Peacemaker is not exactly the type of guy to keep his mouth in check, but it seems one insult, in particular, ruffled a few feathers (no Eagly pun intended) at Warner Bros.
In the upcoming fourth episode of James Gunn's The Suicide Spinoff, Christopher Smith (John Cena) gets into an argument with his father's elderly neighbour after he insists that Peacemaker is not a superhero because he kills his foes and doesn't have a cadre of bad guys like Batman. Smith then calls the Dark Knight a p*ssy for refusing to put his enemies down for good even when they deserve it.
It's a funny scene, and Smith actually makes a few astute observations about the iconic hero, but it clearly didn't sit well with everyone at DC. "I was very surprised, because they were not too fond of Peacemaker calling Batman a p---y," Gunn revealed during an interview with TV's Top 5 Podcast. "I'm like, 'But he talks about all these other terrible things about all these other superheroes that are much worse than calling Batman a p---y.'"
"Not only that, Batman is the only one he makes a fair point about," he continues. "Everybody else he's really just believing stuff that he read on the Internet. Everything that he believes is kind of nonsense, and Batman is the only one he has a point of view on that makes any sense whatsoever."
Peacemaker insists that Aquaman... umm, "sleeps with the fishes" in the first episode, and also has a few rather outrageous things to say about Superman. So, what was it about the Batman scene that was perceived as being a step too far? Gunn has no idea!
"I don't know," responded the director when asked why DC was so bothered by the line. "You’d have to ask them. I don't know why him calling Batman a p---y is potentially more offensive than him saying Superman [has a poop fetish]. I don't understand why one was brought up and one wasn't."
