At the recent filming of MTV Spoilers featuring the Watchmen, director Zack Snyder confirmed that the extended director's cut version of the film will be released in theaters sometime in July.

"The director's cut is three hours and 10 minutes and comes out in July," Snyder revealed to the audience. When describing this original edit of the movie, Snyder described it as "considerably more violent than this ... and sexier."

Snyder also talked about the extended DVD which will be released in the fall. Dubbing it the "Crazy Ultimate Freaky Edition" Snyder said it will contain the 'Tales of the Black Freighter', Hollis Mason's death, extended dialogue scenes from the newsstand, as well as additional scenes of Dr. Manhattan's time on Mars.

lol no that is not the longest movie in history. Off the top of my head 'Gone with the Wind' is 3 hours and 58 minutes and 'Reds' is 3 hours 14 minutes.

look for Napoleon made in 1927, that is 313 minutes long just making it over 5 hours(and to add to the length of it, it was originally intented to be projected on three different screens side by side one tinted red, one white and one blue so it would look like the french flag, basically making it three reels of film each 313 minutes long), and look for Mathrjoschka (2006)that is a movie that runs 95 hours long, although I think that is just absurd.

Ror, are you complaining about the movie? mwahahahaha

No noob, just asking a question! im pretty sure thats either a mistake or a misprint because in one of the clips we clearly see the thug raise his arm for the killing stroke on Mr Mason.

I think the killing of Hollis will be extended in the release in July. It will be in the theatrical release as sort of a side note, but won't be shown in it's full glory until the extended version.

Even though it's one of the most poignant part of the series, it isn't getting much screentime with the release. Which, IMO, is kind of BS, but as long as it was filmed is cool because when I purchase the 3.5 hour super duper extended version including Black Freight and UNder the Hood, it will be all good.

@Rorschach

The thing about Mason is straight from Snyder's mouth my friend. Haven't you ever seen a clip or preview that wasn't in a movie? I have dozens of times.

@Ionparallax

I believe that the Crazy Ultimate Freaky Edition might clock in at about 3:45 - 3:50. I know Snyder has said that with the Black Freighter interwoven it's at 3:40 but I don't know if that includes the extra Dr. Manhattan, newsstand, and Hollis death scenes.

jesus I thought LOTR movies were the longest but Gone With the Wind??? I couldn't sit for 4 hours watching romance...but yeah LOTR is usually 3 hours+ movie time...well worth all that sitting time

Same with Watchmen. It'll be worth it. But why isn't Mason's death in the actual original cut? Kinda sucks cuz they should show Nite Owl getting pissed off about that. I loved that part btw!

Yeah i have i guess...its rare enough though, especially such a pivotal scene. If its not in the theatrecal release then that is quite silly..i mean it would take what? 2 mins of screen time to show and hinges on Nite Owls rampage as a result of finding out his friend is dead..ok noob, now its a complaint!

mwahahahaah, you are turning to the dark side.

or maybe you'll start crying because the movie doesn't have the one scene you feel important? at least they didn't change him to M.A.S.O.N or something like that.

Yeah but see i dont feel the squid is half as important. This is a main characters death they are taking out! The squid was just a means to an end..or the end i should say. What happens still happens they just changed how it happens. If they had decided to kill Mason with a sword instead of his trophy id have been fine with that!

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! Mason's death is pivotal to the plot progression of the story and Dan's character development. It is perfect for a movie, it is one of the most heart wrenching parts of the story. THATS IT!!! Noob I'm joining the DARK SIDE, AND I WANT A COOKIE, but not almond.
HAWK out.

cookies gallore for anyone joining the dark side, and ror... killing him with his trophy is quite ironic, if it was with a sword I feel it looses the point. As for me... I'm still hopeful of the outcome even with no Mason and no squid in it (although even less and less)

In fairness im sure ion is right, they will at least mention his death and Dan will hear about it..they just wont show it

"jesus I thought LOTR movies were the longest but Gone With the Wind??? I couldn't sit for 4 hours watching romance..."

Oh come on! Gone with the Wind freakin' rules! Rhett Butler was the original Han Solo! :D

It wouldn't surprise me if Mason's death is more implied, as in, they show the gang going to attack him, but don't actually show the attack.

Probably gotta keep the Hollywood censors happy.

But since the "Ultimate Edition" (or whatever) will apparently be more violent, they show the attack, the beating, and the killing stroke.

*Wishful thinking*

Well by all accounts the movie is ULTRA violent so i dont think that would be left out for cencorship reasons..i mean the child being fed to dogs is in there!
