DAREDEVIL: BORN AGAIN Set Photos Confirm Marvel Studios Will Retell The Kingpin's Origin Story

More photos from the set of Daredevil: Born Again have found their way online, this time suggesting we're going to get a new take on Wilson Fisk's childhood as Marvel Studios looks to retell his origin.

Marvel Television and Netflix's Daredevil gave Wilson Fisk an origin story, exploring the villain's traumatic childhood and shedding some light on how that turned him into the man he'd become.

Despite some fantastic work from Vincent D'Onofrio, his Kingpin was sometimes a little too soft, but Hawkeye made it clear the MCU's Variant is definitely the violent, powerhouse baddie from the comics. Now, the latest photos from the set of Daredevil: Born Again appear to confirm we're getting a new take on Fisk's childhood courtesy of Marvel Studios.

As you can see below, a young Wilson has been photographed on set alongside some neighbourhood bullies. While we don't have any context beyond that, these scenes are clearly set in the 1970s, and the MCU clearly looks set to put its own spin on Fisk's formative years.

Interestingly, props from the 90s have been spotted elsewhere as part of the show's production in the Big Apple, a hint we'll also revisit Matt Murdock's early years.

With 18 episodes to tell this story, Marvel Studios should have plenty of time to flesh out its leads and establish the Man Without Fear's place in the MCU. While not confirmed, it's thought Charlie Cox will reprise the role in Spider-Man 4.

The series is still expected to premiere on Disney+ in 2024, though we've heard rumblings that the streamer plans to split the season into three six-episode blocks.

Take a closer look at these new Daredevil: Born Again set photos in the Tweets below.

@CyberNigerian - honestly I've been getting back into anime recently.

Seven deadly sins is a good amount of fun.

@CyberNigerian - I never see much in the way of media or promotions for it, but started watching For All Mankind a while back - set in an alternative earth where Russia were first to put a man on the moon, following the story through the 70s 80s & 90s. It's fantastic.

@CyberNigerian - watching Power… it’s Aite. Let’s see… I really quit watching shows tho. What I do now since Netflix doesn’t work at my job, kinda like me, I watch stuff on Tubi. Train to Busan, 12 Angry Men, Brawl in Cell Block 99, The Night Eats The World. Réquiem For A Dream, it’s been pretty fun man.

F shows.

@CyberNigerian -

I finished Mare of Easttown with Kate Winslet the other day and loved it.

Watching Under The Banner of Heaven, another murder mystery, starring Andrew Garfield and it is also amazing so far.

Recommend both

If you haven't seen it, Travelers on Netflix, one of my favourite shows of all time.

@Origame - I just recently started rewatching through DBZ. Never saw Super, so I'm gonna give that a go afterwards.

Haven't watched this show in 10 years. Insanely nostalgic.

Tulsa King with Stallone is good
Star Trek Picard season 3 is surprisingly good so far

@SheepishOne - just saying super has been very hit or miss with me.

First 2 arcs are just longer worse versions of the 2 dbz movies, battle of gods and resurrection of f. So you can just binge those 2 movies and go straight to like episode 28 of super.

Universe 6 is a lot of fun and creative, but probably too goofy, and is pretty pointless outside of set ups for a later arc.

Future trunks arc has a lot of cool things going for it, but also a lot of a$$ pulls and an ending that is basically just "rocks fall, everyone dies" (not exactly that but you'll see.

The tournament of power is crazy ambitious, with a moment that rivals the first time goku went super saiyan.

Broly movie is a perfect reminder of everything you love about the franchise if you love z.

Superhero is visually great but the story is meh.

And that's it for purely anime content there.

Also I've been rewatching yu yu Hakusho. That full series is on YouTube for free.

@CyberNigerian - If you're into comedies, I highly recommend Broad City (Hulu), What we do in the shadows (FX/Hulu), and Los Espookys (HBO Max).

Kurama is my favorite character.

@Origame - we might need to revisit our dynamic. CBMs divide us but anime might be our salvation.

I just recently bought the whole series on Blu-ray , and Kurama is my [frick]ing guy, and then hiei
Origame
Origame - 3/21/2023, 9:45 AM
@ShimmyShimmyYA - ...maybe there's hope.

And yeah. Kurama is awesome. Hiei was too edgy for a lot of the series but it really saved him when they introduced his sister and started getting into his backstory.

