Well, looks like the only big win was Peter Dinklage as Tyrion Lannister for Supporting Actor in a Drama Series. Still think Michelle Fairley and Sean Bean at least deserved to be nominated. Looking to the future, it will be interesting to see who the show focuses on in Season 2, now that Sean Bean won't be leading the cast. Oh, and in case you missed it, here's Dinklage's acceptance speech from last night.

Michelle Fairley deserved an Emmy Nom for her portrayal of Catelyn Stark.

Sean Bean gave an Emmy worthy performance as Ned Stark.

Peter Dinklage deserved it, he and Sean Bean were the best on season 1.

Mad Men is so over rated now. That show gets progressively worse each season.

Peter Dinklage is the best!

If the show stays close to the second novel - "Clash of Kings" then Dinklage should be nominated for Leading actor next year. The second novel really puts Tyrion center stage and I'm sure that Peter is up for the challenge.

Tim Van Patten didn't win for directing Boardwalk Empire. Martin Scorcese won.

@ Rothwilder,

I agree. Mad Men is a great but last season, although there were a few strong episodes, was very weak - in comparison to the previous seasons. Game of Thrones deserved to take the award for Best Drama series. I'm glad that Peter Dinklage won an award; there would have been something very wrong if he didn't.

Game of Thrones didnt win simply because its a fantasy. You would have thought LOTR winning all those Oscars would have beaten this prejudice.

@Bigbywolf

Agreed. I guess I should stipulate that I do like the show, but it keeps going downhill.

I wonder how Tyrion's look will change as events from later books take hold?

@bropous Might want to put some spoilers as a tag up on your post. You are giving away things that don't happen till Book 3 in your post. Honestly I can't believe that Friday Night Lights beat Game of Thrones for Best Drama Writing. Mad Men is such an overrated show. It's gone downhill continuously and is only getting worse.

This was Game of Thrones first year and it took home two Emmys. Hopefully with Season 2 and Season 3 (of which Book 3 is my personal favorite and seems to be the favorite of pretty much all Song of Ice and Fire fans) we will see a lot more nominations as the Game of Thrones proves that you either live or you die.

The Emmys are notoriously miserable when it comes to anything fantastical or out of the real world. Over the years they have [frick]ed over BSG, True Blood, Lost etc..seems like GOT is just another casualty. Mad Men will keep winning as long as it keeps running.
