Hey Malcopunch here and i want to ask you guys a question, Has Game of Thrones set our expectations too high for other TV Shows?

I started to think about this question when i was going to school when my twin sister told me that she saw the Flash TV Trailer. I asked her thoughts on it and let's just say she had a negative opinion on it saying " the CGI looks really bad" "the acting was chessy as hell" etc. I told to wait till the pilot comes out before she judges it since it is just a trailer. The reason i orginally thought she did not like the Flash TV Show is that she very cynical. Even on Game of Thrones she thought Season 4 and especially the last episode wasn't that good because it did not accurately bring the finale to the bring screen complaining about Tyrion and Twin and the lack of a certain charcter but then i started to think about the show itself. Game of Thrones for a TV Series has a really good budget with top class actors and great effects for the most part. So it started to get me thinking..has Game of Thrones set our expectations too high. Many Teenagers i have talked to won't even watch other Amercian shows besides Game of Thrones and Breaking Bad. Both shows are really good but my guess is that they do not want to watch a show that does have almost movie quality acting. Arrow while i do love does not have the best acting in the world and i will freely admit that..same with the Flash Trailer. Its sad that many pepole will not give shows such as Flash and Arrow a chance because it doesn't have amazing CGI affects and movie quality acting like in those shows. In conculsion i do think shows such as Game of Thrones and Breaking Bad have set our expectations high for other tv shows such as Arrow and Flash. While it is okay to have our expectations high we as nerds cannot have the same expectations for other tv shows. These are just my thoughts you may disagree or agree with them. I would like to know you guys opinions on this subject in the comments below..

It's not just the acting and sfx. It's the writing. GoT, Breaking Bad, True Detective, The Wire, all had world class writers. Arrow and probably Flash don't. Not even close. Or they do and the CW pushes them into a more teen-beat direction so how would you know.

So yeah, I would say that GoT has ruined most tv shows for me. I can't hardly watch anything on network anymore. A 22-episode season is just too watered down to get good substance, and network shows are forced to cater to the lowest common denominator.

I think HBO in general is a league of their own. The quality is so good that it isn't fair to compare them to regular TV. That goes for all pay-cable shows. I watch Homeland and Masters of Sex. I hear Penny Dreadful and Spartacus are great. True Detective, Dexter- all this stuff can just do more than standard fare. Premium cable is quality.

Not to say that there can't be quality on basic cable. AMC and FX offer great material too. And of course the major networks (ABC, FOX, NBC, CBS) all have things viewers and critics enjoy alike. Award-winning shows.

But you notice I'm going down a list. Descending a ladder...It brings me to the CW. I'm sorry, but their programming just isn't on par with what I (and many) would call quality television. Shallow stuff for teens is great, but it doesn't appeal much outside of that audience. Fanboys love Arrow, but I think it's because its not like they have a lot of options. Audiences have ADMITTED they had to lower their expectations for Agents of SHIELD to even enjoy it. THAT is the crux of the matter right there, and it explains everything. Personally, I think your sister is right. Both The Flash looks like more of the same, which imo, is't good enough (trust me, the trailer is all I need to tell that I will like it or not. It will be in the EXACT same style as Arrow).

Which is why I'm looking forward to seeing what these other networks will do (Dardevil on Netflix, Constantine on NBC, Gotham on FOX, Powers on PSN, etc) with bigger production values, stronger actors, and hopefully, better writing.

Tastes have improved, we have been spoiled, and I say that's a good thing. My suggestion, no offense, would be to raise your standards.

and @ McGee:
That's just awful (and amazing)
