DAREDEVIL: BORN AGAIN Star Charlie Cox Hopes Disney+ Series Will Feature More Visual Effects

Fresh off his cameo role in She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, Charlie Cox has revealed that he hopes Daredevil: Born Again will utilise more visual effects to take his Man Without Fear to the next level...

Despite making some questionable creative decisions over the course of its three seasons on Netflix, Daredevil was embraced by fans. A big part of that was down to what Charlie Cox brought to the table as the Man Without Fear, of course, though we got to see a different side of Matt Murdock in She-Hulk: Attorney at Law

It was clear that Marvel Studios has increased the hero's power levels, and visual effects that Marvel Television may not have had access to helped effectively portray his skills.

Talking to GQ, Cox shared his hopes for the hero in Disney+'s Daredevil: Born Again and revealed that he'd like CGI to help depict the hero's abilities in bigger ways.

"I guess what I would say is: hopefully, on the Disney+ show, Born Again, we will be able to use - and I hope that we do it sparingly, I believe it should be used sparingly - but we’ll hopefully be able to use a tiny bit more CGI in the action sequences," the actor said. "Just to emphasize his gymnastic abilities that have been basically impossible to do."

"It really should be sparingly. I don’t believe there should be complete action sequences that are almost all computer-generated. Most of it should be stunt-coordinated and done by a stunt performer and myself or the other actors in a similar fashion to what we did before."

"We can bookend it with these little moments. With the batons particularly, we could never really do anything in our show where Daredevil ricochets a baton off a wall and takes someone out because you can’t physically do that," Cox continued. "It’s not safe and not possible...just these little moments would elevate scenes and be something that makes the show even more recognizable to the comics."

We'd say the Daredevil: Born Again star has the right idea here, and the MCU can now take this character to the next level. His last TV show did what it could, but it's easy to forget that even the very grounded protector of Hell's Kitchen has some pretty flashy superpowers we've yet to see on screen.

Very little has been revealed about the show, though we know it will pit 'ol Hornhead against Vincent D'Onofrio's Kingpin and run for a total of 18 episodes. With that in mind, it's clear Marvel Studios has ambitious plans for Matt moving forward.

Daredevil: Born Again is set to arrive on Disney+ in 2024.

Big agree on this. It was cool to get to see him go a little bigger ,action wise, in She-Hulk.

@suitekid - Him swinging across the city alongside Spider-man, throwing the batons with incredile precision... DD can do some crazy stuff in the comics.

Nice.

Agree. We basically got a few seconds of him actually fighting in she hulk. The rest was filled with cgi or cut short.

@Origame - my one nitpick but it’s probably not their wheel house anyway. Wish they let him fight in a one take too much cutting for that hallway scene

@ShimmyShimmyYA - neither is court room scenes, but that didn't stop them from making a law show.

CGI enhanced parkour / city crossing. Show his abilities more. Potentially CGI enhanced villains.

Charlie definitely has an ownership of sorts of the character. They should make him a producer like Hiddelston was on Loki.

@GhostDog - until he makes a choice “they” don’t like and then it’ll be Charlie doesn’t know shit about daredevil lol

I hope the effects they have are a step up but the more gritty practical elements of Daredevil are a lot of what makes him compelling. He feels like a real person taking out and dishing out a beating.

More, but sparingly. Charlie does know what's up.

Loved how acrobatic he was on She-Hulk. Makes sense to play up his powers in the MCU.

@ModHaterSLADE - personally thought he looked pretty 2002 Spider-Man-esq. kind of rubbery and without weight. I enjoyed his more practical stuff in She-Hulk more.

Daredevil was spot on in She-Hulk. He was the best thing about that entire series.

They captured him the way we all wanted to see him and his costume, even with the yellow looks SO much better on him than the one from the Netflix show.

Just tell great stories. We want heroes to be heroes and villains to be villains.

Phase Bore was an experimental, directionless mess. They need to right the ship going forward.

Charlie Cox really gets the character. This is one of the few MCU actors whom I believe when he says he's really read the comics comprehensively and taken ownership of teh character as it is rather than trying to "retool" it.

Long as they’re sparing on chopping fight scenes together through tens of shots, and keep it like it was on the OG series, i’ll be happy

Loved the acrobatic moves he had on the show, very comic book accurate. His Matt Murdock was a welcome sight as well. A bit too lighthearted maybe but Charlie is so charismatic in the role that it works. Hopefully the ugly yellow costume is quickly retired on the show. It looked grotesque in the comics and does so in live action as well.

Just like Charlie says, use it sparingly. Some of the most basic flips that Charlie has done countless times in the Netflix series were CGI in She-Hulk for no reason. They do the same thing with Tom Holland's Spidey stunts.

And there are other ways to show off Matt's superhuman abilities without relying 100% on CGI. If there's one thing Daredevil 2003 did right, it's that.

Too bad Kevin has a hard on for overworking vfx artists and unnecessary cgi. God forbid they BUILD SOMETHING IN REAL LIFE

@bobevanz - The principle problem Marvel has, that is also a big reason why they are so successful, is that they can and do make changes up to the last minute. The downsides to this are so numerous and being really obvious lately, but the upside is, well, Marvel can also make good changes and storytelling beats.

It'd be near impossible to tell Kevin Feige, "Get rid of a way to make your stories better," but it's true! Having to stick with your decision means you have to make sure before you do anything else that this is the costume or story decision you're going with and that's scary. But on the other hand, "We can fix it later"-itis at Marvel has gotten so bad that it's super obvious to even the casual observer that this was finished days before its premiere.

I'm just catching up on she-hulk and that DD episode was SO GOOD. Pitch perfect Daredevil, it was like a comic book in motion. More of that please.

If the episode length is 30-35 minutes long, then I would prefer 9 one hour episodes instead of 18.

Thirty minutes is just too short. I don't know about anyone else, but I prefer 50 minutes an episode, or two episodes a week.

@Timerider84 - I prefer the 45-50 minutes episodes more as well.

And I hope they go with two episodes a week. I know we have ten months between The Marvel and Captain America to fill, but four full months of that just Daredevil is still a bit too spread out in my opinion.

It was great to see Daredevil do flips, so I wouldn't mind it if this means getting more flips. But only in instances where practical doesn't work like Coz suggests.

I’ve been saying this since the moment it was announced that DD was heading to the MCU. The Netflix shows failed to give DD his classic, hyper acrobatic abilities. We never got a cool comic book accurate shot of his swinging from the rooftops with his billy club line. Or leaping of a building and springing from a flag pole. Beating up thugs in a narrow hallway is fine…but DD is WAY more than that.

Nothing wrong with using CGI if it looks good. The CGI Daredevil in She-Hulk looked like a shitty video game.
