GAME OF THRONES Inside The Episode: Season 4 Finale "The Children"

Was that the most eventful Game Of Thrones season finale yet? I'd say it was certainly the most shocking -- and for fans of the source novels too! After the jump go inside the episode with showrunners Dan Weiss and David Benioff. Obviously if you haven't watched yet, SPOILERS ahead.

Last night we said goodbye to Tywin Lannister (Charles Dance), Shae (Sibel Kekilli), and, most shockingly, Jojen Reed (Thomas Brodie-Sangster), who is still alive in the books. We also left Sandor “The Hound” Clegane (Rory McCann) for dead..but something tells me it won't be the last we see of him. Anyway, what did you guys think of "The Children"?

they didn't show Lady Stoneheart, they ruined Tyrion's escape by not having Jaime tell him the truth about Tysha, they had him kill Shae in self defense instead of cold blood (which is important in the books because there's a possibility she didn't even sleep with Tywin and Varys set the whole thing up by giving Tywin food poisoning to make him go to the toilet), oh and NO LADY STONEHEART WHAT THE [frick] THAT WAS THE ONE THING I WANTED TO SEE

No, instead we got this:

@BlkThunderGod - it`s very ambigious in the books. Later on, a priest says that he buried him, but he may have been speaking metaphorically. Also there`s this rather big guy around him, with his face covered, so...

@ jasonicus - the Mountain died but he got resurrected in a "Frankenstein`s monster" kind-of-way.

I loved the episode...After all being at the Wall last ep, nice to see all storylines again, with some crazy shit for each of them...Stannis arriving like a boss!

I was disappointed. I didn't think it was too spectacular. They could've tied up Bran, Jon and Danny's arcs up a bit more smoothly... I was expecting to see them again but instead the last 5 or so minutes were completely dedicated to Arya. Plus, we didn't even get to see Ramsey or Theon at all. Nitpicks I suppose, but only because they said it was the best finale they've done. I whole-heartedly disagree.

Anyhoo, I am extremely worried about Season 5, because Martin's lazy ass has still not finished Winds of Winter. It will not be long before the show catches up. I blame him in full. He allowed them to produce a show, then took on other projects and paused progress on his current novel. Even his editor is scared, since as of last year, Martin had only turned in 168 pages of his aspiring 1,500 page book. Tis' grim, this series' future is.

Adjacent to my first post, I believe that is why we did not see Lady Stoneheart. Because of the delay of Winds of Winter, Season 5 is going to be a slow season... They are going to drag out the ending storylines from A Storm of Swords and A Feast for Crows. Which also means, they will most likely further themselves from the books, possibly introducing characters into the show that were not in the books. Which is fine, it just pisses me off cause we should've had Winds of Winter being released later this year.

*Potential SPOILERS*

Aside from the utter lack of Stoneheart and Coldhands, the way Leaf and Bloodraven looked and some minor things, really, really good episode.

Brienne did very good. And f*ck Lena Headey teasing Lady Stoneheart. Maybe she got to "that part" in the books and that's why she uploaded those images.

YEAH! NO COLDHANDS EITHER! WTF!!!???

Also...Sansa got f*cked over so many times in GoT that the Hound would have merely gotten sloppy seconds mushy thirties.

I liked the episode. I thought when Stannis came to save the day, they should have had a scene where Stannis had the Wildings leader executed and left the Wall to head for the Northern territories. I don't think the Hound is dead. In the books, there is no specific mention of him being confirmed dead, but then again he had a bounty on his head, had an infection from the bite wound, fell off of a cliff and broke some bones... not to mention he is in the middle of nowhere.

@Charlies

I was almost expecting them to find Coldhands insteead so he could then guide them himself. I thought they would delay the Bloodraven thing and what better way to delay it whilst intriguing people and giving fans orgasms than to have Coldhands save them?

I thought the episode was excellent. And as far as the book deviations go most have been for the better... Brien vs the Hound and really getting into the red Viper and developing him are 2 examples. And I loved the way they handled Arya at the end. She made the hound beg for death and just walked off to let him suffer. I thought most of it was very well done.

First, I want to say that, the Brianne and the Hound fight is better than the Batman and Bane in the TDKR. Don't get me wrong I like Nolan's Batman.
I don't read the books..I just watch this show...and I will rate this episode B minus....nothing really climactic..for a season ender..it's just like an "ordinary" episode..three big character is dead is not a big deal in GOT...we got no Sansa/Little finger update...as well as Theon/Ramsay/Roose Bolton update...
Also, I like the scene with Jojen, Bran, Hodor against the ice skeletons..cool CGI...and still I have no idea what is Brans purpose...

It was a good move to cut Lady Stoneheart. She adds little of interest and takes away from an important death.

Coldhands has been getting the shaft on this show since the scuffle at Craster's Keep. They've jumbled a lot of story timelines up from the books so next season might yet be Stoneheart's introduction. RIP Jojen, I guess...

Seriously, I won't be watching next season. Prolly won't watch the show again until the books are finished. The potential for seeing spoilers for upcoming books is too great. As good as the series is, the books are so much better.

I liked the episode. I was expecting *spoiler* mama Stark to show up at the end. I think that would have been a better ending to a season. I did like the Hound vs Brienne fight, which was never in the books.

Jeez, I'm sick of all the book readers complaining about details being change in what actually is an amazing tv show. You read the books, we get it! I read that Brianne never faced the Hound in the book, so what? That fight was (frickin') awesome, and don't worry about GRRM not finishing the books before the show cathes up, Benioff already said that they know how the story has to continue
