Jackie Earle Haley Talks Human Target And A Nightmare On Elm St

Coming off an Oscar nomination a few years back for Little Children and great critical praise for his excellent performance as Rorschach in Watchmen, Hayley looks to continue his roll with both the Nightmare On Elm St remake and his new TV show, Human Target. Unfortunately there's nothing about playing Sinestro in Green Lantern.

Q: Guerrero is a character that all geeks are going to love because he's the computer guy who is also the toughest guy in the room, which is really a cool combination. What did you think when you first read that character and when you first read that scene where you said, "I'm going to come back and kill you later"?

Jackie: I just thought it was a real interesting, fascinating character, especially in this action-hero world. He's definitely an unhinged character, and that always fascinates me. It's a really fun process, working with these guys, in terms of figuring out exactly where we are going with them. It's a neat process, as every week a couple more little layers come to be. It's fun developing and getting to add some multi-dimension with this guy.

Q: How do you relate to both halves of this character?

Jackie: I'm not much of a computer geek, and I'm also not a tough guy, so maybe I like to do things that are opposite of me. I don't know. For some reason, the characters I play are really nowhere near me. I'm pretty much an amicable guy that tries to avoid physical conflict. I am an avid exerciser. I've done a lot of karate stuff, but that's more for fun and for physical fitness. I'm not out trying to get into fights.

Q: Since he seems so mysterious, what do you know about Guerrero?

Jackie: We're figuring that out as we go. What fascinates me about this whole TV world is the dimension to the character, the history behind the character, who he is and where he's been. We're layering that on, over time. More is revealed to me and then to the audience, and it's a neat process. It's not into complete focus yet for me, but it's getting there. With every week, every script and every conversation with the directors and the writers, it starts to get a little bit more interesting and a little bit more in focus.

Q: Can you talk about the dynamic between you, Mark Valley and Chi McBride?

Jackie: We have a blast, or I know I do. Working with everybody is great, but when Chi and I have our scenes, some days together are pretty neat. We were just shooting a sequence in an airport at midnight, on Saturday night. We're still having a blast out there. It's a lot of fun. It's a great experience.

Q: Will he become much more a part of the group?

Jackie: I think he's still this independent guy. I don't think he necessarily works for the company, but he's around a bunch.

Q: Will he be the guy that people go to when they need something?

Jackie: Yeah, I think there's a bit of that.

Q: What's Vancouver like, to live and work in?

Jackie: I fell in love with Vancouver. I worked there a couple years ago. If I can ever afford to, I would love to do a second home there. I just absolutely love living there, and it's even more fun living there and working on the show.

Q: What do you like about it?

Jackie: I live in San Antonio, and I love San Antonio, but it's a different kind of thing. I'm from here, so maybe I'm used to mountains and the view, but it's got everything up there. It's a winter wonderland and a summer wonderland. It's everything from snow skiing to beautiful views, everywhere you go. There's hiking everywhere.

Q: What's the latest A Nightmare on Elm Street update? Have you finally settled on the voice for Freddy Krueger?

Jackie: We're still working on it. There's still more ADR stuff to do, so it's an ongoing process until it comes out. But, we did do some re-shoots over the Christmas holiday and I feel really good about that.

Q: Did you have you get back into make-up for it?

Jackie: Yeah, I was tortured all Christmas.

Q: What did you have to re-shoot?

Jackie: It was just some re-shoots and tweaks that are probably pretty customary for every movie that gets made.

Q: In the trailer, Freddy says, "I didn't do anything." Is that true, or is he lying?

Jackie: You know, you'll have to go see the movie and get the answer there. I'm not going there. Sorry.

Look at the size of Valley's head. It's not just me is it?

ROR @ Ya right on RORSCHACH lol, but HUMAN TARGET is in the DC Universe under the VERTIGO line dude!!

And not the SMALLVILLE one, anyway great stuff, cant wait for all of his stuff man!

Lol @ TEA!!

