Game Of Thrones' Kit Harrington Tapped For The Role Of King Arthur In Arthur And Lancelot

It seems WB have signed up Jon Snow himself to swing a sword once again in their take on the Arthurian Legend. Variety broke the story, details past the jump..

"You know nothing Jon Snow". Well he knows he will be playing one of the most famous heroes in fantasy literature. And thanks to the lads at Variety we do too. Apparently Kit Harrington, who impressed as Eddard Stark's bastard in HBO's Game Of Thrones is Warner Bros' choice to armor up as King Arthur in Arthur And Lancelot.

From Showblitz..

Joel Kinniman is already in place to play Lancelot with David Dobkin on board to write and direct. Kinniman and Harrington were said to be the early front-runners for both roles, and while Kinniman’s test was good enough to get an early offer, Harrington had to re-test, eventually beating out the likes of Sam Claflin and his GAME OF THRONES co-star Richard Maddon.

WB acquired the Script for the movie for $2 million dollars after a bidding war with several other studios. The story is said to focus on how the legend of the Knights of the Round Table began, and centers on Arthur and Lancelot's friendship and the creation of the concept of Democracy by Arthur. The movie is being fast-tracked by Warners, which has shelved two other similar projects also in development: Bryan Singer's remake of John Boorman's 1981 movie Excalibur; and Guy Ritchie's reinvention of the myth alongside Warren Ellis, also titled Excalibur.

Arthur And Lancelot is set for release March 15, 2013.

Me too, I'm sure he will be great. Better make this his last role of this type for while though if he wants to avoid typecasting.

Thats cool. Excalibur was good. But I believe the best King Arthur movie with out all of the SFX was with Clive Owen. I love the quote from that movie "I tell you now - all of you - were free from your first breath." That speaks to me in so many ways--POWERFULL STUFF!

I'm with @KNIGHT3000, i think he's much more suited to LANCELOT.

Really wish this role went to ARMIE HAMMER or LIAM HEMSWORTH.

Spock, I really didn't care for that. There were decent performances, a few nice set pieces etc but it basically just pissed all over the original legend and told it's own story completely. Plus, why take the magic out of it? In that movie Merlin was in about 2 scenes and was a Celtic tree man instead of a Wizard! I can totally accept a new take on something but your movie better be VERY good to pull it off, and that was not imo.

I actually liked the Clive Owen King Arthur...enough to buy the better directors unrated cut bluray. Excalibur is still the all time best version.

Damn! And i betted Kinnaman would be King Arthur and Harrington Lancelot!... Ouh well!

I can see what the are trying to do thou!
They want King Arthur look young and unexperienced so that it would make sense to have Merlin teaching him the ways of King. And make Lancelot the badass lone wolf who eventually becomes Arthur´s most trusted knight.

Now if they just get Gary Oldman as Merlin i seriously cant wait for this movie!:)

I agree with RorMachine :) Hollywood has pissed all over this genre and sucked the legend/magic out of the story. They need to stop making every single friggin thing dark, real, and gritty. The Clive Owen version sucked. Merlin was apart of some germanic tribe or some crap and it was stupid. We need an entertaining adventure. The Sword and the Stone was a good kids film and I think they could make an excellent film for adults and kids. Richard Harris in Camelot nailed King Arthur although not my favorite film.

ha, yeah our comments are ignorant. So you'd like to piss on them. LOL

Dude, I don';t give a shit how historically accurate the movie was, it wasn't very good. Like I said. I'm all for a different slant but if you don't back it up with a great end product then gtfo. Give me the sword in the stone any day.

Ouh and Excalibur looked cool! I just didnt like the guy who played Arthur!
Nicol Williamson as Merlin, Helen Mirren as Morgana and Gabriel Byrne as Uther Pendragon were the best characters in that film.

I too prefer him for Lancelot. I want to see Charlie Hunnam as Arthur. And let's get back to the Excalibur version of Arthur.
