After killing one
Game of Thrones prequel series, HBO has given life to another as the premium network has just announced that they've officially given a full series order of ten episodes to
House of the Dragon, which hails from writers George R.R. Martin and Ryan Condal and will be based on Martin's
Fire & Blood book.
The now-official prequel series will be set 300 years before the events of
Game of Thrones, and will tell the epic story of the monumental rise and tragic fall of the legendary House Targaryen.
In addition to writing the series, Condal will also serve as co-showrunner alongside acclaimed Thrones director and 2x Primetime Emmy Award-winner Miguel Sapochnik, who helmed six episodes ("The Gift," "Hardhome," "Battle of the Bastards," "The Winds of Winter," "The Long Night" and "The Bells." ) throughout the course of the series' eight-season run.
Sapochnik will also helm the pilot, which is expected to go into production much sooner than we thought, and has also been tapped to direct additional episodes down the line.
Emilia Clarke previously played the fan-favorite Daenerys Targaryen on
Game of Thrones and earned four Primetime Emmy Award nominations for her work on the series.
As for the rest of those
Game of Thrones prequel series, it appears that only two are still in any sort of active development, but no word yet on what those could be centered around.
