One Mad Queen down... one to go?
In a truly stunning installment, everyone's worst fears were realized when Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke), the woman we've come to know and love over the past eight seasons, unfortunately followed in her late father's footsteps and went full Mad Queen as she burned the entirety of King's Landing to the ground.
While her rampage did result in the deaths of a number of major characters, including Cersei Lannister (Lena Headey), Jaime Lannister (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau), Sandor Clegane (Rory McCann), The Mountain (Hafþór Júlíus Björnsson), and Euron Greyjoy (Pilou Asbæk), it also eviscerated millions of innocent people and ultimately set up the Dragon Queen as the series' final big bad.
The new episode preview doesn't offer much in terms of plot points, but it does essentially confirm that Dany has indeed taken her place atop the Iron Throne. However, with Jon Snow (Kit Harington), Arya Stark (Maisie Williams), and Tyrion Lannister (Peter Dinklage) still standing, it remains to be seen whether she'll be the one ruling when the series comes to its close.
In Season 7, Daenerys Targaryen has finally set sail for Westeros with her armies, dragons and new Hand of the Queen, Tyrion Lannister. Jon Snow has been named King in the North after defeating Ramsay Bolton in the Battle of the Bastards and returning Winterfell to House Stark. In King's Landing, Cersei Lannister has seized the Iron Throne by incinerating the High Sparrow, his followers and her rivals in the Sept of Baelor. But as old alliances fracture and new ones emerge, an army of dead men marches on the Wall, threatening to end the game of thrones forever.
