DAREDEVIL Will Not Return For A Fourth Season As Netflix Cancels The Marvel Drama Series

Bad news for Man Without Fear fans here. Despite season three of Marvel's Daredevil being hailed by many as the best yet, Matt Murdock's adventures have gone the way of Luke Cage and Iron Fist...

Most of us saw this coming after the cancellations of both Luke Cage and Iron Fist, but Netflix has now officially dashed hopes for a fourth season of Marvel's Daredevil.

The recent third season was hailed by many as not just the best Daredevil run, but the best that Marvel and Netflix have produced full-stop. Quality aside, it now seems clear that Marvel's days with the streaming giant are nearing an end. It's been confirmed that a second season of The Punisher and a third season of Jessica Jones are still on the way, but after that?

Here's the official statement from Netflix, which does mention that the "Daredevil character will live on in future projects for Marvel."

"Marvel’s Daredevil will not return for a fourth season on Netflix. We are tremendously proud of the show’s last and final season and although it’s painful for the fans, we feel it best to close this chapter on a high note. We’re thankful to showrunner Erik Oleson, the show’s writers, stellar crew and incredible cast including Charlie Cox as Daredevil himself, and we’re grateful to the fans who have supported the show over the years. While the series on Netflix has ended, the three existing seasons will remain on the service for years to come, while the Daredevil character will live on in future projects for Marvel."

THR's report reveals that the relationship between Marvel and Netflix became strained after increasing creative issues, most recently relating to the third season of Luke Cage, which the latter wanted to shorten down to 10 episodes from the usual 13. It's entirely possible that Marvel's parent company launching a streaming service of its own that will directly rival Netflix also played a factor, or course.

Is there hope for Daredevil to return on Disney+? It's hard to imagine the Mouse House being associated with such a violent show, but perhaps in some capacity.

@Menks123 - I too have hope, but I also hate to rain on your parade. That could mean anything, more comic series, original graphic novels, cartoon shows... your asshole.

All this says to me is that Netflix wanted this. They were gonna let go of Marvel no matter what. Iron Fist S2 still being shit and the supposed drama behind Luke Cage S3's development just helped their case internally.

@Kurne - meh, I didn’t watch Luke Cage, Jessica Jones, or Iron Fist season 2. I watched two episodes of JJ season 2 and I watch everything comic related with the exception of DCs garbage tv shows and AOS. DD season 3 was the worst. By the time the season started getting good I was 9 episodes in and bored to death. They ruined Kingpin who was such a great character in season 1 and his scenes with punisher. Whatever, the writers and terrible special FX screwed these shows.

Legion is how it’s done, use your weaknesses as a strength and make your sandbox contextualize what you can do

@thekabsin - season 1 was the weakest imo while season 3 started with a bang and ended with one.

If Feige/Disney doesn’t save Daredevil then I’m done with the MCU after Avengers 4

Seriously [frick] everything right now.

And if Feige/Disney thinks about rebooting Daredevil to add him in the MCU, all I’ll say to that is

@LEVITIKUZ - if Feige thinks he can automatically do better by recasting, IMO that'd be him being too far up his own ass.

@LEVITIKUZ - What are the chances all the cancelled marvel shows are renewed for the Disney streaming service?
