PENNYWORTH Unveils First Official Look At RIPPER Actor Jack Bannon As The Young Alfred

Epix has revealed the first official promo still for Pennyworth, giving us a look at Jack Bannon (Ripper, The Imitation Game, Endeavor) as the younger incarnation of the man who will one day become Batman's most trusted ally.

Described as "honest, open-faced and witty; you’d never take him for an SAS killer. Alfred doesn’t know how to reconcile the kind-hearted boy he used to be with the cold, calculated killer he was forced to become."

It's safe to say this will be a very different take on the classic DC Comics character than we're used to seeing.

We still don't know a whole lot about this R-rated origin story, but it has been confirmed that Alfred will team-up with Thomas Wayne to form a security company in 1960s London. No established Batman baddies will appear, but the show is expected to feature "archetypal villains and classic villains of British literature."

What do you guys think of this first look at Jack Bannon as Pennyworth? Drop us a comment down below.

If this show is supposed to be a prequel to Gotham (still not sure if it is, seen conflicting comments), then this guy's morph into Sean Pertwee's Alfred seems far-fetched.

While I'm on the topic... Sean Pertwee's Alfred is excellent.

@HeavyMetal4Life - Welly they said its set 20 years before Gotham so probably the same universe, this guy turning into Sean Pertwee isnt anymore far fetched than a lot of other prequel casting

@dracula - ehh, I'm not seeing it. Especially with a 20 year time difference. And since when has Gotham existed in the 80s? It has modern technology in the show.

Anyone else think he looks like Marl Ellis from The Schmoes Know?

Not that it makes sense for a young Alfred to have a stache, but it's kind of sad that the only live action Alfred to ever rock one was from Batman '66.

@THEDARKKNIGHT1939 - Hopefully he grows a stache

I don't think I'm ready for an Alfred TV show. Maybe if they did a prequel about Alfred's maternal grandparents first, then work up to Alfred.

@Spock0Clock - Alfred actually has an interesting backstory to tell, and its rarely explored