No surprise there. Felt Hawkeye's Kingpin was already a different version from the Netflix show, so makes sense they're continuining that here.

Also, think it's smart to make this show different from the Netflix show. We know damn well there are variants that look exactly like MCU versions of the character, so it's not out of the blue this is different from Netflix.
Unites
Unites - 3/21/2023, 7:24 AM
@bkmeijer1 - Making this not a continuation of the Netflix show is already a reason for me to not watch this. I want Karen, I want Foggy. I don't need redo's, I don't need variants... I want Daredevil Season 4.

I really don't get why Marvel Studios feels the need to reinvent the wheel when it comes to a generally beloved show like Daredevil.

I don't even want to compare the quality of the Daredevil series to the Disney+ content we got so far.

ShimmyShimmyYA
ShimmyShimmyYA - 3/21/2023, 7:33 AM
@Unites - because that show doesn’t fit and that version of Matt has pretty much reached his end of development what else are the supposed to do?

Nightwing1015
Nightwing1015 - 3/21/2023, 7:43 AM
@ShimmyShimmyYA - Characters don't have to develop to have a great show. Look at BTAS. It can be about the stories and development of other characters.

In what way does Netflix not fit anyway? Like, sure there are some continuity issues but nothing that couldn't be ignored/ironed out
Unites
Unites - 3/21/2023, 7:47 AM
@Nightwing1015 - Amen.

On top of that, there is pretty big gap between the end of DD S3 and the present day in the MCU which they don't have to fill in.

They could start 'fresh' - in the sense that all the characters naturally are at another point in their lives 'cause X years have passed.
ShimmyShimmyYA
ShimmyShimmyYA - 3/21/2023, 7:54 AM
@Nightwing1015 - it’s the continuity . Stick is dead, Elektra dead, Ben is dead, bullseye is paralyzed. Not to mention shit like the [frick]ing dragon under nyc that caused a giant collapse that never gets mentioned.

Pretty sure Disney would like to have the daredevil supporting cast available to them
ShimmyShimmyYA
ShimmyShimmyYA - 3/21/2023, 7:55 AM
@bkmeijer1 - apparently that’s not possible and only reason is to continue the Netflix stuff. It’s not like these people are actors who just got hired for a job or anything
Nightwing1015
Nightwing1015 - 3/21/2023, 7:57 AM
@ShimmyShimmyYA - Does stick being dead matter? We got those stories. Elektra is not actually confirmed as dead. Matt survived that collapse and she could have too.

Ben is just a journalist that could be replaced with any other character. Bullseye got surgery in the last scene of season 3 implying his return - don't u remember?
ShimmyShimmyYA
ShimmyShimmyYA - 3/21/2023, 8:02 AM
@Nightwing1015 - it matters for the fact they would like to have those people available without having to backtrack an explanation from a series they weren’t a part of

feige group had 0 to do with shows until Disney +, which is why he said D+ was the first time MCU would have tv shows and movies integrated aka he didn’t care about anything he didn’t produce from Marvel Tv
HOTSHOT
HOTSHOT - 3/21/2023, 8:06 AM

@Unites - Just wanted to add that Foggy and Karen (as well as their actors) could still show up in a second season or even a Daredevil movie since I doubt they'll keep him relegated to the small screen.
FireandBlood
FireandBlood - 3/21/2023, 8:37 AM
@ShimmyShimmyYA - Exactly. As if people want that ‘Black Sky’ Elektra garbage canon. People forget S2 of Daredevil wasn’t all that, and Season 2.5, otherwise known as The Defenders, was straight garbage. They have an opportunity to take the best from that series (Cox, D’onofrio) and do better, because despite what fans would have you believe, that was not a perfect show, and there’s a lot of room for improvement.
mountainman
mountainman - 3/21/2023, 8:51 AM
@PlusUltra - Yeah for how much I loved that show, it had some major flaws - The Hand, Elektra, Foggy being annoying in the later seasons. I’m in the camp that is fine with it being variants as long as the quality of this version is good. In fact, if the MCU show is bad, it doesn’t taint the Netflix show since it’s not connected.
DCfan84
DCfan84 - 3/21/2023, 9:12 AM
@Nightwing1015 - I loved BTAS! For some reason though, I also miss the old 2000's Beware the Batman too! It was divisive cartoon, but for some reason, I liked it!