Yeah but Vertigo splits off into 2 universes. One runs along with regular DC like Sandman, Swamp Thing, Hellblazer etc, and they interchange and stuff, but they also do stuff like Human Target, The Losers, 100 Bullets. All of that is set outside of the regular DCU..no superheros in those stories!

hah, yeah Tea i remember thinking the same thing when i heard the title. It should be called "Massive [frick]ing head thats a target because its [frick]ing massive". Too much?

As for Human Target..I will give it a chance, I really
HOPE it's good..I heard nothing but GOOD things about
it. So I will watch and see!

It won't be as GOOD as SMALLVILLE..But hey at least

I'm really excited to see this interpretation of Nightmare. The preview looks to me like it goes to a darker place than any of the other movies went. Haley was the perfect choice for the new Freddy IMO. I think it will be amazing.

hah, well, same post 2 articles skyhook! You must feel very strongly about it. In a way your right actually, There is a lot of traffic on here both from visitors and contributors but thats a good thing imo. Look at places like..well, no names, but I'm sure you can use your imagination. Those places have maybe 3 new articles a day..maybe..and about 3 or 4 posts. Thats like a graveyard if you ask me. I would rather having to keep up than fall asleep. There is a problem with people posting multiple articles that are the same but we keep on top of it for the most part. All in all, like Pine said on the other article, nobody except you seems to find it a chore to nav the site..I respect your opinion on it, but unless there are more disgruntled folks, its probably not going to change too much.

@ Skyh00k: Those are some pretty lame complaints man, just sayin. It takes seconds to check the site, and it's easy as pie.

Back on topic: So Haleys on Human Target now? I had no idea! Cool. Man that dudes top shelf talent. If I had the time I might actually watch it, but I totaly don't. :(

It's gonna take ten acts of divine providence for me to even manage to make time for LOST next month. But I have to... no way around that one

LUFFY @ Bit like SLJ lol! ; D

SKYHOOK @ I do agree dude, well mainly on the multipule posts, it seems sometimes ppl dont care to check if the articles is already done or leaves theirs up, even if they can see right below them that its already been done. 9 times outta 10 i delete mine. The 10th time maybe ive had to get off the computer or something lol, but as for only regs doing them, dunno that kinda defeats the whole idea of what CBM.com stands for or is about, everyone should have a chance. Though i got no prob with a green room, even if im in it lol, though what exactly is that!? : P

I do think FAN-FIC is going out of control though,,,, me DDD, JOSH and a few others already see this, and as we take a lot of time and effort, (like others) much more so than any news, mainly because sometimes it takes weeks to complete, just to be pushed down the page sometimes in hours, for five minute jobs does kinda pi$$ ppl off. Fan-fic should be in 2-parts somehow?!

And having no fan castings etc in main ever is wrong, actual new users have said they have only joined up just to leave a comment, an in my book thats good, but oh well................ lol.

Still ain't right.

SKYHOOK @ Cool lol! ; P

ACCESS @ LMAO dude!!! ; D

DDD
DDD - 1/15/2010, 12:56 AM
That's right Leee@ this site is great 'cause
anybody can contribute to the news which allows
for more coverage of the CBM news!

Sometimes the news gets crowded on a real newsy
day but other times its a real snooze of a news
day and its nice to have someone put up some very
rare news story hardly anyone knows about to
brighten the slow day!

That way people from all around the world can contribute
something that's only privy to their
part of the world!

And , yes, Leee@ we have discussed the splitting
up of fanfic into two sections! One for small or
one person fancasts and one for long extensive
fancasts and large written stories!

I wish Galactus would do that, split fanfic into
two sections! It would help things out in fanfic
and lead to a more harmonious atmosphere in there!
LEEE777
LEEE777 - 1/15/2010, 1:22 AM
DDD @ Totally agree man, couldn't of put it better myself!!

I really don't get slow news days, and i might point out i remember the days HAWKS stories came on main, i loved that, so did a lot of ppl, but that just one example, some of the articles here, i don't get how they can get on main, well i think you might have a clue what ones, about nothing, and all that hard work in FAN-FIC is untouched, its a shame, a real shame, and i don't care if none of mine is never shown in main, seriously, theres a lot of stuff ppl will never see or know about because a lot only read the main page or have no idea it even exists!

