Jon Bernthal Talks Potential 'Punisher' Inspirations And Secrecy About The DAREDEVIL Role
Before weighing in on the Punisher teasers that he's been posting on social media, Jon Bernthal talks about previous movies about Frank Castle and how they may or may not have inspired his portrayal of the antihero. The Walking Dead actor also touches on Marvel's strictness.
"I pretty much can’t tell you anything at all, to be honest with you," he said, before expressing his appreciation for the Marvel role. "I can say it’s a responsibility that I take really seriously and I’m honored to be on Daredevil. I love the script. There’s great actors, great writers. And if I can just say that I’m grateful and honored to have this opportunity and I’m going to give it my best."
Jon Bernthal later revealed that he has seen two of the original Punisher movies, both Thomas Jane's in 2004 and Dolph Lungren's in 1989, but is there anything from them that he's bringing to Frank Castle? "Uuuuuuuuuh. I can’t say," he replied. "They’re so strict about this stuff, like what you can talk about and what you can’t. I know that sucks. But it’s just the way it is. That’s all I can really say about it." Despite not being able to discuss the Netflix series, Bernthal has been teasing fans with non-revealing images on social media; or so we thought. "I mean — uh — whether you think that has anything to do with the show or not, that’s up to you," he said of the two Twitter images that seemingly showed his Punisher's wall of weapons as well as a basketball jersey with the iconic skull logo. "That jersey wasn’t anything to do with the show. That was just a guy on the streets of New York that I took a picture of. That’s all that was." Fair enough! What do you think?
