The Live-Action TITANS TV Series From WB And DC Entertainment Will Not Be At SDCC

WB and DC Entertainment have confirmed the TV shows they're bringing to this year's SDCC and the live-action Teen Titans series set to debut on the DC Universe streaming platform is a notable absence.

Here are the shows Warner Bros. Television will be holding panels for at SDCC 2018:
  • Arrow
  • The Flash
  • DC's Legends of Tomorrow
  • Supergirl
  • Black Lightning
  • Gotham
  • Young Justice: Outsiders
Notice anything missing?

The live-action Titans series that was thought to be a flagship title for the DC Universe streaming platform is conspicuously absent.  Developed by Akiva Goldsman, Geoff Johns, and Greg Berlanti, Titans was previously confirmed to premiere some time in 2018.  The show's apparent lack of a presence at SDCC now paints a cloudier future.

Originally in development at TNT back in 2014, the network passed on the project.  It was subsequently resurrected in April 2017 for the new DC Entertainment digital streaming service.

Brenton Thwaites stars as the lead character of the show, Dick Grayson aka Robin/Nightwing.  Joining him are  Anna Diop (Starfire), Teagan Croft (Raven), Ryan Potter (Beast Boy), Alan Ritchson (Hawk), Mika Kelly (Dove), Curran Walter (Jason Todd) and Conor Leslie (Donna Troy).

Previously, details on the Young Justice: Outsider SDCC panel were released by WB, CLICK HERE to read them.

Beast Boy's original superhero family, the Doom Patrol will also appear and will be receiving a spinoff TV series at a later date.

Probably not ready. The backlash from the set photos probably influenced the decision as well.

@DillyDilly - Why single out black actresses?

@DillyDilly - since when? Jennifer Lawrence is the only actress I'm aware of, and she is far from black.

That sucks, I'm really anxious to see where its quality lies in the grand scheme of things. What's the point of announcing up to 7 shows on your streaming service and only showing off one at the biggest comic book event, that's just such a pointless tease to me.

Hawk and Dove seem like the strongest elements of this show to me (Thwaites looks good in the costume, but I'm not sure he's as strong a performer).

It was looking so strong for so long, it's surprising how quickly it lost that momentum. Being so eager to spin off Doom Patrol should be a good sign, but what if it's because Titans isn't clicking and Doom Patrol is Plan B to keep the streaming service afloat?

@grif - Same, I'm hoping they won't try to make things exclusive for their streaming service. Plus I have the first two seasons on Blu-Ray, it would be nice to add the third one to my collection =D

@Ha1frican - Well...

The problem is that we want to legally support the show. If a lot of people outright pirate the show through illegal websites, then what chance does the show have in getting more episodes, let alone more seasons?

I was bummed when this series was cancelled after two seasons because of a stupid reason (toys selling poorly), and don't want the show to be cancelled again so soon after another dumb decision. I want to see this revival do so well that we don't just get one more season (or a few more episodes), I want to see this become an ongoing series with (possible spin-offs). It might be ridiculous, but I think it would be cool to see this series last till ten seasons. They have so many stories to pull from the comics (and original ones writers could make up) the possibilities with this show are endless.

I had a better written, and much shorter response...

However, for some reason the post didn't go through so there is my new reply to both of your comments =P

SDCC is not what it once was. Studios used to scramble to put a panel together for the fans and media. Now, studios will just skip SDCC if it doesn't fit their schedules.

@ymk700 - True, or in Marvel's case...

Outright skip it for their (or new owner's) own convention.

I think they just want Teen Titans Go to the Movies to be the focus next month.
