Grant Gustin first played Barry Allen in Arrow before racing into his own series, The Flash, in 2014. The show and character have since been a staple on The CW, but that run comes to an end next year with its ninth and final season.
Many fans are understandably disappointed, but the Arrowverse is nearing its end (Legends of Tomorrow and Batwoman were cancelled earlier this year). The hope now is that The Flash will go out on a high, even with a truncated final season consisting of only thirteen episodes.
Taking to Instagram this weekend, Gustin shared his thoughts on The Flash's conclusion.
"This week, we announced that season nine of The Flash will be the final season, which is bittersweet," the actor says. "It's been an incredible nearly ten years of playing this character and getting to be a part of this show with an amazing cast and crew, and so much love from you guys - from the fans, people who love the show."
"It's the only reason we've got to do this as long as we have. And I'm very excited to do this one final time, finish on our terms, and I'm going to enjoy every minute of it as much as I can," Gustin continues. "I wanted to say thank you from the bottom of my heart for supporting the show and allowing us to go as long as we have and I could not be more honoured to be associated with this character probably for the rest of my life and career."
There have been rumblings for the past few years that Gustin is looking to move on from The Flash. While many fans would like to see him replace Ezra Miller as the big screen Scarlet Speedster, that doesn't look likely and we're just pleased to hear that the show is going out on its own terms.
Some of the other Arrowverse TV shows haven't been that lucky, so this Fastest Man Alive getting a proper conclusion to his story will be welcomed.
