If there's one major criticism we've heard about every single one of Marvel's TV shows on Netflix, it's that thirteen episodes are often a good three episodes too many. Regardless of whether we're talking about Daredevil or Luke Cage, filler episodes have dragged stories out far too long and led to lulls in each season which could be eliminated with a shorter episode count and more concise storytelling.

Well, it appears as if Netflix has learned from past mistakes with Iron Fist because the titles of each episode have been revealed and there's only ten of them! The show's Facebook page also confirmed that it will have a shorter run in a reply to a fan who pointed out there was only ten episodes rather than the normal thirteen. Whether or not this will now be the case for every Marvel show is unclear.

It does make a lot of sense with Iron Fist, though, as Marvel and Netflix will have been able to save millions of dollars by getting rid of those three hours and that's a smart move for a show which had such a poorly received first season. They had it backwards from the beginning. The individual shows should’ve been 8-10 episodes and the Defenders should’ve been 12.

@CaptainAmerica - I loved "The Defenders". I enjoyed watching them interract with each other and I like the way it wrapped up some story lines. Very satisfying. Rotten Tomatoes gives it at least 75% from the critics and the non-critics. I'm looking forward to watching it again when it finally arrives on Blu-ray (which will probably have to be ordered from Amazon UK or another import, as that is the only way many official Blu-ray releases of the Marvel Netflix shows can be purchased now).

I even have to order the more recent seasons of "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." from Amazon UK. Odd.

I'm very excited for Iron Fist season 2. From what I'm hearing around the place, it sounds like the fight choreography is going to be so much better than the first, and Dannys appearance in Luke Cage season 2 was fantastic! He was so much more enjoyable to watch, and it made me keen for more. H

Fewer episodes don't mean tighter episodes. What matters is the writing and production. Ten episodes can feel like twenty if they're poor. If they want to experiment with the episode order, that's fine, but it's not some magic bullet.

75% of the audience liked it, and that is a LOT more people than the critics who have serious issues enjoying movies and films (they are too critical, and that tends to make things less fun, and the show was made to enjoy, not critique).

Anyway, most of the audience liked it. F the critics. They get paid to criticize.

Boo. A shorter season doesn’t magically make the show better. But at least we are getting another season and it does indeed look awesome.

If your main character is the least interesting person on the show...I'd fix that problem first. Then I'd put him in the suit, so a person who actually knows kung-fu can do the fight scenes...considering that we're watching an Iron Fist show.

Good. I really liked Iron Fist, but I think all these Marvel shows need to be capped at 10 episodes. I've noticed that most of them start dragging. I think 10 is the perfect number. Now, if only CW would do the same with their shows. Cut the episode count in half because most episodes are filler and just drag on too long.

I think the episode count is fine, but the show runners should split the season into 2 distinct plots with an overarching theme.

All comics nowadays are written in 5-6 issue graphic novel sized stories and it works great. They should always be looking to the comics for different kinds of inspiration.

Good! I don't care too much about watching filler episodes, but I think the creative challenge to make a tighter story will help the overall viewing experience. Like when AOS benefited from shifting to a two-story-arc season instead of spreading one out over the whole thing

@THEDARKKNIGHT1939 - yeah I think this can only help them out. A lot of people here are misinformed and dont realize that.

The only shows that I feel can handle 13 episodes are Daredevil, Punisher, and season 2 of Luke Cage.

I don't believe Iron Fist getting a shorter 2nd season has anything to do with the quality of the 1st season. It has to do with Netflix getting its Marvel release schedule back on track. The Defenders mini-series threw all the other shows out of whack. Before Netflix throws Daredevil season 3 to audiences they needed Jessica Jones, Luke Cage & Iron Fist to get second seasons first. And since the next seasons of Daredevil & Iron Fist began production roughly the same time -Iron Fist was the logical choice to go shorter.

I don't believe Netflix is changing their stragedy of 13 episodes per Marvel series looking at how long the upcoming Daredevil & Punisher seasons have been in production.

@String - Agreed. But I doubt Iron Fist S2 having 10 episodes would be final. Some episode counts always get changed before some episodes even start filming. So I think Iron Fist S2 will have 13 episodes in the end just like Supernatural S14, Arrow S7, The Flash S5, Supergirl S4, Black Lightning S2 and Legends of Tomorrow S4 will have 23 and 19 episodes respectively once the CW finalises their plans.

I guess that's for the better. One of my problems with Luke Cage is that it is too slow and too long

I am happy with 10 episodes (if it was to try to correct some schedule or not). This might improve the storytelling pace allot.
I also felt that JJ season2, DD season 2 and Luke Cage Season 2 was dragging here and there, so a 10 episode season for others might work as well. Only DD season 1 and Punisher S1 are perfect pacing in my eyes. ;)
