Rick Cosnett Teases Eddie Thawne's Return To THE FLASH And His Desire To Play A Villain

After his noble sacrifice at the end of season 1 of The CW's The Flash, we thought we saw the last of Eddie Thawne. As it turns out, season 3 of the show just might hold some surprises...

Rick Cosnett's Eddie Thawne was the subject of a lot of speculation over the course of The Flash's run on The CW. Many predicted in the first season that Eddie would go on to become the Reverse Flash, only for the character to kill himself to stop his future descendant and true Reverse Flash, Eobard Thawne. With Eddie's dead body being sucked into a hole in time, further speculation from fans asserted that the character somehow survived to become season 2 baddie Zoom, but that, too, was debunked, with Eddie remaining dead (though the character appeared briefly during an episode involving time travel).

In an interview with Comicbook.com, Cosnett expressed his willingness to live up to expectations by playing a villain, especially after playing the morally grounded Eddie. “I mean, there’s nothing better than playing someone who’s a little bit evil and who you’ve seen where he comes from.” the actor said. “I think that’s what was exciting about Eddie. We’ve seen him be so good, and when you see someone turn evil through jealousy…you know, we’ve all got this bad and evil side. Eddie really just chose to constantly be good. He always rose above everything, and he never really got jealous. He was such a good man in that sense. From that, to have someone so diabolically evil would be so exciting and so cool to be able to play.”

As for whether Eddie could ever return to The Flash permanently, it seems like it may happen sooner than a lot of people expected. "Definitely...definitely," Cosnett said when asked. "I can't say exactly where, but there is definitely a big chance that I could be in this new timeline, you'll have to wait and see."

Would you like to see Eddie become a villain? Let us know in the comments.

I never really liked this character. He was just too nice. And the way the actor played it made it seem phony, so I was convinced for ages that Eddie would turn out to be an asshole at some point.

@Boyle360 - I see where you're coming from but I think that was the point of the character. He was meant to be this perfect guy that was with Iris instead of Barry and Barry couldn't hate him because he was so nice.

@Boyle360 -

I watched Quantico, well Priyanka Chopra was in it, and he played a character who was a bit of an idiot in it.
Like face punching annoying.

@SimplyAz - Lol! I was happy when his character "left" Quantico.

Priyanka is so freaking gorgeous! Stopped watching it though.

@PrincessLeather -

Lol.
A hard show to watch, shame as it had potential.
I skipped about 4 episodes until the finale, probably not going to watch season 2

This shows a mess this season. Everyone either a hero with powers or a villain with powers. The flash himself isn't special anymore. Jessie quick pretty much runs as fast as he does and so does all of his villains. They really need to change it up and kill some of the team off and introduce a more interesting bad guy and get away from this everyone's a speedster crap.

@micvalpro - Glee is a mess. Everyone is either a singer or a dancer. Will Schuester isn't special anymore. Finn Hudson pretty much sings and dances as well as he does and so do all of the rivals. They really need to change it up and kill some of the team off and introduce a more interesting rival and get away from this everyone's a singer crap.

@MonsieurClunge - Does anyone actually, really die and stay dead in the comics, aside from the ones who were murdered at The Bar With No Name, for the most part?
