LANTERNS Max Series Rumored To Be Eyeing Q1 2025 Shoot; Casting For John Stewart & Hal Jordan Underway

Following James Gunn's official announcement, we have some rumored updates on the Lanterns series that's currently in development for the Max streaming service...

Late last month, DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn officially announced members of the creative team he'd assembled for the long-awaited Green Lantern Max series, which will be titled Lanterns.

We'd learn that Emmy Award-winning Lost and Watchmen creator Damon Lindelof will work on the pilot script along with previously reported (but not confirmed) Ozark showrunner Chris Mundy and acclaimed comic book writer Tom King

“Yes, it’s true. The Lanterns DCU series is putting together a crack team of writers, based on a wonderful pilot script and bible by Chris Mundy, Tom King, and Damon Lindelof,” Gunn captioned his social media posts. “A hearty welcome to Chris and @damonlindelof as they join the DC Studios family.”

We had been told to expect more writers to be announced, and according to Nexus Point News, Justin Britt-Gibson, Breannah Gibson and Vanessa Baden Kelly are on board. The site also reports that production is currently set to commence in Q1 of 2025 in the United Kingdom, potentially putting the show on track for a 2026 release.

Casting is said to be underway for the leads, with DC searching for White actors between 43–49 years old for Hal Jordan and Black actors between 27–35 years old for John Stewart. This would line up with previous reports that Jordan will be a mentor to the younger, less experienced Stewart.

Nathan Fillion's Guy Gardner, who will make his debut in Gunn's Superman reboot, is expected to have a supporting role in the series.

An earlier Green Lantern TV series was in the works before Gunn and Peter Safran took over as co-heads of DC Studios. That version was created by Greg Berlanti and would have starred Finn Wittrock as Guy Gardner.

Hal Jordan was previously played by Ryan Reynolds in the infamous 2011 Green Lantern movie.

"This is a story of a couple of Green Lanterns John Stewart and Hal Jordan," Gunn said of the project when it was first announced. "We have a few other Lanterns peppered in there but this is really a terrestrial based TV show which is almost like True Detective with a couple of Green Lanterns who are space cops watching over Precinct Earth in it they discover a terrifying mystery that ties into our largest story of the DCU."

What do you make of these updates? Any casting picks for Stewart and Jordan? Be sure to drop us a comment down below.

@harryba11zack - I actually do like Tyrese a lot. Was rewatching the Transformer movies last week and I really love his character. If they do merge Transformers with G.I. Joe I would like to see his him return

They seriously need to watch Bruce Timm's 1 season of the animated Green Lantern series. Best Green Lantern thing I've ever seen. Heck, I dang near cried on the last episode.

All of the ring colors need to be slowly/methodically added in during this new MAX series.

It's gonna be expensive to produce and difficult to do so many stories. But, dang....do I hope they pull this off.

Given that this site was the one that broke Lindelof being involved in the show , i could buy this being true aswell…

There goes my Glen Powell dreams but it was a long shot anyway.so my picks for Hal now are either John Krasinski (44) or David Giuntoli (43)

Damson Idris (32) for John Stewart

Granted they could cast someone under or over the age range for these characters but seems unlikely

@TheVisionary25 - being that they dropped the ball on casting John Krasinski as Reed Richards, seeing him as Hal Jordan would be epic. For John Stewart, i wouldn't mind seeing Chosen Jacobs. I know he is younger than the 27-35 age range they are looking for, but I think he would be good. Keith Powers might be a good choice also.

@fosdog - I would have liked to have seen Krasinski as the main Reed since I thought he did well with the little he had in MoM but I’m intrigued by Pedro aswell

Why isn't this movie?! I'm not interested in watching them do drama in a True Detective rip-off and talk about their feelings while they stretch out the run-time to fill the episode count. I want an action thriller movie with 2 awesome characters kicking butt and fighting a cool villain or 2. And WTF is with pitching True Detective type shows with DC and Disney SW now?!

@Godzilla2000Zer - he would have been good too but I think he’s in his 50’s now.
