THE FLASH's Upcoming Season 9 Could Be Its Last (With A Smaller Episode Count Than Usual)

With Jesse L. Martin looking to move on from playing Joe West in The Flash, a new report claims that the confirmed ninth season of The CW series could be its last, albeit with a truncated episode count...

The Hollywood Reporter reveals that Jesse L. Martin has started making plans to move on from The Flash after signing a deal to star in NBC's The Irrational. The actor has landed a lead role in the pilot that's based on Dan Ariely's Predictably Irrational, but what does that mean for Joe West?

According to the trade, Martin will reprise the role for the previously announced ninth season of the long-running CW show, but he will no longer be a series regular. He will still appear in multiple episodes, but it doesn't sound as if we should expect to see much more of Barry Allen's father figure.

The same could be the case for The Flash itself, as it's been revealed that, "While no formal announcement has been made, sources say there has been talk of the series coming to a conclusion with an abbreviated final season." In other words, the ninth season could be its last, though that's not entirely unexpected.

Grant Gustin only recently signed a deal to be part of a ninth season that's been widely rumoured to be The Flash's final run, and Arrow also wrapped up with a shorted-than-usual final batch of episodes.

Martin probably isn't the only actor looking to move on from the Arrowverse, but Gustin might not be done quite yet. Amidst reports that Warner Bros. is putting all of Ezra Miller's future projects on hold, the actor has been trending worldwide on social media as fans make it clear they would like to see him take over as the Fastest Man Alive on the big screen.

I stopped watching Flash, Supergirl and Legends after the Crisis. The only one that I finished was Arrow.

Make another show with the OG Wally, give it a Superman & Lois kinda treatment with Gustin as a recurring character.

I still fondly remember the first season.

get a new showrunner

get rid of chester and allegra and killer frost

take the show back to basics, just barry and a small team taking on reverse flash

Nine seasons of trash stories, trash acting and trash costumes. Where does the time go?

@OldMan - first two seasons were great. Season 3 and 4 was okay. The rest is crap

@OldMan - nothing but facts. DC fanboys are in denial. It's 70% of the whole reason idgaf when they start nitpicking content from Marvel or other studios. Supporting this trash shows pure bias. It's impossible to legit like this 2 dolla tripe and hate other shows

Nice long run if true. Like all the Arrowverse shows, this one had its ups and downs, but those first couple season were amazing at the time they came out.

So glad the shoe is on the other foot this time around. I can remember when DC had the better TV shows and cartoons years back. Marvel had the cheaper stuff its fanbase had to deal with.

Now Marvel is polishing all diamonds while DC is polising nothing but turds. The simple fact DC fanboys in thread are asking for new showrunners and other CW updates shows that they have become accostum to the lowest of the low. Anything other than asking for the of end this crap simply isn't an accurate assessment.

CW is ONLY embarressing and cheapining the brand. DC is being cannabolized by horse s***!

@dracula - "these were better than last years mcu shows"

Says the biggest DC fanboy on the site.😂😂😂 weren't you the one defending WW84 tooth and nail a year ago😂😂😂

But anyway there's a lot i want to say about the quality and difference in those shows and cartoons but i'll let it slide. Lol

@Dope21 - most positive thing i ever said about 1984 is that it was nothing special and left no impression. if that's "defending" then yes. Not once did I ever call it good.

Either way that has literally nothing to do with these shows. Majority of the arrowverse has gone to shit but each show is independent of each other. no year of the arrowverse has every been bad for all shows or good for all shows

What If... has some nice animation and art but beyond that its pretty mediocre. some great episodes, some terribly rushed episodes

@dracula - What if was AMAZING! i didn't just watch it i felt it. Exceeded all expectations. I went in super critical to becuase i don't like cgi animated shows. The combat and movement always seems floaty. Not in What if though. Everything was on point. AAAA animation and stort telling. After watching i knew DC fanboys would be in fear, nitpicking it to death trying to stick with the brand DC has better animation. You jokers did not dissapoint😂😂 Crying like babies trying to pretend What if is ruining your childhood.

But anyway DC has burnt me to many times. The only DC project i've seen in it's entirety in the last few years is the Batman. Big mistake. Had to force myself through it. My theater was dead as hell. And this is shit vision for the character. DC is once again off my radar. My preffered studio is feeding me to well and to right to frequently to have force down DC's bad taste.

The only thing DC can do for me is start over. Cancel everything. Let The Batman trilogy run it's course. Let the remaining franhises like Aquaman(which is trash) finish their runs then shut it down.

Burn the CW with fire. Once all that is done they need to start over with a new AAA HBOMAX shared universe. Rebooting Batman, Superman and the whole league. No more 2 dolla tripe. Same actors need to cross TV and film. Put the rebooted HBOMAX Batman in the movies. A new trilogy. Give the new Flash a trilogy. Give the rest of the league HBOMAX series. When it's time for the JL give them a movie. All JL content movie theater only.

Take their time. Plan the whole thing out. That is literally the only thing DC could do for me to regain any intrest. Real talk. If they announced a new big budget HBOMAX shared DCU i'd watch every bit of it.

Shit quality across the board killed their brand. And any shining spots they could have is drowned out by the the fact my preffered studio is feeding me to well while sitting on top of the world

@Dope21 - has nice looking animation, thats it. Only had like 3 truly great episodes. Marvel has had better written shows in the past than what they gave us in what if season 1. "ruining childhood", wow you love to exaggerate. if its something you dont like, saying its mediocre is defending it, if its something you do like, saying its mediocre is crying about something.

Well you lost all credibility on recently created DC stuff, you pretty much admit you havent seen any of it. like i said most of the cw shows have become crap, but cant ignore superman and lois, star girl and the quality stuff they have on hbomax, sweet tooth on netflix and upcoming stuff like sandman
