Game of Thrones is an American medieval fantasy television series created for HBO by David Benioff and D. B. Weiss. Based on author George R. R. Martin's best-selling A Song of Ice and Fire series of fantasy novels, the first of which is called A Game of Thrones, the television series debuted in the U.S. on April 17, 2011. The production is based in Belfast, Northern Ireland, with additional locations elsewhere in Europe also being used. The show's cast is mainly British and Irish.

Highly-anticipated since its early stages of development, Game of Thrones was very well received by fans and critics. The series was picked up for a second season on April 19, 2011, two days after its premiere. On July 14, 2011 the nominations for the 63rd Primetime Emmy Awards were announced, with Game of Thrones being nominated for 13 categories, including Outstanding Drama Series, Outstanding Casting for a Drama Series and Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series for Peter Dinklage, which he won. The series also won an Emmy for Outstanding Main Title Design the weekend before, at the Academy's non-televised technical Emmy awards presentation.

Hi i'm game of thrones ... i'm the product of a fanboy taking lord of the rings and mashing it up with machiavelli's the prince ... lame, completely unoriginal drivel.

@nephilim ... sweet name, many christians don't know about all the mythological figures in the bibles, the nephilim (sort of like the christian version of the titans) are some of my favorites!

does anyone know who the fat guy talking to theon greyjoy was? i've been thinking and trying to figure it out, but it's been a while since I read the book so I can't remember. it's definitely not balon, damphair or any other of the iron island people that he talks to when he first arrives at the iron islands. anyone know who?

okay maybe drivel was a little harsh ... but i watched every episode and kept waiting for something ... it just never came. love the dwarf and some of the historical allusions (i.e., atilla the hun marrying the royal woman, the various houses like the war of the roses in England, etc.) but come on, it was pretty unoriginal. they need to ratchet the fantasy way up a few notches otherwise its, well, boring. you have to admit, there is nothing really original about it.

@brewtownpsych I really don't see how this show was boring or unoriginal in the least. I've not read the books and I'm by no means a fan of the fantasy genre. I absolutely loved the show.

You must not appreciate over-arching plot lines with twists and good character development. I want to know what it is you find unoriginal about the show. I can barely name one thing outside of some fantasy staples that are even remotely unoriginal.

I was bored out of my skull with the pilot. What part of this are we supposed to like?

From Boromir beheading the sentry, the girl promised to the Klingon... Bah. :P

Well, the intro was good at least.

@BrewTown, You clearly haven't read the books. While it may borrow slightly from other works in terms of the characters. I am with you in that Sam Tarly is the same as Sam from the shire. However, the stories really become very unique in how the characters deal with the situations. Daeny is particular unique in her quest to get to her "home" and Jon being over the wall, as a steward. You have very strong opinions from someone who has only watched the show.

Hi I'm brewtownpsych, I'm a snit who wants to sound pompous. If I really knew anything I would have said the Nephilium were the product of men and angels and nothing like the Titans.

Game of Thrones is a great TV series.

Not original? Just about every story we watch isn't original. Pretty much every story can be traced back to something Shakespeare wrote, and his stories you can find traces of in even older stories.

This show rocks, though the "fantasy" aspect is dialed down from the books, I kind of like how it feels more historical than straight fantasy.

Though, the only thing I wish were different were the Direwolves, in the show they just are regular wolves. In the books they are described when older as big as Horses.

i get that logistically that'd be tough to do for the Show, but I'd love to see a Dire-wolf that big attacking. In the scene with Rob and Theon saving Bran, in the book the dire wolves come tearing through the forrest to help save the day.

You really are a nasty piece of work aren't you Bropous? You are the type of guy that snaps and shoots Kevin Spacey at the end of American Beauty.

johan, they STRONGLY hint that they have a relationship, since you read the books, remember how crushed Loros is about renlys death? Martins description of Loros is that he's fair like a woman.

I read the books before the show and I completely got that they had a love affair, thats why Loros was always around him, and everybody else in the book joked that Renly marriage was a sham and he probably didn't even consummate his marriage.

The only thing that the writers of the show did, was outright put a scene in the show with them together, so the didn't have to dance around it.

Also, if you read the books theres a bunch of out right lesbianism in there too.
