DAREDEVIL: Charlie Cox On Why He Wants Jon Bernthal And Krysten Ritter Back As The Punisher And Jessica Jones

Daredevil star Charlie Cox has shared his thoughts on why he feels Jon Bernthal and Krysten Ritter should be given the chance to return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe as The Punisher and Jessica Jones.

The world remains desperate to know whether Charlie Cox will reprise the role of Daredevil in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. However, the actor has now admitted that there are two of his old colleagues he'd be keen to see brought back to the small (or big) screen.

Before we get to that, Cox once again commented on rumours surrounding his future as the Man Without Fear during a recent interview with Forbes

"I don't know what the politics are, I don’t know what goes on behind the scenes," Cox explained. "I don't know any of that stuff...I don't know what the rules are, the deal that Netflix made. Whatever I say it can be taken out of context and it could be a headline that could mean something, so I'm just a little careful with what I say now."

Given how much Cox has been asked about Daredevil in recent weeks while doing the rounds to promote Kin, his attitude is understandable. Despite that, he was quick to give the thumbs up to recent rumblings that Jon Bernthal is also being eyed for an MCU return as The Punisher.

"The only thing I'll say is I don't know who could do a better version of The Punisher than Jon Bernthal," he exclaimed. "And that character is beloved, people are crazy for Frank Castle. So if they're going to do it again, I hope they do it with him because I don't think it gets better than that."

"I feel the same way about Krysten Ritter," Cox added. "I know that Jessica Jones, the character isn't quite as well known as Frank Castle is, but what a performance. What a great show that was."

We have heard that Ritter could also return in She-Hulk, but none of the trades have weighed in with their own reports (meaning we only have so-called "scoopers" to rely on). It would be amazing to see this trio in the MCU, and these three - along with Vincent D'Onofrio's Wilson Fisk - remain high atop the wishlists of many fans for Marvel Television characters who deserve another chance.

With any luck, Marvel Studios' plans (or lack thereof) will become clearer towards the end of the year! Check out what Jon Bernthal recently told us about returning as The Punisher in the player below:

Punisher is s2 of DD? Hell yes, best incarnation of the character outside of the printed page.

Punisher in the Punisher solo series? No. Not ever again.

@Slotherin - There’s a list of movies to watch before you watch that one to be quite honest. Since it’s about to leave HBO Max, just go ahead and watch it, but here’s the list to the best of my ability:

All John Hughes films before Home Alone
Can’t Hardly Wait
She’s All That
Bring It On
Road Trip
American Pie
Cruel Intentions
Detroit Rock City
Varsity Blues
American Beauty
Never Been Kissed

The A-Team (show, a clip oughta do it)
Clarissa Explains it All (show, clip)

Janie’s Got a Gun (Aerosmith video)

Matter fact it helps to know a LOT of 80’s to early 2000’s music

Just cheated and google said Lucas, Rudy, Jawbreaker, Karate Kid, and Grease, I’m sure there’s more, and I got those references it’s just too many to think of… dude I’m 38 so I’m a product of that time. So research it or not, either way, enjoy!

@TheWalkingCuban - are those films you think would help to enjoy that one more? Like for the sake of pop culture references?

@Slotherin - correct. Otherwise lots of stuff will… go… they’ll go over your head *sigh* I hate saying that around here.

@Slotherin - wait a minute… that’s Idle Hands up there. Dude I thought we were talking about Not Another Teen Movie, which I posted a gif of, but in another thread… so forget everything I said and just watch Idle Hands, OR remember everything I said, and watch Not Another Teen Movie. The choice is yours!

I personally thought all the major actors were perfectly cast as leads with the exception of Iron Fist. The story-lines had a tendency to be hit and miss depending on the season, but casting wise, with that one exception, Netflix nailed the hell out of it. And I hope they all return to the MCU.

@Mugens - same, though I was personally fine with Jones himself.
I think the events of the seasons should remain intact, they just only need to reference some of it if ever for continuity sake.

You can choose only two characters from the Netflixverse...

Of course the only correct answer is Dd and Punisher. But Kingpin is also fine, but I'd be worried that the films would reduce him to an angry fat man, fallen under Spidey's jokes.

I like Krysten Ritter, but the character of Jessica Jones isn't that interesting to me. She has pretty basic powers, and there are other, much cooler investigators/detectives.

Poor Finn Jones, I was one of the few, who enjoyed his Danny.

Really want Jon Berthal to have his own action movie franchise, one of those actors who always seems to stand out in whatever he is in.

Watched Small Engine Repair, I didn't like the movie unfortunately, but he was good in it.

Gives a great performance in Sweet Virginia
