When Disney revealed plans to launch its own streaming service, Netflix quickly started cancelling its Marvel Television shows. Of course, that studio was soon absorbed into Marvel Studios, hence why we now have the likes of The Falcon and The Winter Soldier and Loki on Disney+.
Enough time has since passed that Marvel Studios is finally able to make use of characters from the series streamed on Netflix. That's why we saw Charlie Cox's Matt Murdock in Spider-Man: No Way Home and Vincent D'Onofrio's Kingpin in Hawkeye, and their respective Marvel Cinematic Universe debuts have led to a resurgence of interest in Daredevil.
It's been more than three years since the season 3 finale, and it landed in eighth place on Nielsen's SVOD Top 10 list for original programmes between December 20 - December 26.
This is an unprecedented result for a show that was cancelled years ago, but makes sense with fans either revisiting Daredevil or watching it for the first time after meeting these characters in the MCU. According to figures shared by Variety, Daredevil garnered a whopping 195 million minutes across its 39 episodes.
There doesn't appear to be any sort of increased interest in the other Netflix shows (at least not enough to crack the Top 10), though we'd be shocked if some fans haven't chosen to revisit the likes of The Defenders, The Punisher or, God forbid, Iron Fist.
Marvel Studios reportedly has big plans for the Man Without Fear moving forward. We've heard that Cox will appear in both She-Hulk and Echo, with Daredevil expected to eventually get his own series or movie. It's about time 'ol Hornhead receives the spotlight because there's a huge amount of potential with the sort of role he can play in this shared world.
