Watchmen REALLY better than TDK....?

I Don't Think So!

Saw it last night and for the first 15 minutes, I was a believer! Definitely one of the best openings I've seen in a movie. The Comedian getting killed, clips from the 40's with the Minutemen all the way to the late 70's. Very well done. But after that...the flow of the movie felt rushed, I'm sure this was to be expected, but the power that's presented in the book didn't translate all that well into the movie.

Now the acting was great, save for one "Goode guy", every actor/actress played their part to a T. But the directing...sure Snyder followed the book, for the most part, but it felt like he jumped ship several times. Now Snyder, who changed some things so non fans would love this movie, did keep some scenes from the comic that only real fans or folks who have read the book would understand. But he didn't really clarify it for the majority.

And then there is the "ending"....eh. You know the squid isn't in it, yet you try to convince yourself, "it's gonna be alright." And it's the same one we all dreaded and feared that would come true. I don't know why Snyder picked that for his ending. Yes I do. He 'wanted' to please Hollywood and it's minions.

Now I really enjoyed the majority of comic book movies that have come out over the years. Watchmen does have it's place, yet it's not as high as it could have been (I'll give it a second chance when the extended DVD comes out. And it shouldn't be unrated, because I don't know what else you can add to this movie to make it so.), so it's a bit of a disappointment. Since Watchmen is one of the best graphic novels of all time, the movie deserved nothing short of being same. But it failed.

But even after all that...it was still a good movie. But only a good movie.

This movie sucked. The only good actor was Rorschach. Night owl might as well have been bruce cambell since they got an actor who looked just like him. This film was boring, poorly done and visually unimpressive. My friend sitting next to me fell asleep. This was a huge, but not surprising let down. Over-hyped is hardly the term. The so called rape scene didn't happen and the ending was pathetic. Nothing in the movie was new or controversal. The only joke in the movie is the movie it self. It was as bad as they made Nixon look.

Don't know which version you saw Corin, but the rape scene was in there only he didn't actually go in, if you catch my drift. For the rest I totally agree with you. Saw the movie last night. "Visually unimpressive" are just the right words. Although I did like Bubastis's overal look :D. Rorschach was great. Never gonna forget it. And I even thought Night Owl did a great acting job even though he looks like Chevy Chase. Overal it was a movie that didn't speak to the people that hadn't read the graphic novel so they could just as easialy have put in the Squid. Disappointing but true.
Actually the highlight of the movie was that Silk Spector II told Doc Manhatten: "That sucking on it was just like sucking on a battery" :p. You can give your own interpretation to that ;).

Actually the new ending made more sense than the squid. The squid was a completely random element and the movie ending interwove an already existing element of the story as well as providing more justification for Manhattan's decision of what to do after all was said and done. I really did miss that final exchange between Veidt and Manhattan, even if they did reference it.

There was nothing "random" about the squid if you had followed the book very closely.

I never understand people saying that, of course the squid was random! Just because they hinted at something going down with the psychics and the island, genetic engineering etc..are you saying that while reading the book for the first time you thought "mmm, i wonder when the giant psychic squid will turn up and wipe out New York?"..no of course you didnt. It had its place in the comic but it would have completely offset the tone of the movie..which was great by the way. I can only surmise that anyone that found it boring either didnt understand it or didnt want to
