DAREDEVIL: BORN AGAIN Will Reportedly Be Split In Two With Multiple Story Arcs; Aiming For TV-MA Rating

A new rumour claims to reveal more about Marvel Studios' plans for Daredevil: Born Again, including how those eighteen episodes will be structured. Find more details on that, and the planned rating, here!

While Disney CEO Bob Iger has made it known that he plans to decrease the number of Marvel Studios TV shows on Disney+, the 18-episode Daredevil: Born Again is still on the way.

Production has been halted as a result of the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes, meaning it's no longer clear whether we'll see the Man Without Fear on the streaming service next year. However, depending on how much has been shot, we can likely expect at least half the season to drop as planned.

According to scooper Daniel Richtman, it's always been the plan for Daredevil: Born Again to arrive in two parts. This isn't the first time we've heard that there would be a gap between episodes 9 and 10, though it's now said the series will be broken down into smaller arcs similar to Andor

Apparently, each of those will be made up of between 2 and 3 episodes, suggesting there will be plenty of time for characters like The Punisher and various members of Matt Murdock's formidable rogues gallery to shine.

It's also said Daredevil: Born Again will be every bit as dark and mature as Netflix's Daredevil, with the show reportedly targeting a TV-MA rating (in the U.S., Disney+ is slowly starting to add mature content and is expected to eventually merge with Hulu).

The cast of the series includes Charlie Cox as Matt Murdock/Daredevil, Vincent D'Onofrio as Wilson Fisk/Kingpin, Jon Bernthal as Frank Castle/The Punisher, and Sandrine Holt as Vanessa Fisk. Michael Gandolfini, Margarita Levieva, Nikki M. James, Michael Gaston, Arty Froushan, and Clark Johnson have all been cast in undisclosed roles.

Michael Cuesta is directing the first episode of Daredevil: Born Again, while Clark Johnson, Jeffrey Nachmanoff, and David Boyd are among those also set to lend their directing talents to the Disney+ series.

It's unclear when we'll learn more about the show, though with Hollywood coming to a halt, we're not banking on it being anytime soon, unfortunately. However, we'll be sure to keep you updated as more is revealed.

@GhostDog - One of the best comics ever. Love JRJR's art there.

@Fogs - Romita's DD work sticks with me the most. More than Maleev who I think is normally the artist whose work is seen as the quintessential Daredevil illustration. I do think Checchetto's current work stands shoulder to shoulder with Romita Jr and Maleev. Rivera is amazing too.

@GhostDog - Mazuchelli with Born Again and Lee Weeks with Last Rites/ Dark Nights is up there for me too.

@DTor91 - Mazuchelli, almost forgot. I feel awful lol. Honestly he may be neck and neck with Romita for me as having the most atmospheric and memorable DD work. His work with shadows is so damn good.

Pressure is on like no other show. It is going to be compared to its amazing predecessor that left an INDELLABLE MARK on comic book adaptations. At the very least it has to de a damn good show; regardless of the rating even. An Andor model almost seems too good to be true. We will see.

@GhostDog @pitbull76 - with their current tv track record, you shouldn't be expecting a show on the level of Marvel Netflix. At most its just going to be an average disappointment or forgettable show like all the D+ shows so far. Secret Invasion is a snorefest and rumors of the Echo show that leads into DD being so bad that after several reshoots Feige just decided to drop every episode on Day 1 so audiences will forget about it before new years isn't a good sign at all.

I hope Bob Iger just cancels every TV Show and Special and just goes back to forcing Marvel to make films only.

@mastakilla39 - Respect your opinion but I'll take the wait and see approach.

@mastakilla39 - I would argue WandaVision and Loki shouldn't be lumped in with the other snoozefests. These two were genuinely good tv.

I think Secret Invasion is the first purely BORING show they've done. Other than that, its mostly be a few average efforts that showed potential for more but disappointed as it continued (TFAWS, Ms Marvel, Moon Knight) with some fun escapes (Hawkeye, What If) and She Hulk....lol. The Echo show always felt like it was some sort of mandate. That character is pretty thin in the comics so a lot has to be done to make her interesting enough to carry a show.

At worst DD is either boring or average with hints of potential and at best its WandaVision or Loki. And even then, I think having Cox and D'Onfrio guarantees some electric performances at the least which will elevate even a boring project. We'll see. DD is my favorite hero so I am hoping for the best.

@mastakilla39 - this alternate universe where the Netflix marvel shows were beloved is hilarious. Daredevil wasn’t even good consistently all 3 seasons.

@pmackattack - acting like the Netflix marvel shows weren't is a crazy delusion. they were 1 of the most viewed and pirated shows of its time and had consistent high reviews. Only crap one with low views is iron fist. compared to the disney+ shows and rival dc its not even a contest in quality. if you thought marvel netflix is crap, then i guess we are in the same boat in thinking the disney+ ones are going to be even worst. having a higher budget, better costume, and mcu crossover possibility doesn't matter if the show is a piece of shit. just look at she-hulk.

I really enjoyed Andor’s 3 episode arc structure. It kept things moving, and if there was ever a slower episode, like episode 4 for example, the drag didn’t last too long. I’d like more shows to follow something line this vs just having the longer season-long story formula.

OT : Nolan leaves 80% of vfx crew out of credits for oppenheimer….

https://www.cartoonbrew.com/ideas-commentary/christopher-nolan-forgot-to-credit-more-than-80-of-vfx-artists-on-oppenheimer-230775.html

Would love to see an article about this, and wonder if this is really an accident, or perhaps was done intentionally after all the “no cg” marketing they did the last two weeks.

This storytelling structure is a good alternative if they don't want to focus everything in their long episodes order to one single plot line and it has worked for the best in the past for previous comic book shows like Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and The Flash S6 onward. But it also did wonders for non-comic book adaptations like Suits, Once Upon a Time, Teen Wolf, etc. So I can work with that approach, seems for the best in fact and would explain why they opted for such a long set of episodes.

I wasn't aware Andor was organized similarly, I really should check it out.
