GAME OF THRONES: George R. R. Martin Confirms JON SNOW Spinoff Details And Reveals Working Title Is SNOW

Last week, news broke that HBO is working on a Game of Thrones sequel revolving around Kit Harington's Jon Snow. Since then, Emilia Clarke has confirmed that her former co-star is also playing an active role in developing the series, and creator George R. R. Martin has now chimed in to clarify exactly what's going on with the project.

Taking to his website, Not A Blog (via SFFGazette.com), the author confirmed "there is a Jon Snow show in development" and revealed that its current working title is Snow

That's a solid name for the series (assuming it sticks), and Martin would go on to reveal that Snow has been in development for as long as spinoffs Ten Thousand Ships, Sea Snake/Nine Voyages, and The Hedge Knight/Knight of the Seven Kingdoms. This means Harington has been working on this series for at least a couple of years.

"I was Kit Harrington who brought the idea to us," Martin explains. "I cannot tell you the names of the writers/showrunners, since that has not been cleared for release yet, but Kit brought them in too, his own team, and they are terrific."

He'd add that, "Kit's team have visited me here in Santa Fe and worked with me and my own team of brilliant, talented writer/consultants to hammer out the show." As for how far along Snow actually is, Martin noted, "All four of these successor shows are still in the script stage.  Outlines and treatments have been written and approved, scripts have been written, notes have been given, second and third drafts have been written. So far, that’s all."

We've already seen a handful of Game of Thrones spinoffs fail to become a reality, so it will be interesting to see which of these potential shows make it past the finish line. HBO will no doubt be keeping a close eye on how House of the Dragon performs later this summer as that will be a good way of gauging just how interested people are in this franchise after the main show's divisive final season.

It would be pretty surprising if Snow doesn't happen, so fingers crossed more details will be shared soon.

What they did to Jon Snow alone single-handedly put me off the show and removed any desire to ever re-visit it.

He was my favorite character.

The Tower of joy moment and the switching shot from the baby to Jon's face (along with the music) was my favorite scene from the show.

Doing what they did to him and putting Bran as a king instead is a monstrosity that completely destroyed the show for me.

I have no desire to ever re-visit the character, unless they find a way to bring him back from the Wall and make him king.

@kylo0607 -
It's like this post was written by me, amazing.

I also put Dany in the equation tho.
F*cking hell....

@kylo0607 - that's exactly why I want to revisit the character. He got norhing to do in the last few seasons except for standing around a bit.

With a show entirely focused on him, I'm sure he's gonna get a lot do. And hes back at the Night Watch, which I where he shined most. There's a lot they can still with the character

@kylo0607 - I was pretty sure the nightking battle would take months, he and Daenerys would die in heroic manners and their child would be the king/queen.

Instead we got that shitshow ending season.

@kylo0607 - I didn't even know there were books when the series came out. I loved it...but yeah....Jon should have become king. Bran should have been his hand. Hopefully the series corrects it. And i don't think dani is dead either since her dragon flew off with her. It was open ended to me.

I have never seen any of the Game of Thrones episodes and I have nothing to contribute here.

Thanks for reading.

@LSHF - if you ever want to, stop after season six. It had a great ending that tied up enough, but also was open enough for our imaginations to go wild about what was gonna happen.

Or watched a handful of episodes, like I did the second time. There was a headwriter or director who made an essential viewings list.

@bkmeijer1 - That sounds good. Thank you.

Another thing I was considering with shows that I don't want to watch the entire episodes, season after season (like "The Boys"), would be instead watch some of the "First Time Viewing _____" YouTube videos.

Some of them are edited very well, showing only the highlights in a way where the viewing doesn't get lost as to what is going on. (I've watched several of the ones that I've actually seen the shows/films) and some of them are done very well.

I thought I might try that soon with "The Boys" because I just don't have the time to watch every moment of all of them, but I am interested in what is going on with that show.

Thanks again.

@LSHF - I get what you're saying. With shows like The Wire or the Sopranos I can't really find the time either to watch them, even though I do wanna see what's all the buzz is about. Enough great edits out there indeed though.

It's even if I find new shows I don't want them to be too long. About 20 episodes is already the maximum for me. The list from the GoT writer (Bryan Cogman I think) was 21 episodes, so I might consider watching that before the Snow show.

@bkmeijer1 - Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. was what, 23?. The AoS show never lost its steam, but I got behind in that show (23 episodes per year is a LOT to catch up with for me) and I had to skip a season and read what happened on Wikipedia in time to watch the final episodes of the last season.

Which made me glad that the Netflix/Marvel shows were 13 per season and I'm also glad that the Disney+ shows are mostly 6 per season.

It's so much easier to get and stay caught up. That's become the priority now: getting and staying caught up.

Good luck on the GoT shows. I hope you get caught up in time for Snow and that you enjoy them.

@LSHF - I'm guessing Snow is a long way off, so got quite some time for that.

And I'm glad the Disney+ shows are so short as well. Been able to watch Moon Knight in two days, Obi-Wan in two days, and Boba Fett in three. And it still tells a story that is manageable to follow and enjoy.

Agreed.

I kinda look forward to this show. Snow's Night Watch adventures were my favourite part of the show, so an entire show returning to that does have my attention. Far better than him just standing around doing nothing.

Also, five successor shows? Can't imagine does are all developed as full shows. Or atleast I hope so. Can't be sustainable to produce or to keep up as a viewer if not atleast a few of them are limited series.

I’ll watch it. GOT was a great show. Last season had some disappointing elements to it but it was still worth watching.

If someone who doesn't know what this show is about tunes in and there is no snow anywhere to be seen, they might get confused.

The Long Night deserves a better adaptation with a global impact. Its like if the Thanos saga lasted a few hours after being hyped up for years. Jon Snow's heritage is a big part of the show but they did nothing with it other than to threaten Dany's rule.

They also did nothing about the Prince that Was Promised other than to have him unite the armies to fight, he didnt even get to square off against the Night King...
Jon didnt have to defeat the Night King but cmon man, yall hyped up a face-off only for Theon to fight the Night King? If anything Jon and Arya should've fought him together with Arya coming in clutch.

All I ask is an emotionally satisfying ending to Jon Snow that acts as an epilogue and takes into account Jon's lineage and destiny as a leader.
