Selmy appeared last week speaking to King Robert but I had no idea who the character was supposed to be at the time. Anyway, as usual, seems like spot on casting.

Here is the metal inspired theme tune, set over the fantastic opening sequence from the show..

I love the opening credits for this show. The song is amazing. I like the original version of this. The cello is amazing.

No doubts!! That was superbishly awesome Ror, thanks for sharing that. This show is just great and I start the first book. Its great so far. Looking forward to Sunday night for sure, the previews look intense

I've not read all the first book yet but from the show, John Arryn was like a mentor to both Ned and Robert before the Rebellion. He was a Lord himself and he was Ned's brother-in-law by marriage. Robert has apparently been king for a at least I'll say seven years but perhaps longer, not sure. I'm sure someone else knows more than I. As for what the Mad King did, from the show you're lead to believe he burns Ned's father and brother alive inside the Iron Throne room.

@ USAgent, you're only partly right.

Jon Arryn was a friend to the Stark family, but was not related to them in any way. Also, at the start of the show Robert Baratheon has been king for about 14 years. As for Ned's father and older brother, you're right, they were killed by Aerys Targaryen in front of the royal court when they went to King's Landing to protest Lyanna's (Ned's sister) kidnapping by prince Rhaegar Targaryen, thus instigating Robert's Rebellion.

USAgent had Jon Arryn, and the death of Ned's relatives right. He was their mentor and like a father figure to them. He was one of the people who helped start the revolution when he refused to turn Ned and Robert over to Aerys Targaryen.

The rebellion was approx 17 years (15 in the books) before the start of the show, and as soon as Robert was king he named Arryn as his hand.

The Mad King had Eddard's father and brother executed by hanging one of them, I don't remember which, over an open fire with his armour still on, and straps the other into a rather macabre little machine that, whenever he moves to save the one being baked alive, slowly strangles him.

Jon Arryn was the previous Hand of the King. He was, incidentally, related to the Starks through a rather circuitous rout. He was married to Lysa Tully, the sister of Catelyn Stark, who is in turn married to Eddard Stark.

Is this show really amazing?

I still haven't got the chance but I'm thinking I'll get and see all 5 eps so far through the weekend then watch it every week.

Tis Lee, better than I even hoped it would be.

So yeah, Ned's bro and dad died in particularly gruesome ways..and Jaime still gets shit for killing the king that did it to em. Of course he also shoves 10 year olds out windows but nobodies perfect:)
