Madame Masque Is The AGENT CARTER Season 2 Villain

Agent Carter showrunners have revealed that Iron Man villainess Madame Masque will be Peggy Carter's season 2 nemesis. Read on for details on how the show plans to reinvent Masque for 1940s Hollywood. Will the show connect to Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.'s Inhumans storyline?

Sometime's she's an Iron Man villain. At other times, she's Iron Man's lover.  However, in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Madame Masque will have existed long before Robert Downey Jr.'s Tony Stark is even born.  So unless, the MCU opts to chyogenically freeze another character for time period transference (see the Winter Soldier and Captain America) then it appears that we probably will never see Madame Masque on the big screen.  Still, it's exciting news to see that Agent Carter season 2 was able to secure such a well-known Marvel villain.

Here's what Agent Carter showrunners Tara Butters and Chris Dingess told /Film.  They're obviously changing Madame Masque's look and backstory to fit the 1940s setting of Agent Carter season 2.  " I think we’ve changed the look of her a bit obviously. We’ve made her an actress, which is very Hedy Lamar. She was a ‘40s siren actress who was also a scientific genius, so that’s part of what we’re mining with this character."  They also confirmed that the role has already been cast, although they're keeping details under wraps.  And what does a female villain mean for Agent Carter? Could this be the start of a rivalry that lasts decades, say up to Carter's cameo in Ant-Man? "For me it is, because I feel like that is something that… as much as there are not enough female heroes just on television, I feel like having a female villain is just as equally powerful", said Tara.  Dingess added, " I also think because she’s a female villain, her story informs Peggy’s story in a unique way and vice versa."

In the comics, Madame Masque is Whitney Frost, daughter of Count Nefaria, head of the Maggia.  Trained by her father, Frost eventually replaces him as head of the "Big M" and her criminal inclinations frequently bring her into conflict with Tony Stark's Iron Man as the Maggia frequently targets one Stark Industries invention after another.

Agent Carter season 2 will premiere in 2016.

An actress who is also a scientific genius... and beautiful... and deadly... Basically, she can do absolutely anything until the very second we need our hero to triumph.

Cool, But I was hoping she would be paired with The Hood as the villain in a Doctor Strange movie if not the first one.

They should have used her dad, the Count, and they would have still been able to use her in the modern times.

Great news ! Madame Masque is awesome.

What's really strange about this is that except for the evil part (I hope) her description really does sound exactly like the late 30's 40's actress Hedy Lamar, or if you are Mel Brooks (Hedley). I think she helped to develop the radar guided bombsite or something along those lines, I could be off on this, during WWII

A villain that should be in an Iron Man film. Shame.

After reading Matt Fraction's Hawkeye run, I can't lie, I wish we'd have a Hawkeye series or movie with Madame Masque in it instead.

I thought this was an AOS villain at first and got really excited. Still dope for Carter, though.

I'd rather her show up in Agent Carter than have Iron Man get another movie tbh. Antman and Hulk deserve sequels more than anyone else.

Lol, I just knew there would be fanboys whining about this, whining about how she should only be used in movies against Iron Man. Lmao..........

@Marrvelpsycho79 there can be more than one iteration of a character calm down

Guys... there isn't going to be anymore Iron Man films (and even if there was it wouldn't be Tony Stark/RDJ) so I can see why they chose to put her in something else.

I have a feeling they may at some point pull a 'Reverse Jarvis' and make some incarnation of her in the modern world. They're probably even using her to tie her into future things for the modern MCU. Crossing fingers.

Sounds friggin awesome. The 1st season was such a pleasant surprise. My biggest hope though, is that the OG Black Widow returns.

It's dope that she is the villain. I'm excited.

I believe there will be a modern day Madame Masque at some point. The producers were able to give us the first Black Widow in the first season. They could find a way to twist this Madame Masque as a previous incarnation of the character. Marvel will most likely retire Iron Man for awhile after Robert Downey Jr. is done, will there be a need of her character as a villain in the MCU anytime soon?

It definitely looks good for Marvel Television that Marvel Studios has passed this character over to them. It could play well for Agents of SHIELD in the future since they've already connected Agent Carter to that series.

Glad we get to see her but yeah she is so great I wanted to see her on the big screen not on Agent Carter. Yay nonetheless I suppose though. The ever-growing Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Oh man, I really need a live adaptation of some Kate Bishop/Madame Masque antics.

This sounds amazing. Badass shadowy noir. Madam Masque fits so well with a noir aesthetic

I think Robin Tunney would make a great Madame Masque.

I can already guess how this plays out. 50% of all Madame Masque stories end with some heroic female impersonating her and foiling her plans.

@Nomis

OH....So [X-MEN] changes some of the character history and origins and it's a crime against humanity but when [GOTHAM] does it then it's okay!

We're all hypocrites. We look away at certain changes, and condemn others. I think it all depends on personal feelings towards the characters.

I really like Agent Carter misses every item of most people's Comic Book TV show checklist, but still manages to get reviewed well. That shows good characters and good writing.

Asia Argento for Madam Masque! She's Italian, gorgeous, and has played a bad ass before (xXx).

they aren't going to do Iron Man 4 y'all, calm yo tits.

They will do trilogies for each franchise. No more Iron Man, Captain America, or Thor movies post Infinity War.

It means they can keep the actors around for cameos (see RDJ in Spidey) or use the mantles to pass on to new characters (Sebastian Stan is signed for more movies then most other MCU actors, and is the logical choice to take over for Captain America).
