On April 2, it was reported that The Flash actor Logan Williams had passed away, and his mother Marlyse Williams has now revealed that her son died of a fentanyl overdose following a three-year battle with addiction. 67,367 people died of opioid overdoses in 2018 according to the most recent stats released by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

"His death is not going to be in vain," Williams's mother vowed in an interview with The New York Post. "He’s going to help a lot of people down the road." She also reflected on what led to him turning to drugs. "He really, really enjoyed the acting. I know there’s a stigma of child stars, but he was not a star. He was up and coming."

Eventually, auditioning became "way too stressful," and at 13, he took a break from acting. However, it was around that time Marlyse discovered he had started using marijuana.

Over the next three years, she did everything she could to help Logan, going so far as to remortgage her home to send him to an expensive treatment center. Last summer, he was sent to another facility in British Columbia, and was living in a group home at the time of his death.

"I did everything humanly possible — everything a mother could do," she says. "I did everything but handcuff him to me to try to keep him safe." The last time she saw her son was on March 30 when they cooked his favorite meal together. "He said to me, ‘Mom, I’m gonna get clean. I’m going to get better. And I want my new life to start.’ I just know the last thing we said to each other was, ‘I love you.'"

It's a tragic story, and the only good thing that may come out of it is a raised level of awareness surrounding the opioid crisis which led to Williams' untimely death.

I'm just sitting here wondering how a 13 year old kid got his hands on fentanyl

Addiction? Wasn't he a little too young? Gotta wonder what sort of parenting leads to this.

@RageDriver2401 - You'd be surprised how a couple of outings with friends can lead to crazy things.

@Highflyer - bruh dude got into weed at 13, I couldn't hide my friggin report card from my mum at that age. All this sounds crazy negligent.

@RageDriver2401 - I'm not saying everything was handled perfectly but there's a chance he wasn't using at home when he started using. Every seemingly "innocent" visit to a friend's house could have ended up as another marijuana session. Not saying that's how it went down, just saying it could be the case.

@RageDriver2401 - 1) weeds got nothing to do with him using opiates

2) thinking this is his parents fault is crazy you think they’d knowingly just let their teenage son abuse drugs

@RageDriver2401 - Smoking weed at 13 = negligent parenting? What about wine in Italy and France? What about pints in the UK? How old do kids try those things in these places?

It’s not your fault, but stigmatizing cannabis as dangerous while it’s health effects are much less than alcohol or tobacco make kids hide it away from their parents and society. Thus plugging them in to a network of criminals. Legalize and educate Bruh!

Marijuana at 13 and fentanyl at 16? Under their watch? How?

Well that was unexpected. A tragedy, nonetheless.

More people die from other people trying to cure marijuana use than marijuana use.

That's really sad.
But I gotta say, how did his parents let it get to this level at so young an age?

Marijuana is not a gateway drug, prescription medication is. Kids have easy access to drugs in the medicine cabinet at home.

Very sad to see someone so young pass away, this is why I've never gone near any sort of stuff that could cause addiction I've seen too many lives wasted because of it! RIP :(

Gone way too soon. I love cannabis as much as anyone but 13 year olds should not be smoking that early unless it’s for medical reasons. I hope this family can find some kind of peace.

Fentanyl is a strong drug and getting the right dosage for an adult is difficult enough; I can't begin to imagine what it would take to get the right dose for a 16 year old, anesthetics are hard drugs to get right. Presuming he got a prescription of course, rather than getting them from a dealer (who likely doesn't know enough about dosages).

RIP Logan

A part of me thinks we didn't need this article posted here. Last thing a grieving mother wants is to be judged. But she did speak on it herself so I guess it's fine.

It is crazy to have a drug addiction at 13 honestly.

Is everyone forgetting to realize how easy it is to get introduced to drugs when working in the entertainment industry, even at his age?

And hell, growing up in LA myself its not out of the ordinary for kids to start smoking weed and even cigs at 13. Sure it happens less often but it still happens.

It sounded lke she did do everything to try to help him, but you can't stop someone else's bad decisions. I know this because my half-brother died of the same thing.
