Len Wiseman Will Direct LUCIFER Pilot; Show Being Set Up As A Police Procedural

Deadline has confirmed the news that Fox has given the green light to proceed with their Lucifer TV series, but by the sounds of things this will differ drastically from the comic on which it's based.

We'd heard the Lucifer pilot had been commissioned, and now Deadline confirm that Fox and Warner Bros. TV have reached a deal to bring the Neil Gaiman-created character to the small screen. The pilot will be directed by Len Wiseman (the Total Recall remake, Underworld, various other crap), who will also executive produce along with Tom Kapinos, Jerry Bruckheimer and Jonathan Littman. The original logline for the show was pretty similar to the comic series, and had Lucifer growing tired with his infernal responsibilities and relocating to LA where he opened an exclusive piano bar called Lux. Now it seems it's "undergone an evolution toward a police procedural", with Deadline adding that the character will "gets his kicks helping the LAPD punish criminals." Does this have a hope in Hell of being good? Let us know what you think in the usual place.

People keep saying that the general public is going to be done with comic book media soon, bullshit. There are 10+ cops shows on television right now and the public hasn't turned their back on them.

If there is any category of entertainment that is going to bite the bullet soon, it's cops shows/films.

Wow Fox and Warner Bros sure are cooperative when it comes to the TV realm. Wonder if there'll be any other comic book adaptations on the small screen from these two.

Then again, Gotham seems to do just fine by doing the occasional procedural.

I don't think so, since
Supernatural, Scifi, Fantasy has been around for quite a while.
^Gotten so popular that they've even permeated into tween sitcoms.

ALMOST HUMAN was a great show. sure, it had a lot of procedural stuff, but that wasnt the point. the procedural stuff was just a handy medium for the actual story they wanted to tell, a bitter cop who learns about his own humanity by working with someone who technically is incapable of it.

perhaps thats the angle they're trying to work with Lucifer, but i don't think anyone is interested in watching him struggle to cope with himself. he is a chaotic neutral, morally-driven introspection isnt in his job description.

i feel like fox is just playing catch up, cramming a bunch of comics into their roster in the hope of recreating enough marvel awesomeness to cover their failures. time will tell, i suppose.
