THE WALKING DEAD Spinoff Focusing On Jeffrey Dean Morgan's Negan & Lauren Cohan's Maggie In The Works

Yet another The Walking Dead spinoff show is in development at AMC, and this one will see Maggie (Lauren Cohan) and Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) join forces to explore The Isle of The Dead.

As The Walking Dead's final season continues on AMC, the network has announced that yet another spinoff show is in the works, and this one will focus on bitter enemies turned uneasy allies Negan Smith and Maggie Rhee.

Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Lauren Cohan will reprise their respective roles for the show, which is titled Isle of The Dead. The story will follow the pair as they explore a post-apocalyptic New York City.

“This is a very big day for the expanding universe we are building around The Walking Dead,” said Dan McDermott, president of entertainment and AMC Studios for AMC Networks. “It not only adds another compelling series to this collection, it extends our storytelling around two unforgettable characters fans have grown to love, hate or hate and then love in Maggie and Negan, brilliantly inhabited by Lauren and Jeffrey. It also lets us explore a corner of this universe located on the island of Manhattan, with an iconic skyline that takes on a very different meaning when viewed through the lens of a zombie apocalypse.”

It's certainly an intriguing premise. As any TWD fan will be aware, Negan brutally murdered Maggie's husband Glenn back in season 6, and although they have since formed an alliance out of necessity, their relationship remains volatile... to say the least.

Eli Jorné is on board as showrunner, while the series will be overseen by TWD Universe content chief Scott M. Gimple.

“Eli has created a chaotic, beautiful, grimy madhouse of the dead for Negan, Maggie, and fans of the show eager to discover an unseen and insane world of the TWD Universe,” said Gimple. “Lauren and Jeffrey have always been fantastic collaborators and now, we bring that collaboration to the next level with a series that will take these characters to their limits with the world — and each other. All of us are thrilled to take you on an all new, all different TWD epic for the ages.”

Another untitled spinoff focusing on Daryl (Norman Reedus) and Carol (Melissa McBride) is still in development (we now know of at least four characters who'll survive the series finale, anyway).

About 5 years too late, I am afraid.

This used to be an awesome TV show, but after the amazing Negan introduction, they slowly dropped the ball and I completely lost interest due to the amount of filler they put in.

Are they going to use Negan’s bat to keep beating this horse to pulp too?

Man, I haven't watched Walking Dead since Rick decided to spare Negan. I gave up when they let him live. I stopped caring and watching. And from what I heard the shows barely been interesting since.

But I swear to God, if this spin off sees Maggie and Negan fall in love or get together in any way, imma lose my shit. When Glenn died, this shows spirit died too. Don't desecrate Glenn's memory further!

@ElricReturns - Why are you going to lose your shit if you haven't seen it in a few years and haven't cared enough about the characters to keep watching?

@IronMan616 - the last sentence I wrote is a good indication.

Scott Gimple? The man who brought down TWD is still allowed within a mile of anything creative involving this show? LOL.

Another one..just let this shit die a good death. It hasn't been good a few years now. As much as I like the characters, the shows overstayed it's welcome.

We never getting that Rick Grimes movie are we?

I'm a bit confused. I stopped watching awhile ago. Why hasn't she killed him yet? Why are they the leads? Why hasn't she killed him yet?

@Crtdacct2say - because he has actually changed and became an invaluable member of the group while she was away. He's useful, so she decides to bide her time. Then they did form an uneasy alliance. She prob will try to kill him at some point.

@RorMachine - I don't watch the show anymore, but I was curious...is there any chance they could fall in love?

@WackyBantha - They worked together to get food for the group then he left the group stating that he believes Maggie will eventually try to kill him after he just witnessed her doing the same to others that surrendered and put their guns down. That was like 3 epeisodes ago and the last decent scene in the show, I'm quitting it now due to last couple episodes being complete garbage

This is like hall of fame player who doesn't want to hang em up, yet barely effective. Just end it already.

Hmmm, more and more I'm beginning to think Daryl's going to get Rick's comicbook fate. I mean they've been announcing these new spinoffs, they've been announcing the people that are going to be in the spinoffs, with this Negan and Maggie one, they officially announce it with a poster and and a name. With the "Daryl and Carol" one, all the did was mention it and that was it. I think it was just a red herring. my opinion.

@IronMan616 - Nope, Norman Reedus has nothing left at this point.

He's going to play Daryl Dixon to the grave and beyond.

@IronMan616 - maybe this one is just a more elaborate red herring.

I really think they should make "Isle Of The Dead" with new characters. Megan and Negan? This is beyond an "odd couple". I'm more interested in "Tales From The Walking Dead", I Think this is gonna be the TWD show I will love.

I have a family member that keeps saying Negan and Maggie are going to end up together, with this news it definitely seems like that will happen.

If that does happen, it will be interesting to see how Maggie forgives Negan and then marries him.

Feels like AMC trying to hold onto what made them relevant.....

I wanted to watch the final season purely because I've watched every other season up to this point, but I simply lost interest after the first two episodes of this second part and the fact that they're splitting the final season into three separate mini-season just feels like they're dragging it out. At this point, the show has literally been killed turned into a walker.
