, it never would have made it to season 2. But it's not, and if you can get to seasons 3 and 4, it's very worth it.

@TomSolo @rabid - See, you guys' opinions have me again at a crossroads. I'll check it out though because it is short. Not to mention, the clips I've seen show way better cinematography than what I've been seeing on TWD for a while now. Hopefully, that and some of the characters will hold me over.

@VicSage - it's better cinematography and more violence. But the acting is awful, the budget miniscule, and the characters are unlikeable. I watch it out of love for zombies, but reluctantly.

@VicSage - FTWD is great now. You really have to power through the first and some of season 2 for it to finally get good. Its a pretty short season so it shouldnt be too bad.

@rabid - Did you stop watching after the first or second season? The last 2 have been pretty damn good.

@Himura - No, I stuck with it. Once they left the city, it lost all its potential. The excitement of a new series was based in showing us the devolution of society, something that Walking Dead skipped over with Rick's coma. Once they burned through that, it became a chore. I've been attached to some of the characters, but the plot just meanders too much with no particular vision to advance it. At this point, I'd only stay interested if the gang could keep constantly traveling to new locations. But I think the budget will only allow for remote places. Just think how much more fun it could be if they showed Washington DC, Disneyworld, NYC, or even a zoo of zombified apes. I've grown tired of watching survivalists competing for resources in the desert.

Her southern accent is atrocious and she’s not a very good actress... can’t imagine anyone cares that she’s leaving the show. Right?

Yes because it's completely unheard of for people to star/appear in two shows at once *rolls eyes*

Considering both shows are on 2 different schedules I don't see it being an issue

And her appearing in 6 out of 8 episodes is probably more then she appeared in last year's first 8 episodes

There are many examples of actors/actresses appearing in 2 shows at once ..

The only way I'll turn back into this pile of donkey turd is if they kill every character. Every single one - except Rick and he turns into a savage zombie killing nut house. THen I'll tune in again.

Don't expect many people to tune into season 9. Season 8 ran off the last of the die hard fans.

From the Season Eight finale, seems like Daryl and Maggie are taking Dwight and Sherry's roles from the comics where Maggie will lead a revolt against Rick and kill herself in a freak accident in the process.

Maggie's character has gone downhill season Season Five as the writers haven't really known what to do with her and her arc of becoming a leader in the Hilltop was badly butchered. Lauren Cohan is a really good actress and deserves a lot better than how she's been poorly handled and paid by AMC so whilst I'm sad to see Maggie go, at least it'll be for the best.
