Last night's episode of Agent Carter certainly left quite a stir with the finale, when relatively new character Dottie Underwood (Bridget Regan) brutally murdered the villain Mr. Mink. Since the airing, plenty of fan speculation has come underway regarding how the character may be a progenitor to Scarlett Johansson's Natasha Romanoff, better known as the Black Widow. Today, IGN sat down with showrunners Tara Butters and Michele Fazekas to discuss the episode.

When asked if Dottie has a relation to Black Widow and the infamous Red Room, Fazekas immediately answered in the affirmative, saying "That's correct! She is a product of the Black Widow Program." However, when pressed as to whether she is representing fan-favourite villain Yelena Belova, they shut down speculation: "No. She’s Dottie for now. And the fact is, the great and exciting thing for us is we’re showing the precursor to the Black Widow Program, as you will see in the upcoming episode, 105 . . . . Basically Dottie is the product of a Russian spy program which could end up being the Black Widow program." So while Dottie is NOT Yelena Belova, we will see more of a proto-version of the Black Widow program during later episodes of the show. To see more of the interview, check out the source link. What do you think of Agent Carter so far?

Episode Five of Agent Carter, dubbed "The Iron Ceiling", is scheduled to air on February 3rd.

People keep predicting that she is Yelena Bolova but I don't think that at all. I get why people think that (with Marvel doing Inhumans and everything) but she didn't exist in this time period in the comics and didn't become Widow until after Scarlet Johannson's character.

Personally, I think she's either Claire Voyant (the Golden Age version of Black Widow) or Voyant's predecessor who will die and be replaced by Voyant.

I also believe the Anton Vanko in the show is actually the father of the Anton Vanko from the beginning of Iron Man 2 because if this were the Anton Vanko from Iron Man 2, his appearance in the show causes a continuity error and (from what we've seen so far) Marvel pays close attention to their continuity.

I also think that the Black Widow program is connected to Leviathan in the show, Anton Vanko (Senior?) is working for Leviathan and is partially responsible for leaking Howard Stark's technology and may or may not become a TV low budget version of Crimson Dynamo (like in the original comics) or a proto-Whiplash (like in most recent comics), and finally, I think this show will lead into the Cold War.