More harmonious atmosphere in there, i like that man, good words!! ; D
MarkCassidy
MarkCassidy - 1/15/2010, 5:17 AM
So you guys want fanfic split into "People who put effort in"..and "Shit"? ..haha, sorry boys, I really don't think thats gonna happen. I appreciate you spend a lot of time on them and want them to be seen, but my God, you post a link to them on every article, people are gonna see them if they want to see them! It works the same way in news and even on the main. A great article can be pushed down in no time depending on the news flow, its just the way the cookie crumbles. Don't get me wrong, I do know how you feel. If I put a review in the review section its buried an hour later by 7,000 comic previews by Sora!(no offence Sora;)

Multi, that is pretty shocking. Are you sure that Fad isn't a jilted ex in disguise?? Cos thats some ex sounding scorn right there!
StephenStrange
StephenStrange - 1/15/2010, 7:15 AM
@ Multi: omfg bro... What is up with that dame?!? I don't believe this. "Paedo?" Nice. That's just swell.

Well I can see at this point that my theory was way way off. It just kind of reminded me of kindeegarten, and your out on the playground and some little bird takes a shining to you so she calls names or hits you to get attention.

Dude are you sure you don't know her or something... like in your private life?
It seems like this dealeo is about to go from weird and inexplicable to psycho and problematic. Also I just thought of something. She made reference to the fact that your a soldier. She used the word "arrogant" and mentioned Iraq. Could it be some kind of twisted anti America thing going on??
I know... I am grasping. I just can't help but remember thinking how cool it was that this hottie likes CBMs, and talking about em like a reglar joe. That's one more thing that seems to set this site apart and makes it unique... there's a real over abundance of exceptionally hot fan gurls that post and comment here. That's awesome.
So anyway MPP I am wondering how do you intend to proceed? I mean nobody should be sending anyone nasty e mails, ESPECIALLY editors. IS there anything you can do?
StephenStrange
StephenStrange - 1/15/2010, 8:02 AM
But... I don't want my voice to be hurt lol

@ Multi: Cool. I guess. I mean sometimes I sort of wish this place was at least a little more moderated.
Just to keep the riff raff out lol.
Like that asshole yesterday. I don't care what he does, but how whacked and out of touch does someone have to be to mess with TEA?? The guy that's always trying to make us laugh. Always fun and upbeat and amiable.
There are far better targets here than THAT ONE. What if Teabag had decided to quit using the site because of that? Then you would have a bad guy driving off a good guy. That just can't be right.
And Galactus is a force of nature. A higher life form. He doesn't know what it's like to be an ordinary user lol

Poni

That's not cool at all bro. I don't care how much of an asshole you think someone is, you don't wish that kinda shit on someone's kids. Growing up without a father is something that can never be replaced. I thought it was funny at first that she hated on you so badly, but this is outta hand. I know we've had our share of back and forth, but you've always kept it above board. So I don't know where this spoiled little girl gets off? Maybe she doesn't, and that's her problem.

Anyway, thanks for protecting our interests. Not sure I've ever said that to you. Plenty of people can talk it, but to actually put it on the line is another matter. Respect to you for doing what most others (myself included) won't. Cheers fk face!

It started when you were in the hospital getting your back did. Dunno why it started... I think it was Poni boy's mock CBM awards. Shame you missed that. Maybe your brilliant levity could've saved us! ^_^ Glad you're back (pardon the pun)

@ Tea: Don't sweat it bro. It will pass. This is just a rough patch.
I am glad your back too. To tell you the truth I was really worried! A whole lot of us did not know about your surgery. It just seemed like you were gone, and then like Billy said all this fighting broke out with FAD and LEEE with their panties all in an uproar.

And there's always a fresh crop of users that come in, with a bunch of angst and trouble. They rarely stick around. "This too shall pass" as they say l
