PENNYWORTH Story Details Shed Some Light On This Very Different Take On Batman's Butler - SPOILERS

Earlier today, we told you about some details revealed in audition tapes for Pennyworth but a plethora of new plot details have now surfaced and these shed a lot more light on the bizarre adaptation...

It's looking more and more like Epix's Pennyworth series will be a Gotham prequel as more details about the show have now been revealed by That Hashtag Show. Apparently, the show is going to shoot in the UK and will pick up with Alfred when he's in his mid-20s and trying to find his place in the world after leaving the SAS where he ran a number of highly classified missions for the British government.

It's said that "Alfred is trying to reconcile the kind-hearted boy he once was with the ruthless killer he was forced to become" while also trying to reconcile with his father, a proud and stubborn butler known as Mr. P, who, along with his wife, has spent his life serving a wealthy family (something he has always hoped his son would do). It's said that Thomas Wayne will play a major role in Pennyworth and Alfred will become allied with Bruce's father through his work for a private security company.

What brings Wayne to London? Apparently, he's trying to find his sister and "Wayne is said to be intelligent, deeply moral and idealistic, characteristics that Alfred will come to
instill in Thomas’s orphaned son." Joining these two will be Trinidadian Marcus "Bazz" Barrington and Scotsman Wallace "Dave Boy" MacDuff, two characters I'm pretty sure have actually been created solely for the show.

So, who will be the show's villains? The Raven Society. "Led by the mysterious Lord Hardwood and his sadistic henchwoman, Bet Sykes, the Raven Society will find themselves in what sounds like a
season long game of cat-and-mouse with our heroes after Sykes abducts a dancer by the name of Esme Whitaker. The heroes will battle Hardwood and the corrupt London police force in an effort to rescue Whitaker and will have to come to trust one another to do so." That doesn't sound too bad, right?

This sounds like it would have worked as a flashback filler episode of Gotham, not a whole damn series.

This sounds good to me... just not as a weird stand-alone Alfred prequel story. Make it an original show and I'd probably watch.

@Nebula - I guess Batman fans out of genuine interest in the character and mythos. It warrants a first episode look at least.

Other than that, idk.

I used to try to watch at least the first and second episode of new CB shows to see if I'm interested. There's way too many now to keep up. This is going on the list of shit not to try along with Krypton, Black Lightning, Runaways, Cloak and Dagger, JJ season 2, LC season 2, Lucifer, American Gods, The Gifted, Legion, etc.

"deeply moral and idealistic, characteristics that Alfred will come to instill in Thomas’s orphaned son."

Umm....I wouldn't describe Batman as idealistic. And in some cases, I wouldn't describe him as moral.

I think they confused Batman with Superman.

Really looking forward to the training montage as he learns butler skills: picking up the tray, making the bed, wiping on & wiping off all to the music of Black Sabbath.

Seriously though, how will they advertise this? Learn the origin of none of Batman's butler doesn't quite scream watch me.

I really hope each episode is titled after cleaning products.

I reeeeally hope this is a Gotham prequel. Sean Pertwee is the best live action Alfred, better than Michael Caine tbh.
