The Future of Sara Lance on ARROW

The Future of Sara Lance on ARROW

Could Sara Lance return as a "big bad" in a few seasons or become the Jason Todd of the Arrow family? Here are my thoughts on what can happen...

Now that we have had time to let the death of Sara Lance, aka the Canary, sink in, here comes the ine
vitable how she can return editorial. After watching the final moments of Arrow’s season three premiere, I was left with a feeling of depression. I was depressed that one of my favorite characters was killed off, so here I am writing this article to help sooth the still painful wound of her death. So I have done some research and here are two possible ways that Sara could return for future seasons.

If anyone has kept up with the Future’s End comic run, you will know that there were some pretty major changes in Black Canary’s character. She still goes by the name Black Canary but she is now the head of the League of Assassin’s, which actually isn’t called that anymore. When she took over she changed the name to the Red League, which is made up entirely of women that they rescue from human trafficking.

We know that Ra’s al Ghul is the big bad this season on Arrow. About a week ago, Andrew Kreisberg or Marc Guggenheim said that this version of Ra’s would be more faithful to the comics, which means that he will more than likely have access to the Lazarus Pit. Lastly, we know Nyssa was very much in love with Sara. Now do you honestly think that if Nyssa has the opportunity to bring back Sara via Lazarus Pitt that she would pass it up? My money is on no. Also worth pointing out the last major character to be “killed” that had ties to the LoA (Malcolm Merlyn) came back like nothing happened. Did he take a dip in the pit?

This coul

ially be a big and interesting plot piece used for probably next season, maybe later this season. If team Arrow end up beating Ra’s at the end of the season then the League will be left without a leader and that is where Sara comes in. She said in the premiere that it wasn’t a bad life for her, or it was a life she chose for herself. Being the leader of the league along with Nyssa and changing it to fit her new vision would be a great way to do something that stays faithful to the new comics and also brings back a fan favorite character while also giving fans the real Black Canary, Laurel.

I’d also like to point out that when Oliver and gang were at the cemetery putting her casket in the grave, you actually do not see them put Sara in the casket. Maybe that is reading a little too much into it, or maybe something happened in-between when she died and going to the cemetery. Also this year sometime, the producers said that Sara would be in three episodes this season. At least that is what I think they said, could have been two or more. Now yes these could simply just be flashback scenes, or they are when she comes back to life at the end of the season setting up something big in season 4. Or they just said that to throw people off about her death, which is definitely plausible as well.

My second theory I actually got from a fellow fan page, The DC Entertainment Multiverse, so I give them credit for this one. In the comics there was a villain that went by the name White Canary. She was also an Asian character as well but what if the producers took some creative liberties and made Sara the White Canary and sort of made her a Jason Todd like character. You saw what the Pitt did to Jason when he came out so it would definitely be plausible if the same happened to Sara and she was the “Red Hood” of the Arrow family so to speak.

So what do you all think? Is Sara dead for good or is there a possibility that she will return in the future? Let me know what you think in the comments.

She was the equivalent to Dinah Drake Lance and her time as Canary...she is done...its been two episodes...

Bringing her back...just like bringing Tommy back would/will negate ALL the change their death causes (which is for the better)

But when Jason died it didn't negate any changes his death made. It isn't like he came back and became Robin again and kicked Tim out. So that is what can happen here, her death pushes Laurel to become Black Canary while Sara, like I said, could be come the red hood of the Arrow family.

As much as I would love her alive, she dead.

Doubt they'll use the pit to bring anyone to life. Not even Malcolm had that luxury, he had to do the ol' "slow down my heartbeat to achieve medical death status" trick.

What keeps ticking in the back of my brain is how Ra's will work as the main villain of the season. I mean, can anyone on Team Arrow keep up with him? If they lose, they're dead, it's not like he'll let them live.

@darthbatman93 Thats because Jason's death didn't cause any direct change except for Batman going darker....he went dark...and didn't want anymore Robins...Tim Drake negated that when he forced his way into the position...otherwise...nothing, so when Jason came back their was nothing to negate...

Sara's death pushes Oliver as we have already start to see, to make huge strives in becoming the "real" as some fans it Green Arrow (cocky, joking etc...) BUT emotional as well... This season is supposed to drive his emotional change

Just like Tommy's death drove his literal change from Killer to Hero/Vigilante that didn't kill

Sara's death is also a push for us to see Laurel take up the mantle and show some HUGE character progression solely based on her death...

Jason was killed because people didn't like him...and was brought back to shake things up...fans didn't riot when he returned for him to be Robin again...at this point in your speculation...the thought of Sara returning only hinders peoples believability in Laurel assuming the role of Black Canary

Her coming back has nothing to do with whether or not Laurel becomes Black Canary. Laurel is now going to take up the mantle and like I state, IF Sara came back, she would assume the role of a different character like White Canary or the leader of the Red League. She died, and her death served its purpose. These characters are on their way of becoming the things you state above. But if she came back in like season 6 for instance, her return is not going to reverse everything her death did. Laurel will still be Black Canary and oliver will still be a lighthearted and emotional hero.

@darthbatman93 reverse and negate mean two different things

Sara returning wouldn't undo Laurel becoming the Canary....it would just make her transition pointless in the eyes of the non-comic fans

just like Oliver's "I'm done killing" becomes pointless if Tommy comes back because it wasn't done 50% because of Tommy and 50% because of something else...it was 100% cause of Tommy just like Laurel's change is 100% because of Sara's death...

Sara isn't a White Canary...or a Red League leader.... we have never seen the writers deviate from source material that much with exception to "Ravager", but the leader of the Red League if anyone...is Laurel....

Sara is a take on Dinah Drake Lance...so that we didn't have to have weird flashback moments of Laurel's mom being a vigilante...they split her into Laurel's mom...and Laurel's sister

Sara becoming white Canary would be really no different than making Isabel the Ravager. Also making Sara the Red League leader is no different than making her the Canary in the first place. And if you ask me, Tommy and Sara are completely different characters. Bringing one back would be pointless while bringing Sara back could open up some cool stuff. As far as making Laurel's transition pointless, I disagree. Like I said, she died. It sparked the transition. Plus if she came back as a villain or anti-hero, it may even push Laurel more to become a better hero and try to help/save her sister.

I was never too fond of Sara, I liked Black Canary but Caity Lotz and Stephen Amell both need to take some acting classes. However.. as many of you hate Laurel, she is becoming one of the my favorite characters.

@darthbatman93 - Great article bro. I would like to see Sara return, I see no reason that she couldn't in say season five. It would be interesting to see what the Lazarus Pit does to Sara's mind. We know it messed with Jason's, so I would think the same would happen to hers.

As for people saying that there is no need to bring her back, I disagree. The reason why is, because it adds something different to the series. Seeing Sara return maybe as a villain and having Oliver and Laurel having to take her down would be interesting to watch. You would see how much of a toll it takes on them and would bring the two closer to getter. I just hope she returns and I personally think it adds another new plot twist.
