AGATHA ALL ALONG Creative Team Tease Show's Place In The Wider MCU: "There Are Ramifications..."

Agatha All Along writer/director Jac Schaeffer and producer Mary Livanos have teased the show's place in the wider MCU, suggesting that, while it is largely standalone, it will still impact other stories.

We last saw Agatha Harkness in WandaVision and, with Teen (widely believed to be Billy Maximoff) set to release her from the Scarlet Witch's spell, we expect Agatha All Along to pick up where that show left off.

Talking to IGN about how the Disney+ series fits into the wider MCU, Head Writer Jac Schaeffer confirmed it takes place primarily in its own corner of this shared world with a focus on Westview's importance to these magical goings-on.

"With WandaVision and Agatha All Along, they are both in their own little universe, and to me it's tied to Westview," the showrunner explained. "I'm a Buffy fan. The idea of a town being sort of like a vortex of supernatural energy is pretty cool. In that, we wanted them to have their own contained stories."

"And, in regards to this new series, Agatha is an outlier, right? She's totally an outsider. So I don't see her as being this joiner of the MCU. The storylines obviously intersect, but she's over here doing her own thing."

"Sure, it’s all part of the same kind of universe, so there are touchstones and illusions and that kind of thing, but Agatha is territorial and this is her show," Schaeffer continued. "So, it's really about Agatha Harkness and the people that she encounters."

Despite that, Agatha All Along executive producer Mary Livanos was quick to promise MCU fans that there are plenty of connections to reward longtime fans of the franchise (while we don't necessarily expect Wanda Maximoff to appear, her fate will surely have to be addressed in some way).

"I would say, first and foremost, that Agatha All Along is an incredible story in and of itself," Livanos told the site. "It's all about Agatha and we get to learn more about her and I think folks will really love her journey. But what I can also say is that there are ramifications for the larger MCU."

"However, we also introduced an entirely new slate of coven members who are brand new to the MCU. If you don't know much about Marvel, you can drop in and enjoy this completely original story. But if you're a fan of WandaVision and the MCU, I will say there is a ton paid off in this series."

In other words, Marvel Studios wants viewers to know that, while they won't need an encyclopedic knowledge of the wider MCU to enjoy the show, Agatha All Along is going to expand the supernatural side of this world and likely set the stage for future stories. We'd imagine Vision and whatever comes next for Wanda (and her children) will be among them.

Agatha All Along premieres on September 18 at 6pm PT/9pm ET, with the first two episodes, exclusively on Disney+.

Sounds good to me!!.

I’m sure some will have issues with it seemingly being mostly standalone but then some of those same people would turn around and complain about having to do homework to watch something so there’s no making them happy..sigh.

Anyway , show looks fun to me so I’m looking forward to seeing the supernatural corner of the MCU expanding!!.

Schaeffer has been one of the best gets in the MCU recently. Really love the way she envisions this corner of the MCU. Pumped for Agatha and whatever she cooks.

@WakandanQueen -
This case reminds me of Mystique / Jennifer Lawrence in FOX's X-Men, the actress who played the character was liked by the producers or they wanted to boost her career and they put the character in all the scenes as one of the main ones, when in the comics she was not so much and thus they angered the audience.

In MARVEL Comics there are infinite characters that deserve a series more than Agatha, we go from Silver Surfer, Namor, Hercules, Valkyrie, Ka-zar, Emma Frost, Gambit, Adam Warlock, Clea, Ghost rider, Starfox, Nova, Inhumans, ROM, Starjammers, Micronauts, Longshot, ... to name a few.

@lvcl - Erm, they already did Inhumans, Nova IS getting a series just taken longer to work out the kinks since it was first rumoured during phase 3, and Marvel don't own the rights to do a Micronauts show (it's complicated). They were going to do a Ghost Rider series as a spinoff from AoS (and has another version has had solo films obviously) but ditched it when switching from Marvel TV to D+ MCU and for obvious reasons couldn't have done any mutants or Silver Surfer until very recently...

...who deserce a series more however is a pointless and subjective debate, ultimately the shows that should be made are any where they have a good story to tell that doesn't run counter to the wider MCU.

As to which characters should headline them outside of a handfull that are likely to mainly get solo films rather than shows anyway it is kinda moot for the GA who haven't a clue who most the ones you or anyone else lists that hasn't already had their own film/show (us nerds are a very small % of the audience and even amongst us who we know of and don't will differ greatly).

If this show turns out to be good I don't see the issue regardless if considered C list or lower, it would deserve to exist if so more than a BAD Inhumans series, lol.

Yes, there are a ton of characters that should have gotten shows that have not and many shows that I consider a monumental waste of time. The thing is that Hahn was a breakout in WandaVision and they capitalized on that popularity. Not only that but they are actively building out the magic corner of the MCU. Virutally none of the characters you mentioned have been introduced to the MCU at this point so, yea, not so much.

That Inhumans was a horror show, and not in a good way.

@Goldboink - Such high hopes for that but sadly...

...as I say I'd rather have a half decent show set in the MCU with a completely original or lesser known character than be let down like I was with Inhumans. If it isn't to my taste I'll skip it just like I didn't read every comic, just those that caught my attention or for characters I grew to like in the crossover/teamup runs.

Agreed. When i was reading comics regularly I never bought every title and had my favorites, which I'm partial to as an old person. That said they kicked ass with Guardians and I enjoyed Moon Knight but hated Falcon and Winter Soldier and couldn't finish Ms Marvel. Watch what you like and don't watch what's not for you.

The only thing that would’ve gotten me even the slightest bit interested in this show would have been if they incorporated or even teased Dooms mom. All they would have to do is mention her making a deal with Mephisto, or even better yet show it in a flash back. Don’t mention her name but simply have the story be told by an older witch to a group of younger witches,as a warning to not make a deal with Mephisto

Then make a post credit scene at the end of the series with a young boy looking through an old chest or box that is filled with items from his deceased mother. Show him going through it and finding a spell book and other magic items. Then have his father yell out the boys name off screen calling him for dinner or something. Then the kid panics and shoots up as he hears the father enter the room and yell “Victor!”

But nooooo… instead we’re getting singing witches and RDJ playing Doom in a fuggin variant retro universe with a female silver surfer.

@BruceWayng - So, to be clear, you've made up a show that doesn't exist, and you're mad at a show that no one's seen yet for not being that show?

@clintthahamster - No I mentioned a scene I would like to see in this shitshow of a series. It would be nice if Marvel actually expanded the universe and included characters fans want to actually see.

@BruceWayng - Still mad a show that no one's seen, though.
